  • Student club where members help pay tuition fees

Student club where members help pay tuition fees

It was yet another thrilling moment as Caleb University Club 200 members hosted their end-of-the-year hangout session.

The event was set for the governing team to strategize on the way forward for the club.

The Club 200 initiative was founded in 2017 when a Caleb University undergraduate Oluwaseun Obadan, conceived the idea of raising funds from students to pay the tuition fees of underprivileged Nigerians looking at furthering into tertiary institutions.

So far, some of the beneficiaries have been able to achieve their dreams of learning within the four walls of the universities.

The club has also set up centres across some other private universities like Afe Babalola University (AFUAB).

Obadan said: “The idea came to me after a competition I had been part of with Unilever Plc. Being in that environment practically changed the way I thought.

“I went home that day and right on the floor, I began to think to myself about what I can give back to my community and the idea came up. I charged my close friends and they ran the vision with me.

“What we did when we began was to move around school from class to class asking students to donate at least N200 for the cause hence the name Club 200.

“The result was massive. From this, we were able to sponsor students to school. We had intentionally planned to sponsor people to expensive private universities, but we realised that we could just start from the public schools which were easier for us.

“We are looking into widening our horizon into different Private and even public universities across Nigeria. Our main goal has been to give.”

Among the volunteers present for the event were two beneficiaries of the club: Sunmi Misturah who attends Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Olarenwaju Nuirain who attends the Lagos state University studying Pharmacy.

Nuirain, an ND 2 student gave a detailed summary of how she found out about the club and benefited from the club.

She said: “I couldn’t get sponsors to further my education after secondary school but then I was lucky to have been noticed by club 200 and now I am in my final year in the polytechnic.

“I will definitely further my studies immediately after I am done and I am grateful to the club for giving me a head start in the right direction.”

On the importance of volunteering, guest speaker Omolara Lipide, a Ph.D. student at the University of Ibadan, spoke about the three set skills that are important to youths making an impact.

They are mentorship, ideation and lending one’s voice.

“It is very important to get the support of people who have gone ahead of you in this area to give you the pros and cons of what you are getting into.

“You also need to generate new ideas and concepts, know what you want to do and develop the necessary skills needed and finally, do not be quiet about the help you offer. Make it loud.”

Pointless asking your partner for ‘body count’-Joeboy

Contemporary R&B singing sensation Joeboy has said a person’s body count is inconsequential.

Body count is the total number of people killed in a particular event.

But as a slang in the context in which it was used by the singer, it refers to the number of individuals one has had s3xual relations with in the past.

In a tweet, the “Sip (Alcohol)” singer stated it was useless querying one’s lover about their body count.

He argued there was absolutely no one who would ever be able to ascertain the number spelt out by their partner which further irrationalises the question.

He said: “Asking for body count is pointless. If they tell you that it’s three, how do you know it’s three for real?”

Police hunt for man who smoked marijuana with infant

The police are looking for a man who was captured in a video smoking marijuana and putting it in an infant’s mouth.

Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a tweet, sought more information about the unidentified man from the public.

The viral video, which sparked outrage among the online community, captures a young man smoking a wrap of marijuana ‘weed’ and putting it in an infant’s mouth intermittently while the videographer, a female could be heard chuckling loudly in the background.

Social media users, expressing disgust and rage, urged each other to reshare the video in order for it to get to the appropriate authorities so the man and his accomplice could be found as soon as possible and punished accordingly.

One President Ikemba tweeted the clip, tagging the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)

He wrote: “When and how did we get here as a society? Egbon, @Princemoye1 please we need this guy prosecuted and the accomplice too. Haba! Remember when Iya Kudu(a neighbor) will spank us for misdemeanor as kids but now the society is empty. Cc: @ndlea_nigeria.”

Reacting to the development, Adejobi sought information about the fellow in the clip, vowing he’d be made to face the wrath of the law.

He also lamented the level of societal decadence in the country, urging mothers to be vigilant and not entrust their children to the wrong hands.

Responding to different reactions in a tweet thread, Adejobi wrote: “Every one of us can see this again. How did he get the baby? His son? Or niece or cousin?

“Whatever it is, mothers must learn from this, do not entrust ur baby to the wrong hands. Not everyone can babysit or take care of ur baby for u. We need more info about him.

“He must be caused to face the wrath of the law. This is too bad. But above all, mothers must learn from this. Ire o.

“Until we arrest them, we won’t know what actually happened. The mother might not be there. I gave an analogy that it might be the mother’s sister who even took the baby to visit her boyfriend.

“Sociologists and security experts have said it severally, and we will still continue to say it. We need to address some of these problems wholistically.

“Now, u will agree with me, to an extent, that our problems in Nigeria are grossly connected to social decadence. Every problem in Nigeria today is tailored to one societal issue or the other. If we address our societal problems, our general problems in Nigeria are 80% solved.”

Don’t blame cheating men, there are many beautiful ladies, says BBNs Tbaj

Reality TV star-turned-disc jockey, Tolani Shobajo, aka Tolani Baj or TBaj, has shared her thoughts on whether men who cheat should be castigated.

Tbaj took to her Twitter handle to query if men should actually be faulted for cheating.

She said with beautiful women outnumbering men, perhaps berating the men for having affairs with more than one woman may be unfair.

The former BBNaija “Lock Down” housemate warned that if a man were to cheat on her, she would certainly return the favour.

“There are so many beautiful women on earth but not enough men to match that. Are we really to fault men for cheating? I’ll cheat back if you cheat on me though. Just asking,” she tweeted.

Tbaj’s tweet elicited several reactions from her followers with many actually making case for the men, validating promiscuity among men.

@Cupids_Eye tweeted: “There’s a level of value a man reaches that he becomes irreplaceable but there is a hotter, finer, badder beessh turning 18 every day and social media advertises and makes them easily accessible…..It will always be a man’s world lol.”

“But fair enough, people are good to me. My lecturers were good to me, my classmates then, they were good to me.”

Interrupting the singer briefly, Chude asked; “Let’s assume out of the five papers you did, one of the major ones, it was either that exam or a concert with Burna Boy, which one would you have chosen?”
