You are celebrating stolen mandate in South East, APC PCC tells LP

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaigns Council (APC PCC) has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure the recovery of the party’s “stolen mandate” in the South East region during the just concluded general election.

The council accused the Labour Party (LP) of celebrating the ‘stolen mandate’ of APC in the region and called for a review of the results of the general elections in the region.

The PCC in conjunction with Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiative, Center for Leadership Legacy International, and the United Arewa Movement for Peace and Good Governance, at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday specifically asked the party’s NWC to step in and ensure that Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha’s stolen mandate is recovered and restored.

Expressing concerns over the lukewarm attitude of the party to the purported victory of LP in the South East, the Secretary of the Directorate of Agro and Commodities of the PCC, Retson Tedheke, lamented that nobody in the party was speaking for candidates who were allegedly rigged out through votes suppression, intimidation of voters and obvious manipulation of elections results.

Lamenting, Tedheke said,:“Many frontline and dedicated members of the party, who contested for various elective positions but were denied victory arising from rigging by the opposition political parties, we are asking that the party stand strong for them, to ensure that they reclaim their stolen mandates without further delay, especially, in the prosecution of their cases before the Election Petition Tribunal.

“In the next few weeks, we will detail some of the shocking irregularities, abuses and fraud that we have uncovered with concrete evidence during the presidential and national assembly elections.

“Most outstanding case in view is that of House of Representatives Deputy Chief Whip, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, representing Isikwato/Umunneochi federal constituency. It’s on record that Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha was the only APC stalwart in Abia State, who openly identified with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stood on the podium to campaign along with him during the presidential across the region. While we don’t want to go into some of the issues she openly told Asiwaju during his campaign in the region, which eventually came to pass, we want to say that the party must stand up and reclaim all its stolen mandates in the country.

“We like to put it on record that the Labour Party (LP) candidate for Isiukwato/Umunneochi federal constituency, Amaobi Ogah, was not a bonafide member of LP at the time of the party primary, because he left the APC and joined the PDP on March 19, 2022. On June 4, 2022, he joined LP and contested the party primaries four days later, on June 8. By contesting the primary on June 8, it explains clearly that he was not a member of any political party according to the provisions of the law and Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended).”

Tedheke described “the election of the Isiukwuato/ Umunneochi federal constituency as a sham and charade and if allowed to stand, would have thwarted the resolve of the majority of the people of the constituency and set a bad precedent for future elections.

“While this is not the only basis for which she is challenging the results of the Isiukwuato-Umunneochi Federal Constituency election of 25 February, we must also state it clear evidence of electoral infractions has been compiled to validate our claims.

“Our prayers therefore, are: the APC should and must make every move to reclaim its stolen mandates, even if it means setting up a committee from the existing Presidential Campaign Council to review what transpired during the elections.

“While Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has so far approached the Court to reclaim to challenge what members of her constituency have termed robbery hatched against her, we maintain that the Leadership of the APC at all levels rise to the occasion to retrieve her mandate and that of many others who contested on the platform but were robbed of their mandates through widespread malpractices, vote suppression and falsification of results as witnessed in the South-east.”

  • Cole, APC leaders worked against Tinubu in Rivers- Wike

Cole, APC leaders worked against Tinubu in Rivers- Wike

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has said that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tonye Cole and his supporters worked against their presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu but failed in their own elections.

The Governor said while Cole was working for the emergence of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, he led the campaign for a southern Presidency that delivered bulk votes to Tinubu in Rivers.

Wike insisted that he owed nobody any apology for supporting the emergence of a Southern president.

Addressing Cole, he said: “How can people say that they rigged you? You said you made your presidential candidate to win. Your presidential candidate won but you don’t get one senate (seat). What kind of winning is that?

“They supported PDP candidate and they lost woefully. They didn’t get 25 per cent. We supported a southern president for equity, fairness and justice and we took the senate seats. We took 11 House of Reps out of 13. We prove to them we are responsible and we are in charge of the state”.

Wike wondered why Cole and not his lawyers or agents were the ones going to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office to collect certified true copies (CTC) of electoral materials.

The governor spoke during the inauguration of Government Secondary School in Kpor  Community of Gokana Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Wike said the show of desperation by Cole suggested a sinister motive that should not be waved away but queried.

The Governor dismissed as baseless the allegations raised by Cole against the PDP that they attacked him and prevented him from accessing INEC office in Port Harcourt.

Wike explained that because of the popularity of PDP in Rivers following its excellent performance, the party won all three senatorial seats, 11 House of Representatives seats and all 32 State House of Assembly seats.

Wike described as laughable the decision of the governorship candidates of Accord party, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and the Labour Party, Beatrice Itubo,  to approach the election tribunal to contest the results.

He said such candidates were not opponents in the election but were only desirous to be on the ballot.

  • NCC refutes allegations of phone tracking

NCC refutes allegations of phone tracking

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has refuted allegations of phone tracking and leakage of audio conversations among Nigerians and notable personalities.

The Commission, in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, said the allegations have been referred to security agencies for investigation and appropriate actions.

The NCC noted it had been inundated with enquiries by the media in recent times regarding phone tracking and audio conversation leakage.

Though the NCC didn’t mention the leaked audio conversations between the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide Bishop David Oyedepo, the leaked audio had been trending on social media platforms since last weekend.

The NCC denied the allegations and advised Nigerians to disregard them.

It said: “The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been inundated with enquiries by the media on allegations of telephone “tracking” and “leakage” made against the Commission by some individuals and groups in the social and alternative media.

“The Commission wishes to make the following clarifications:

           i.            The Commission denies the allegations in their entirety.

ii.            By the provisions of the Nigerian Communication Act (NCA) 2003 and other extant Laws of the Federation, the Commission does not and cannot “track” nor “leak” telephone conversations of anyone.

iii.            The Commission has reported the allegations, which we take seriously, to relevant security agencies for proper investigation and necessary action.

iv.            The Commission restates its commitment to discharge its responsibilities to the Nigerian people in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the NCA 2003; and other extant Laws of the Federation; and global best practices.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission denies these allegations and advises the public to disregard them.”

  • INEC breaks silence in Rivers as protest rocks office again

INEC breaks silence in Rivers as protest rocks office again

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has broken its silence on the ongoing protest by parties to inspect electoral materials and obtain the Certified True Copies (CTC) of documents used in conducting the just-concluded general elections in Rivers State.

Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by its Governorship Candidate, Tonye Cole, started the protest, which was later joined by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Members of the two parties clashed on Monday causing bloodshed and destruction of properties in Port Harcourt with Cole saying he was attacked and injured by the thugs.

On Tuesday while Cole and other APC chieftains stayed away from the streets, different groups of PDP members held protests in front of INEC’s office.

A PDP group dominated by women stormed the commission’s office demanding that the PDP must jointly partake in the inspection of materials used in the election.

House of Assembly members including the Leader of the House, Martins Amawhule; Deputy Speaker, Edison Ehie and the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike, joined the protest.

They further demanded immediate arrest of Cole for an alleged murder saying the APC Candidate’s attack on them on Monday resulted in the death of one person.

They said the party had already submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police for Cole’s arrest and prosecution.

The protesters brandished a copy of the PDP’s petition dated March 24 where they demanded that INEC should release the CTC of electoral materials.

They vowed to sustain the protest to avoid a repeat of the 2016 scenario in which evidence from the police was used to cancel the electoral victories of the PDP at the Appeal Court and a similar situation in Imo State.

But the protest took a dramatic twist when another group led by a fetish doctor in his full regalia came to perform a sacrifice in front of the INEC office.

Wike wondered why Cole, who is standing trial for diverting $50m belonging to the state would be angling to govern the Rivers.

INEC, however, in a statement signed by the Rivers Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Johnson Sinikiem, said though the application for the CTC remained the legitimate entitlements of the candidates, some basic processes must be followed.

Sinikiem said the commission was processing about 50 applications it received so far from candidates and that the process was ongoing.

He said: ” The commission has observed with equanimity the unfolding events in the past few days concerning the issuance of Certified True Copies of election materials and access for inspection of election materials used during the just concluded 2023 General Elections in Rivers State.

“Although the application of Certified True Copies of documents and access for inspection of election materials are the legitimate entitlement of Candidates and Parties to election petitions, these are however governed by processes and procedures which include payment of requisite fees, making copies/photocopies of relevant documents and certification by the authorised official of the commission.

“The commission has received nearly fifty (50) of these applications since the conclusion of the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly elections Rivers State and a good number of these applications have been processed in accordance with the date of receipt of such applications and payment of certification fees. This process is still on-going.

“The commission has also advised all applicants to visit our local government offices where these documents are domiciled for inspection while we work out modalities for inspection of other documents domiciled at the state office in accordance with available spaces but they insisted that the huge volumes of documents like ballot papers be brought to the state office.

“They are once again reminded to avail themselves of this opportunity at our local government offices to inspect these materials as earlier advised.

“The management of INEC Rivers State therefore wishes to assure all applicants and the general public that the commission is committed to discharging its constitutional and lawful duties without preferences or bias, and do request the cooperation and understanding of all parties and the general public to enable us serve you better”.

Blake Resort is located in a highbrow area along the popular Ahmadu Bello Way, Garki, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The Chairman thanked Akunedozi for remembering the suffering widows in the FCT and for his declaration to further reduce their burdens by awarding full scholarship to 100 fatherless children of the widows.

The Chairman also called on other residents of the FCT who God has blessed to emulate Blake boss to give back to the society where God has lifted them above poverty as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Addressing the widows, the celebrant, Uzochukwu Akunedozi, overwhelmed the guests with kind words of hope and encouragement.

Akunedozi said he called them out on his birthday to identify with them and also to appeal to them to adopt him as their son and allow him to take care of them as such.

He told the widows that he would continue to identify with them at intervals going forward, assuring them that what they widows saw was just the beginning.

“From this very moment, I like to give full scholarship to 100 of your children. Their school problems should not be your problems again but mine.

Bag of rice, ground nut oil, tomato, packet of maggi and cash were distributed to the women each as birthday gifts

  • Second Niger bridge opens on May 15, Lagos-Ibadan for completion April 30 – Fashola

Second Niger bridge opens on May 15, Lagos-Ibadan for completion April 30 – Fashola

The second Niger bridge should be fully open to traffic by May 15, Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has stated.

He also announced the Lagos-Ibadan expressway should be completed by April 30.

The Minister spoke on Tuesday while inspecting and confirming the completion of the Loko-Oweto bridge and link roads between Benue and Nasarawa States.

Concerning the second Niger bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Fashola said: “On the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the date we have now, and once again, I want to appeal first to commuters on that road for their continuous patience, forbearance and understanding – it is a difficult project to execute because it is perhaps one of the busiest roads in the country.

“Building through 40,000 vehicular traffic daily is not an easy undertaking, we can’t shut down the road. So, we have to also manage and divert traffic for the safety of those who are involved in the construction.

“So, I want to implore that forbearance continues because the headline date we have for completion now is the 30th of April this month. So, in barely about four weeks, 26 days, plus or minus, that road should also be fully completed, open to traffic from Lagos to Ibadan, and beyond the toll gate up to kilometer 116. That will be done by the 30th of April.

“What will be left is 9 kilometers, from kilometers 17 to 27. And the reason why that will be left is that the Oyo state government is constructing drainage across the road, and we have decided that we need the drainage because it will help address the issue of excessive flooding and climate change in Oyo state.

“But we believe that it is better to wait for them to finish that project, and then complete the remaining 9 kilometers, instead of building it now and then having them cut it up again. So, just 9 kilometers outside Ibadan is what will be left. But by the 30th of April, your end-to-end, from Lagos tollgate to the Ibadan tollgate, the road should be open on the 30th of April for traffic.

“Yesterday, we had a periodic meeting in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President where the contractors, our team, all reviewed the challenges (on the second Niger bridge) and how to solve them.

“The link road (of the second Niger bridge) that we formally opened to traffic, the date we have now is the 15th of May, as of yesterday. We are rolling out all the steps to support the contractor to see that that date is achieved.

“A lot of snag resolutions are going to start; lane marking on the bridge will soon start and erection of signages will also soon start. Just about two weeks before the end of the term, the President will be invited to the completion, and maybe any day thereafter, he will be able to fly in and do the ceremony. But by the 15th of May, the bridge should be fully open to traffic.”

  • Onjeh gets court order to inspect electoral materials

Onjeh gets court order to inspect electoral materials

The National/State Legislative House Election Tribunal Holding in Makurdi, Benue State on Monday granted the request of Comrade Daniel Onjeh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 senatorial candidate for Benue South to inspect the sensitive election materials used during the February 25 National Assembly Elections in Benue South.

The Hon. Justice Ory Zik-Ikeorha-led panel of the tribunal granted the Order after the Motion Ex-Parte application with Motion No: EPT/BN/SEN/5/2023 brought by Onjeh and his party dated 16th March, 2023 but filed on March 24, 2023. In the case, Sen. Patrick Abba Moro; the PDP and INEC were respectively cited as Respondents.

Onjeh’s ex-parte application was brought pursuant to the First Schedule of the Electoral Act, 2022, particularly Paragraph 35 thereof; and under the inherent jurisdiction of the Tribunal.

In the application moved by Onjeh’s lawyers led by Samuel Adama, Esq., he sought seven principal reliefs, namely:

    1.      LEAVE of the Honourable Tribunal allowing the Applicants to move the Motion out of pre-hearing sessions

    2.      AN ORDER of the Honourable Tribunal allowing and/or and permitting the Petitioners/Applicants or their counsel and agents to inspect and take copies/photocopies of the following:

    i.       All forms ECSA(1), ECSB(1-), ECSC(1), ECSP(1), EC25 series and EC40 series all used during the Benue South Senatorial District Election held on 25th February, 2023

ii.      Copies/Certified True Copies of  all Voters Register used during the Benue South Senatorial District Election held on 25th February, 2023 in all the polling units that make up Benue South Senatorial District.

iii.     All the polling units’ data/statistics of accredited voters as captured and recorded by BVAS for Benue South Senatorial District Election held on 25th February, 2023 in all the polling units.

iv. All Voter’s Registers used for the purpose of accreditation for the 25th February, 2023 Benue South Senatorial District election.

    v.      The Register containing the particulars of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) distribution on polling units’ basis in all the polling units that make-up Benue South Senatorial District and the signature of the recipients of the Permanent   Voters Card and the phone numbers.

    3.      AN ORDER of the Honourable Tribunal Directing the Resident Electoral Commissioner to make available to the Petitioners/Applicants Certified True Copies of the electoral forms and other materials used in all the polling units that make-up Benue South Senatorial District during the conduct of the election held on 25th February, 2023.

    4. AN ORDER of the Honourable Tribunal granting LEAVE to the Petitioners to carry out PHYSICAL INSPECTION of ALL the BVAS MACHINES used for the purpose of accreditation of Voters during the Benue South Senatorial District election and RELY on the TIME STAMPS of Results Sheets UPLOADING/TRANSMISSION as captured by the said BVAS MACHINES.

    5.      AN ORDER of the Hounourable Tribunal granting LEAVE to the Petitioners to INSPECT and RECOUNT all the BALLOT PAPERS used during the Benue South Senatorial District election of 25th February, 2023 and to RELY on the results of the BALLOT PAPERS INSPECTION and RECOUNT in proof of the Petitioners allegations of votes suppression and other allegations of irregularities and non-compliance alleged in the Petition.

    6. AN ORDER of the Honourable Tribunal granting LEAVE to the Petitioners to INSPECT ALL the BVAS MACHINES used for the accreditation in ALL the Polling Units for Benue South Senatorial District election for the purpose of taking RECORDS, NUMBER and STATISTICS of ACTUAL accreditation done in the Benue South Senatorial District election of 25th February, 2023.

    7.      AND FOR SUCH FURTHER order or orders as the Honourable Tribunal may deem fit to make in the circumstance.

The Plaintiffs specifically urged the Tribunal to compel INEC to allow them or their counsel and agents to have unfettered access to relevant documents, machines and other equipment in its custody, which were used for the conduct of the Saturday, 25th February, 2023 Benue South Senatorial Polls. They maintained that the requested materials would aid their petition against the outcome of the 2023 Benue South Senatorial Election.

After the reading of the Motion Paper, the Sworn Affidavit of Onjeh and his Written Address in Support of the application, as well as hearing the presentations of the learned counsels to the Petitioners, the Chairman of the Tribunal, Hon. Justice Zik-Ikeorha, ordered that the application is granted as prayed ex-facie the Motion Paper as Relief Nos. 1, 2(i-v), 3, 4 and 6.

According to the Tribunal, the reason it declined the Applicants’ Relief No. 5 was because it had to do with the inspection and recount of all the ballot Papers used during the Benue South Senatorial District election of 25th February, 2023; and for that to be granted, it is necessary for the Applicants to put all the other parties in the suit on notice.

INEC declared Sen. Patrick Abba Moro of the PDP as the winner of the Benue South 2023 Senatorial Poll, ahead of nine other candidates that contested the election. According to INEC, Sen. Moro scored a total of 76,459 votes to defeat his closest rival, Onjeh of the APC, who polled 59,959 votes. However, Onjeh rejected the outcome of the election and vowed to reclaim his mandate in court.

Consequently, Onjeh filed his petition at the Tribunal on 17th March, 2023; with Petition No: EPT/BN/SEN/5/2023. The Petition was based on the following grounds:

    (a)     The 1st Respondent was, at the time of the election, not qualified to contest the election.

    (b)    The 1st Respondent was not duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast at the election.

    (c)     The election of the 1st Respondent was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

When contacted on the implication of the court order, particularly with reference to the Relief No. 5 that was declined by the Tribunal, Barrister Adama, who led Onjeh’s legal team said it was not a big deal, adding that what the Tribunal had done was simply to advise the Applicant’s legal team to file another application seeking the earlier Relief No. 5, but to ensure that in the subsequent application they put all the other parties in the matter on notice.

  • Beware of hackers, NCC warns WhatsApp users

Beware of hackers, NCC warns WhatsApp users

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  has warned users of online social interactive platform,  WhatsApp,  to beware of the activities of hackers and take steps to be ahead of them.

The NCC, in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, listed two major steps to be taken by users of the platform to ward off hackers.

Through its Computer Security Incident Response Team (NCC-CSIRT), the regulatory body recommended that users of the popular messaging app, should “set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to avoid falling victim to account takeover by hackers.”

According to an advisory on Tuesday, NCC-CSIRT noted that WhatsApp, which is a Meta-owned service, is increasingly becoming a prime target for hackers and scammers who are always looking for ways to gain unauthorized access to users’ accounts.

It described two-factor authentication (2FA) as an identity and access management security method that requires two forms of identification to access resources and data.

“In the world of messaging apps, one of the most popular and recognizable is WhatsApp. WhatsApp is 100 percent free to use, has a great mobile app, and supports audio and video calls.

”Whether you rely on WhatsApp for all your messaging needs or just use it from time to time, it is recommended to set it up with two-factor authentication (2FA). With this enabled, you will need to enter a custom PIN every time you log in to WhatsApp from a new device, adding an extra layer of security to your account, ”  said the advisory.

It further said: “2FA gives businesses or people the ability to monitor and help safeguard their most vulnerable information and networks. The 2FA is important because it prevents cybercriminals from stealing, destroying, or accessing your internal data records for their own use”.

The recommendation further stated: “WhatsApp provides two-factor authentication so you can further secure your account using a PIN. It is an optional feature that adds more security to your WhatsApp account, so it is recommended that everyone installs 2FA”.

The CSIRT stated ten steps for enabling 2FA on WhatsApp, which include the following steps:

“Open WhatsApp, Tap Settings, Tap Account, Tap Two-Step Verification, Tap Enable, Enter the Six-Digit PIN you wish to use, Tap Next, then enter it a second time to confirm it, Tap Next, Add an email address for extra security (this step is optional but it is an extra way to retrieve your account if you forget your Pin) and then Tap Next.

“For those concerned that their PIN might have been compromised or is easy to guess, they can change their WhatsApp PIN or email address by tapping settings.

“Two-Step Verification, tapping Change PIN or Change Email Address, Entering a new PIN or email address, and then tapping ‘next’ to effect the necessary changes.

“The CSIRT is the telecom sector’s cyber security incidence center set up by the NCC to focus on incidents in the telecom sector and as they may affect telecom consumers and citizens at large,” Muoka asserted.

  • Ladies who are not virgins make better decisions – OAP Nedu

Ladies who are not virgins make better decisions – OAP Nedu

Broadcaster Chinedu Ani Emmanuel aka Nedu has argued girls who aren’t virgins are better decision-makers than those who are.

He said most virgins perceived their virginity as not just their pride or value but everything, arguing that was all they always have to offer.

The on-air personality wondered what would become of them when they eventually lose their virginity.

â€œIf I want to get married, I won’t marry a virgin,” he said during the latest episode of the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast’.

“The fact that you are a virgin does not make you the best woman a man can marry.

“For me, why do I think you should marry a girl that is not a virgin, girls who are not virgins, in my opinion, make better decisions better because most girls who are virgins believe that their virginity is their pride and value,

“They would say my virginity is who I am as a woman. It is everything. I’m 30 years old and I’m a virgin.

“This means, every pride as a woman is your virginity, so when you get married and your husband dis-virgins you, then what will become of you?

“In that case, anything a man tells you at that point, you agree, but for the experienced lady, you have that mentality to know what is right and wrong.

“But that is not to say being a virgin is bad, it’s my personal opinion.”
