    Firm complies with recycling mandate

British American Tobacco Nigeria has kicked off its post-consumer waste recycling initiative.

It is part of its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programme mandated by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).

It is aligned with its commitment to minimising the environmental impact of its business operations, in collaboration with the Facilitating Agency, the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA).

Building upon its existing commitment to environmental stewardship, BAT Nigeria already operates at 100 per cent zero waste to landfill within its factory premises, ensuring that all waste generated, is recycled.

This recycling initiative represents an upscale of the Company’s ongoing efforts, to further exemplify its dedication to a clean and green environment.

Managing Director of BAT Nigeria, Yarub Al-Bahrani, said: “By implementing this initiative, BAT Nigeria aims to foster a circular economy, reduce the ecological footprint of our products, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

“Our commitment extends beyond compliance, as we strive to proactively address the challenges associated with post-consumer waste and play a vital role in building a sustainable future.”

Executive Secretary, FBRA, Agharese Onaghise said the introduction of waste collection receptacles in designated consumer locations is a sustainable instrument for the Alliance to ensure post-consumer packaging waste is taken back by the producers for recycling

“This initiative is a great way to ensure that post-consumer wastes do not contribute to littering the environment and encourages proper disposal in an environmentally friendly manner.

“We look forward to making a tangible difference through the Recycling Initiative and creating a greener Nigeria for generations to come,” she said.

BAT Nigeria has empowered numerous off-takers who have successfully transformed wastes into valuable resources such as infills, manure, and plastics.

With the initiative, the company expects to achieve similar success even as it fulfils its Extended Producer Responsibilities in alignment with NESREA’s agenda to preserve Nigeria’s environment.

  • We’re open to collaboration with entertainment industries, Oghayore

We’re open to collaboration with entertainment industries, Oghayore

The Chairman Mayore Beauty, Silver Oghayore is optimistic that the firm’s launch into the Nigerian market would be highly welcomed by the Nigerian movie industry.

Oghayore noted that Nollywood and the music industry are involved in the use of cosmetics in movies and music videos.

He made this affirmation at a pre-launch media parley recently in Lagos.

He also noted that though both entertainment industries have become a force to reckon with globally, the make up/makeover aspects still need better products like Mayore to compliment its standard and also save cost of buying beauty products.

“It’s a great opportunity for us. We have a product that the market needs as much as we want to be in it. I’m willing to invest in my words today, I have an impression that when both industries test our products they won’t have a lot of choice but do rely on Mayore,” said Oghayore

“The quality of our products, the sustainability of our products and the natural nature of our products will convince them. We’ve seen movies where makeups are fading, you’re not going to have that kind of problem with Mayore products. You will be investing a lot less for superior quality products. So I think they will welcome us as long as we will welcome partnership and collaboration with them.”

The film features Theo Lawson, Timini Egbuson, Nancy Isime, Jude Orhorha, Victor Eriabie, Mercy Isoyip, Anthonia Okojie, Emeka Okoye, Kokoette Omoinyang, Ijeoma Richards, Joseph Momodu, Aaron Sunday, Moses Nwosu, Osasu Esemuede, Linda Igwe and Alloysius Onyejegbu among others.

The film, which is produced and directed by Osezuah Elimihe takes another perspective on rape.

Speaking on the film, Elimihe, said: “I love to do what I love to do and to give back to the society that has given so much to me as a child. Also, I want to give my fans and theatre goers something to enjoy at some point in the cinema span of the movie.

“We have heard stories of rape happen in the society and we have seen movies or documentaries done on rape but I thought that what if we look at every perspective of rape without having to take one side. What if we can look at rape with every perspective of fun, not that is fun but put a little bit of fun so that people can have enough to seat and watch the movie and get the message.”

A representative of Classic FM, Benjamin Okoh added his comment thus: “Rape is a sensitive issue in the society especially as it concerns women, though am not saying that men don’t get raped but we have more women that get raped. For us, we are bringing that again to the fore just to show that rape is still with us and we must deal with it.”
