    20-year old rescued from commiting suicide in Delta river

    A young lady Laura Okorodudu has been rescued from a suicide attempt in the boundary river between Delta and Edo States.

    Okorodudu, 20, reportedly jumped into the river from the Oghara-Benin Bridge, Monday.

    The reason for her action could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

    A Delta-bound motorist identified as Jay Cee saw her jumping into the river and raised an alarm.

    Some locals under the bridge alerted of the incident, were said to have quickly dived in and rescued her.

    She is reportedly recuperating at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.

    Delta Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development to The Nation.

    OAP-cum-comedian, Chinedu Emmanuel popularly aka Nedu has stated there really exist a great disparity in the amount paid to artistes for shows.

    He explained a couple of years ago, Wizkid and another artiste, whose name he intentionally withheld, were paid differing amounts for shows.

    According to him, while Big Wiz received $200,000 for just one show, the other artiste got only $80,000 for three shows.

    He also claimed the ‘Essence’ crooner vehemently refused to show up to perform for a gig because the organisers were offering lesser than his demand.

    The broadcaster stated these while they discussed issues, including ‘if the entertainment really pays like that or there’s more to it’ on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast with actor, Kunle Remi as their guest.

    “How much were they begging Wizkid with? Was it N32 million or twenty-something million.

    “They were begging Wizkid to come and perform with N32 million. Baba no gree. E say if dem no give am 40million, he no they come. We are talking about years ago o!

    “I went to Dubai, money that they paid one artiste, I will not mention his name. They paid him $80,000 to perform. They paid Wizkid I think $150,000 or $200,000.

    “That $80,000 was for three shows. Wizkid performed $200,000 for one show. Years ago lan so bayi o (we are talking about years ago o,” he said.

    Fire razes 15 shops in Enugu

    Not less than fifteen shops with goods worth millions have been razed at Agbani Road, in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

    The incident, our correspondent, gathered happened on Monday night.

    The affected shops were located at the popular Garriki Market, Enugu.

    Residents of the area said that a shopping plaza that housed electrical shops, hair saloons, phone accessories, Cafeteria and motor/motorcycle spare parts, were destroyed in the incident, which residents said, started from a refuse dump.

    It was further learnt that the entire building would have been completely razed but for the intervention of residents who raced to the area on time to help douse the raging inferno.

    He said: “I don’t know what actually caused the fire incident. I heard that someone set fire to a refuse in the gutter when they closed for business yesterday and the fire spread and caught the building that housed the shops.

    “We also learned that the fire was caused by a Suya seller who probably did not put out the fire from his oven well.

    “I live nearby. When I perceived the smell in the night around ten or eleven in the night, I thought it was my generator but when I came out to find out, I saw the shops in flame”.

    He also said that when the Fire Service personnel came, they could not put out the fire because they lacked enough water. “It was people that started bringing water from everywhere that were able to contain the fire from consuming the entire building,” he also said.

    When our correspondent arrived the scene of the incident, which was directly opposite Akwuke Junction, Agbani Road, sympathisers were busy trying to recover some goods from the wreckage while some others looked on aghast at the gory incident.

    Actor Kunle Remi has narrated his encounter with a gay celebrity before he sprung into the limelight.
    Popularly known for his ‘role’ as Saro in Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Aníkúlápó’, the movie star claimed he was told by this unidentified celebrity that he needed to be ‘disvirgined (officially deflower him as a homos3xual)’ to make it big in the entertainment industry.

    Remi made this known during an interview with Nedu with others on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast.

    He said: “Before I got into the industry, a friend in U.I. Then when I was in U.I, said there is one of his friends who is an entertainer, he can guide you into the entertainment industry.

    “I got there, this nigga starts to call out names, starts to talk. That why do I think they didn’t select me for the ‘Ultimate Search’. It’s because I’ve not paid my dues.

    “This guy sells the whole fruity shit to me in a big way. That I’m just there like…He paints this whole picture like if I don’t bend my ass over, you ain’t gonna make it bro. You know when person dey talk to you, I dey look as say, ‘My nyarsh?!’

    Giving more details about his experience, the actor added: “This guy comes downstairs with a candle and a jar of oil and tells me, I should….because he says I am virgin.

    “I should put the candle in the oil as a lubricant and make it go through. That after he’ll now come, take it. And from there, he’ll now connect me and I in my first month, I’ll be driving a Benz.”

    Sharing the interview excerpt on his Instagram page, Nedu wrote: “FRUITY (GAYbriel) MEN IN THE INDUSTRY.

    Reacting to the video, Mavin boss, Don Jazzy wished Remi could disclose the name of the gay celebrity now that he’s finally made it to stardom.

    Thousands of supporters on Tuesday converged at Metropolitan Square Ilorin to welcome Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) to the state for his campaign rally.
    The venue was filled to capacity as thousands of supporters trooped out with their brooms and banners to cheer their candidate and his running mate.

    The supporters were seen dancing, ahead of the arrival of Tinubu’s campaign team.

    Kwara Coordinator, Tinubu Presidential Campaign Ambassador in Diaspora, Mr Adedoyin Abdulateef, described the massive turn out as sign of acceptance and love for Tinubu.

    “As you can see, the venue is filled up even ahead of time. It is a sign of love and acceptance for our candidate.

    “People love our party and our candidates. We are optimistic of winning landslide come February,” he said.

    Akeredolu breaks silence on ill health

    Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said there was no cause for alarm over the state of his health, stating he was recuperating speedily.

    Akeredolu said he had some health challenges just like every other mortal but he had received treatment and recovering speedily.

    The Governor stated that he was not a superhuman and the immunity his office enjoyed does not extend to physical wellness or otherwise.

    He said his health issue was not an unusual one.

    The Ondo Governor insisted that he is discharging his official functions.

    He spoke in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.

    According to him: “Mr. Governor is not faced with any life-threatening illness that would have encouraged any alleged conspiracy in his administration.

    ‘’He, in fact, held Executive Council meeting with the Exco members till 4pm on Wednesday, 11th January, 2023 after the Security Council meeting where far-reaching decisions were taken on the escalated clashes in Ikare-Akoko.

    “On January 7, 2023 Governor Akeredolu led his brother Governors in the Southwest and other party bigwigs to receive the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure for the State Presidential Campaign Rally. On January 8, 2023, he was at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Jesus House Cathedral, Region 22 Headquarters, Oke-Ijebu, Akure for the Holy Service commemorating the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.

    Buhari reappoints seven ICPC Commissioners

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday urged the Senate to consider and approve the nomination of seven persons for reappointment as National Commissioners of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

    Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read on the floor by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during plenary in Abuja.

    The letter reads in part: “In accordance with Section 3(3) and (7) of the Corrupt Practices ans Other Related Offences Act 2000, I write to forward for confirmation by the Senate the under-listed names of seven (7) persons for reappointment as members of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).”

    The names of the National Commissioners of the ICPC forwarded to the Upper Chamber for screening and confirmation include Justice Adamu Bello (rtd) from Katsina State to represent North West; Hannatu Mohammed (Jigawa state) to represent North West; Mrs Olubukola Balogun (rtd) from Lagos State to represent South West and Dr. Grace Nkechiyere Chinda from
    Delta State to represent South-South.

    Others are Barr. Obiora Samuel Igwedibia from Anambra state to represent South East, Abdullahi Maikano from Niger state to represent North Central and Prince Dauda Yahaya Umar from Nasarawa state to represent North Central, in the commission.

    The Association of Lagos State Butchers at the weekend organised a special prayer session for the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

    Its chairman Bamidele Kazeem said he was elated to be a part of the process.

    “We want all our candidates to emerge winners in the 2023 forthcoming election and that is why we organised this prayer. He has been doing great in the campaign process better than other candidates, the only thing we need is God. That is why we have come to pray for them to emerge winners,” he said.

    He said Sanwo-Olu has improved Lagos, making it more habitable for residents and deserving of a second term.

    The Director General campaign organisation Lagos Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju stated the sole aim of the prayer was for all candidates of the party to emerge winners.

    He said: “Our works these past few days have been more than convincing and this is to show that we have chosen sellable candidates.”

    Olarenwaju stated the efforts of Tinubu as Lagos Governor of Lagos and how his template has been followed till now is why he is the man of the people, while also urging Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

    Daddy Freeze said his mother is too busy making money herself to expect anything from him.

    But one social media user identified as ‘lovelymoodflowerz’ faulted Daddy Freeze over his claim of not having given money ever to his mother simply because she’s doing well financially.

    She said: “This is not an excuse for not giving your mother money. You that look hardheaded and troublesome like this must have given her a financially hard time, abeg reciprocate her kindness.

    But the 46-year-old biracial addressing his ‘critic’ informed her that his mother has never needed his money and never will; and took her to the cleaners thereafter.

    “@lovelymoodflowerz my mother does not need my money. She has never and never will,” he stated.

    “You have to understand that poverty did not find permanent residence in every home. Some people are well off and don’t need your money.

    “You can’t understand that when money is your god and poverty is your sibling.”

    Popular media personality Ifedayo Olarinde aka Daddy Freeze has claimed giving one’s rich parents money is devoid of the attached blessing.

    He argued an individual can only be blessed for giving his/her parents money if they are poor or struggling.

    The ‘scripture teacher’ wrote: “There is no blessing in giving your rich parents money. The blessing is when you give to the poor.

    “If your parents are struggling then you are blessed when you give them money or assist them. ‘Honor your father & mother’ should not be monetised. Stop normalising entitlement behavior.”.
    A debate sparked off after comedian Emmanuel Ogonna Iwueke, aka Craze Clown or Papa Ade made an assertion about a mother who has failed in her duties.

    The content creator posited a mother has failed in her capacity if the son places her way above and treats her with more importance than his wife.
