An old photo of popular comedian Basketmouth and his colleague AY has surfaced online following the latter’s recent claim.

AY and Basketmouth’s unending beef has been a trending topic of discourse among the online community for weeks.

OAP Nedu recently got Basketmouth to address his long-standing beef with his ‘friend’ AY on the latest episode of the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast’.

While addressing the matter, Basketmouth said most of the things said by AY during his interview with Chude Jideonwo were lies.

On the issue of friendship that went sour, Okpocha emphatically mentioned AY and him were never friends, adding his claim was easily verifiable as no photo of them together existed on the internet.

“And it’s easy to tell. If you look around on social media, you’ll never find a picture of me and him. It’s not there. So, we were never friends,” he said during the podcast.

The photo has quickly viral on social media with users challenging the 44-year-old comic star’s claim.

Some expressed disappointment at the duo for beefing themselves for almost two decades while others found the situation laughable especially as AY claimed N30,000 was responsible for their feud.

  • Wike opposes moves by PDP, opposition to lead 10th NASS

Wike opposes moves by PDP, opposition to lead 10th NASS

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has kicked against moves by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties to seize the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.

Wike, in a media chat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, described the move as disruptive and said the Rivers federal lawmakers would not be part of it.

The Governor said despite not being a member of the All Progressives Congress(APC),  prominent members of the party interested in the offices of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives had reached out to him to indicate their interests.

He said: “People have come to see me. Wase (Hon. Ahmed Idris) has come, (senator Godswill Akpabio has come, Governor David Umahi has come, Uzor Kalu has called me on phone from US severally. And what am I saying? I’m not from their party, but first of all, democracy entails that the majority should have their way.

“I have heard and read people saying that the opposition parties are meeting to take over the leadership of the National Assembly. They won’t take it, it’s not possible. Even me, I will not support that.”

The Governor said the opposition parties should allow the APC leadership to choose the National Assembly heads because it was their entitlement.

He urged the minority in both chambers of the National Assembly to form a robust opposition to challenge the ruling party.

He said: “APC should still produce the leadership of the Assembly. Nobody should count Rivers State as part of the agenda to take over the leadership of the National Assembly. PDP can’t tell us that. Did they support us to win the election? They can’t tell us that.

“I will not support that kind of move where you want to take over the leadership of the National Assembly as an opposition, I won’t do that. There are so many politicians who are very selfish, I’m not one of them.”

He, however, advised the national leadership of the APC to consider the diversity and complexity of Nigeria in determining its preferred candidates for the offices of the Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Wike warned the national leadership of the PDP against the plot to make Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of the party in Kogi saying the former federal lawmaker lacked the capacity to win the state for the party.

He said the acting national chairman of the PDP, Umar Ililya Damagum recently called him and he expressed concern about attempt to manipulate the Kogi governorship primary in favour of senator Dino Melaye.

He said: “Changing delegates list to favour a particular person will further cause crisis in our party. Giving PDP governorship ticket in Kogi State to Dino Melaye is like planning to fail the election , because Dino doesn’t have what it takes to become governor of Kogi State.

“Tomorrow you begin to cry that you were rigged, but you’re already rigging yourself by changing the delegates list to favour someone who cannot win election.”

On the crisis in the PDP, Wike said the defeat of the party in the just-concluded general election was an indication that the suspended national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, lacked electoral value.

He said the G-5 governors’agitation for rotation of elective and appointive offices based on the principle fairness, equity and justice helped to expose Ayu’s lack of capacity.

“We have exposed Ayu that he has nothing to offer the party. And from the results, it has shown that he has nothing to offer to the party”, he said.

Commenting on the ongoing protest by the Rivers PDP at INEC office in Port Harcourt, he said it was aimed at preventing the  manipulation of the results of the  March 18, 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The governor said that since the law allowed  political parties to access electoral materials INEC used in conducting the elections, the PDP in the state as a precautionary measure, was insisting on every party having access to the documents at the same time.

Wike explained that PDP was simply being proactive to prevent a recurrence of  malicious altering of  the will expressed by Rivers people  at the polls in 2015 by the police and the APC.

He said: “There is nothing that is abnormal about what you think is going on in Port Harcourt. What PDP is doing is just to be vigilant. Vigilant in the sense that precisely after the 2015 election, inauguration, we had problems that  we never believed, and so we didn’t want a recurrence of that at the tribunal.

“It shocked us when we were in the tribunal that police tendered original result, not a copy of the original result, original result, and everybody was shocked. How would police tender original result and INEC had their own original certified true copy? INEC tendered their own, to our greatest surprise, the court accepted the police original result. It was surprising to us.”

Wike said the PDP was being extra vigilant accusing the Rivers APC of having penchant for compromising security agents and some officials of INEC.

He said: “Police brought original result sheet. It is unbelievable. The court accepted police own other than INEC. APC in Rivers State paid police.  What we expected is that police should have a copy of INEC result. And how did they get the original result sheet with the same serial number?”

Wike explained that the PDP did not trust INEC enough and would want to be present when APC would be granted access to all electoral materials  used in the conduct of the 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He said: “We are being extra-vigilant because we know what our opponents are capable of doing.  All the plans, all the results they have printed to tender before the tribunal, we have it

“ You are dealing with criminals and you must be extra vigilant. People can go to any length to procure documents and you will be shocked what you will  see in the tribunal.”

    END.

Newlywed dies after explosive-laden stereo gift from wife’s ex-lover

Indian newlywed groom, Hemendra Merawi and his brother, Rajkumar, died after plugging in a home theater stereo system the couple received as a gift from the wife’s ex-lover.

According to police, Merawi’s wife was romantically involved with Sarju Markam, a 33-year-old auto mechanic, prior to the couple’s marriage.

The aggrieved jilted lover became enraged after Merawi came into the picture and allegedly devised a plan to get revenge after Merawi and his wife announced their intentions to wed

Merawi and his wife’s families arranged the marriage, and Markam tried to convince his ex-lover not to go through with the wedding.

According to The Indian Express, a day before the wedding Markam called his ex-lover and stated, “You are getting married but you will never be happy”, then threatened Merawi afterward.

“They had an altercation. Hemendra also had a talk with his fiancé and the issue was settled,” explained police superintendent, Lal Umed Singh.

It was after these inflammatory calls that Markam made plans to create a bomb. He reportedly had prior knowledge of explosives from his previous job at a stone-crushing plant.

He hid the bomb inside a home stereo system and wrapped it up as a wedding gift for the new couple.

Police said Markam had a friend give him a ride to the venue, where he sneaked inside and hid the box beneath the piles of other gifts.

A few days after the wedding, Merawi and his brother plugged the stereo in and turned it on, triggering the explosion. The impact of the blast was strong enough to blow the roof off the house and collapsed the walls.

Unfortunately, Merawi was killed immediately, and his brother later died at the hospital. The blast also injured four others including a child.

However, Merawi’s wife was at her parent’s home at the time of the explosion.

  • Why we sealed Plateau Assembly complex – Police

Why we sealed Plateau Assembly complex – Police

Plateau Police Command has said it sealed the Assembly complex to guarantee security and the avoid break down of law and order.

CP Bartholomew Onyeka made this known in a press conference at the Police Command Jos on Tuesday.

Onyeka said the Assembly will remain sealed and warned contending members to stay off the complex until all the issues are resolved

According to him: “On the 3rd of April 2023, the Plateau State Police Command, through Social Media got the information that RT. Hon. Abok Ayuba, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly who was impeached on Thursday, October 28, 2021, has been got judgment in his favour to be reinstated as the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, a development which the Command was not duly served or officially informed as at the time.

“Therefore on the 4th April 2023, having gotten information that some mischievous persons who, based on intelligence mobilized sufficiently to ensure that they gain unrestricted access by whatever means necessary to the  House of Assembly Complex, I took that decision to ensure that the State House of Assembly is safe and that neither life nor property is lost.

“In view of the intelligence I got, an invitation was sent to the honourable members of the Plateau State House of Assembly which they honoured and came with their team of lawyers, there and then along with Members of my Management Team, they were advised not to do anything that will lead or be inimical to breakdown of law and order hence, the deployment of Police men to guard the premises as earlier stated because it will be a negligence and dereliction of duty on my part as the CP here on the Plateau if having gotten the above intelligence, I fail to do that for which I’m here to do, which is to protect

lives and properties and above all, to ensure the continued peace in Plateau State so that life and business can go on smoothly.

“Therefore, the deployment of Police personnel to the State House of Assembly wasn’t targeted against any group or persons, as it was merely preventive to maintain peace, protect lives and properties and to prevent the breakdown of law and order.”

The CP added: “After taking such measures, the Police who is also a party in the suit, filed notices and injunctions of appeal and stay of execution on the same 3rd of April 2023 which was equally served on the parties concerned. From that period, series of meeting have been held with the view toward ensuring that the Plateau State House of Assembly Complex is secured adequately.

“On our part as the Police we are only concerned to ensure that Plateau State remains peaceful for all to live in and the Commissioner of Police would not fold his arms and watch the honourable members of the Plateau State House of Assembly turn the premises of the Assembly in to a battle field or a boxing ring.

“My powers as the Commissioner of Police as enshrined in section 214 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 4 of the Police Acts 2020 is relevant.”

Baby with ‘hole-in-the-heart’ needs N17m for surgery

A distraught family is seeking the assistance of well-meaning Nigerians to save the life of their twelve-month-old baby, Jason Oluwatosin Adekunle.

Baby Jason who has been diagnosed with a hole in the heart needs N17 million to undergo corrective surgery abroad.

The mother of the baby, Mrs.Shola Adekunle said: “My baby was diagnosed with a hole in the heart with the primary effect being “pulmonary hypertension” at about five-month-old.

“The situation made him have difficulty breathing as he breathes very fast like one exercising and he sweats profusely, causing the heart to do more than what it meant to do. This has led to a very slow developmental process which makes him look like a five-month-old while he is 12 months old.

She continued: “He is yet to stand nor walk, cause 50% of food intake goes to waste as it is passing through the wrong channel, all effort on drugs is abortive as it is not curable, except he undergoes an open heart surgery for him to live a normal life. We have spent so much from hospital bills to expensive formulas in order to manage this condition.”

“Good people of Nigeria, we are pleading for financial support as this surgery requires about 17 million naira to take place in the UK. We will be truly grateful for your kind financial assistance.”, She pleaded.

Dr Davis Izekor of the Department of Paediatrics, UCTH, who signed the report: “The child needs open heart surgery to enable him to live a normal life. Our faculty does not offer this treatment, hence his referral to a centre where this can be done.”
