Fresh crisis rocks Plateau PDP over Atiku/Wike feud

A crack has emerged among stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State over the crisis rocking the opposition party.

Former Governor Senator Jonah Jang heads the pro-Wike group while former Secretary to Plateau State Government Prof Shedrach Best heads the pro-Atiku group over the protracted crisis between the duo.

Jang has called on PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu to resign and relinquish the position to the South for truth and fairness ahead of the 2023 poll .

But Best, in a statement, berated Jang for calling for the resignation of Ayu.

He said: “The call by Senator Jang was his personal opinion and not that of the party stakeholders.”

In another briefing in Jos, Jang insisted his call was to ensure truth and justice as the basic principles on which the party was founded.

Media consultant to Jang, Garuba Clinton, who spoke with reporters on his behalf, said: ‘My attention has been drawn to a publication purportedly issued by a certain unknown group dubbed Plateau for Atiku group and signed by its Protem Secretary, Prof. Shedrack Best.

“The group in the said publication alleged that Plateau PDP stakeholders disowned Sen (Dr) Jonah David Jang for asking the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to resign.

“Perhaps it is important to school the said group, which has arrogated to itself the noble position of stakeholders, which it indeed is not, of the dynamics of the politics of the PDP to which they are latter-day entrants. They may have been carried away by blind followership to know that Sen. Jang and the other founding fathers of the PDP built it on the principles of justice, equity and fairness and it is these principles that held the party to where it is today.

“Subverting the constitution of the party long-held tradition of inclusiveness is a sure way to derail the party from getting back to its winning ways. Senator Jang and the real stakeholders in the party are not surprised that such a publication is authored by Prof. Shedrack Best who is still aggrieved and sulking over his loss in the recently held primaries of the PDP in Plateau State.

“He needs to let go of the bitterness against Jang as he is not responsible for his loss, as the stakeholders agreed then that, the delegates voted for aspirants and only one winner could emerge.

“It is true that Senator Jang and other prominent members of the party have been with Governor Nyesom Wike in the fight to entrench truth, equity and the need to give all members a sense of belonging and they have also made it clear that it is for the purpose of moving the party forward and leading it to victory at the polls.

“Those who have followed Jang closely will attest to the consistent history of Jang as it relates to truth and fairness , such that as a sitting Governor, he once challenged a sitting President of Nigeria who was also a member of same political party ( PDP) in court.

“Prof. Best of all people should know that in pursuit of truth , Jang is always prepared to tow the lonely path. Several calls have been made to the party to salvage the situation and resolve the issues arising from the outcome of the presidential primaries but it seems all call fell on deaf ears.

“Instead of reinforcing the call on the leadership of the party to do the right thing, it is unfortunate that the so-called unknown stakeholders are seeking for relevance by using the name of Senator Jang as a launching path. They could go ahead with supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubaker without dragging Senator Jang into their journey to infamy.

“They should make no mistake either, about the fact that, Senator Jonah Jang does not have anything personal against His Excellency , Atiku Abubakar as those in this journey of infamy will recall that in 2019 , mobilized his personal resources in support of Atiku despite the fact funds made available for the campaigns was in an attempt to ridicule Jang sent to the wrong persons .

“Former Governor Jang has decided to go with the group that believes in the truth and is not surprised that this group of “stakeholders” is not in agreement with the path he has chosen. He did not envisage that everyone will agree with him but he is working based on his conviction that the truth must be told in the interest of the party.”

  • Tobi Amusan: I took $50,000 loan for 2022 World Championships

Tobi Amusan: I took $50,000 loan for 2022 World Championships

Just like an oasis in the desert, world record holder, Tobi Amusan (OON), has proven that breaking the world record was no fluke, and this is something she can do repeatedly. Amusan was recently hosted to a rousing reception and befitting home-coming dinner event in Lagos organised by her sport management outfit, Plug Sports.

In a chat with reporters, the Ijebu-Ode-born athletics queen shared her story of how she took a $50,000 loan to aid her preparation for the World Athletics Championships and other issues. ALAO ABIODUN reports.

How does it feel to be ratified?

That is the best feeling ever because we know we’ve done the work. It’s a breath of fresh air for me and I’m still getting a hang of everything happening to me right now. My 200 million soldiers across Nigeria supported me through the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and the Diamond League, I trust them.

What was the feeling like the moment you crossed the line?

It was accomplishing for me because looking back at the previous years of major tournaments and championship, it was always fourth place finish. That one time was not just like any medal. It was a world record; the first Nigerian to do everything on that stage. I felt elated.

How does it feel to finally beat those you’ve competing with, the likes of Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and USA’s Kendra Harrison?

This is a competitive event and I would not say it is not challenging. When I lined-up against the other seven, I knew it was me versus the clock. In as much as you are aware of the environment and the people you are competing against; you just have to bring your A-Game every time.

On the issue of the 4x100m relay race at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Grace Nkwocha is facing a doping test and has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), what is your reaction if she is stripped of the medal?

Honestly, my name is Tobi Amusan and for Grace Nkwocha, we are not related. Although, I competed in the race but that is something she has to account for. Until the final verdict is passed, I can’t speak on behalf of anybody.

Your numbers grew sufficiently on social media when you took the world by storm. How does that feel for you?

At least the few Nigerians that appreciate what we do give us a follow and those that love other things just come on your page and scroll by. But I am still grateful for the little support system I’ve got.

Did you feel sad with the backlash from American sprinter Micheal Johnson?

Honestly, I keep doing my thing because after the World Championship, I have other competitions to attend. I don’t dwell on negativity so I look at the brighter side of the sport.

What is the future for Tobi Amusan?

To keep working at standing up for myself. Just build on what I have and keep showing up.

Now that your world record is ratified, what was the result of your dope sample?

If my world record is ratified, it means I am clean and free. That feels great. And if you are asking for the update on my doping test, I would like to say that it is confidential. It is between me and the officials of the competition (WADA) and not for the public.

After the feat that took the world by storm, the press could not get your parents to talk to them for reasons unknown. What can you say about that?

They have not been in this kind of spotlight before now. Everybody wants to come behind my back and talk to my family. It is not done like that. There are procedures to follow. My management had to set up a meeting to discuss things. And I really do not want them to be caught up in the moment with the press in their faces.

How do you feel about the title ‘Officer of the Niger of the Order (OON)’ bestowed to you by President Buhari?

It is a great feeling to be recognised by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In as much as we did the work, it is an honour that took accountability that we did make the nation proud. It was such a great feeling getting that title.

What goes on in your mind in each event you are competing for?

Every time I step on the track, the goal is to win.

How can we get another Tobi Amusan?

Grassroot development of sport is something we actually lack. We tend to lose our top athletes to trainers in the United States. If we have such development here to groom young ones, we are going to have a lot of Tobi Amusan.

On a lighter note, what is your love life like, is Tobi single?

Chill…right now I am working hard on myself, my career. I know at the right time a man will come. There are men watching me now but at the right time my man will come

    Who is your favourite actor?

Laughs… On the male side, Odunlade Adekola and for female, Mide Martins.

What do you do for fun?

I sleep. A lot. As an athlete, I eat everything that I can, especially things that can give me energy.

There is the news that you borrowed $50,000 loan to prepare for the World Athletics Championships. Is that so?

Definitely, yes. I get injured a couple of times.

There was so much I needed to do when it comes to my health as a professional athlete, and staying on top of my game required a lot of funding.

Well, the reality is that although you need a little bit of luck in casino games, along with this, you also need a strategy, discipline, and a good understanding of the game. So, if you want to play bombastic live casino games online, here are some key factors that will help you win big.

    1. Choose One Game and Excel in It:

Yes, playing a live casino game is all about having fun and enjoying your time.

But if you are looking to win some serious money from online casino platforms, it is best to choose one single game and practice it until you excel.

The more you play the game, the more you will understand the nuances, which will help you earn big.

But remember that you must start slowly and increase the amount of money you are betting; only then will you get a complete understanding of the game. It is always better to gamble responsibly rather than suffer from losses later.

    1. You Need to Have a Clear Understanding of the Rules.

When you simply jump into playing the game without having a clear understanding of how the game is actually played, success won’t come easy to you.

Knowing the basics of the game is one thing, but having a clear understanding of each rule and regulation followed is another.

Each casino game, whether it is Russian Roulette, Black Jack, Poker, or any other game for that matter, comes with its own unique rules, and without understanding the ins and outs of the respective games, winning big is just wishful thinking.

    1. Get Familiar with All the Bonuses and Promotions:

Bonuses and promotions help players boost their bankrolls and make opportunities to win easily available.

Here are some of the most common promotions that you must know about if you want to win big:

Welcome bonus: A large number of online casinos offer welcome bonuses that are equal to the initial deposit you make on the platform.

    1. Select a Good Platform:

Practicing safety when playing any game on an online platform is very important, and the same goes for online casino games. If you don’t choose a good and reliable platform, chances are you will not enjoy fair gameplay.

When the site is not licensed by a reputable institution such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the likelihood of the platform not being genuine and providing unfair gameplay is also very high.

Strategies Used in Common Online Casino Games:

If you are a newbie in the world of online casinos, here are some golden rules followed in the most common online casino games to help you in the long run:

    1. Black Jack: Everyone’s favorite Black Jack is a tough game to crack, and most players will agree that earning rewards from this game is difficult.

But when you use the card counting technique to keep the ratio of the highest to the lowest card in the deck in check, you can expect to enjoy high wins.

    1. Russian Roulette: If you know strategies such as Martingale and Fibonacci, managing your bets is fairly easy.

Also many players focus on outer bets such as Red/Black, Even/Odd, or High/Low for higher winning chances.

    1. Baccarat: Winning in Baccarat has been statistically proven to be easier. Also, betting on the banker has a lower edge than betting on the player.

Don’t Forget to Have Fun and Be Responsible

Why would someone not want to win big in an online casino game? But in this process, you must remember that it is just a game, and having fun is more important than winning.

Also, please be responsible while gambling on these online sites and set a limit on how much you can afford to lose to avoid hardship later on.

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted an order restraining parties in a suit about the Ikoyi Cancer Treatment Centre at No.16, Alexander Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, from demolishing or tampering with the building pending the determination of all the cases pending in court over the land.

The Applicant’s counsel Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, said in a statement that Justice Daniel Osiagor granted the order following his application.

He said Justice Osiagor also granted an order transferring the case to the High Court of Lagos State, for it to be consolidated with the other pending cases on the subject matter.

The statement reads in part: “The Applicant, Kings County Property Development Company and its directors, Alhaji Hameed Kasumu and Mr. Abdul-Jamaal Kasumu had approached the Federal High Court in Lagos on August 8, 2022, with an application for an order of injunction to restrain the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command and Mr Muhammadu Wada, from arresting or detaining the directors and also from taking any steps that may jeopardise or compromise the buildings housing the Cancer Treatment Center.

Alaafin stool: Oyomesi reverses self, says all aspirants qualified

The Oyo Traditional Council also known as Oyomesi has said all the 65 aspirants for the stool of the Alaafin will be presented before Ifa oracle for consultation.

This was contrary to its previous announcement that ten aspirants have been shortlisted out of the over 65 contestants who appeared for screening last Thursday.

The Council also denied any form of rift among its members but confirmed there was “little disagreement” on the ten shortlisted names.

When contacted, the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Mr Bode Durojaiye confirmed the development to The Nation on Sunday.

Speaking on the new development, the Acting Regent who doubles as the Bashorun of Oyo, High Chief Yussuf Ayoola Layinka, said the decision became imperative following a minor disagreement among the Council members.

He said whoever emerges among the 65 aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.

The Regent said: “Following minor disagreement among some members of the Oyo Traditional Council (the Oyo Mesi) over shortlisting of some aspirants who qualified for the interview, there will no longer be any shortlisted contestants.

“All contestants who appeared for the interview are qualified for the next level, which is Ifa consultation, after the meeting of members of the Oyo Mesi.

“Whoever emerges among the aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.

“There is no rift among members of the Oyo Mesi contrary to insinuations and misinformation milling around. We are as United as ever.

“Misunderstanding can happen at any given point in time. It is natural. What is important is the amicable resolution, in order not to let the misunderstanding degenerate into violence.

“None of the Oyo Mesi members has a favoured aspirant, as all the contestants are equal before us. For the umpteenth time, we are conscientious, thorough, not money conscious and greedy”.

Signs of crack in the council surfaced at the weekend when the Iba Saamu of Oyo, High Chief Lamidi Olayanju and three other chiefs distanced themselves from the 10 persons shortlisted for the vacant stool, saying he knew nothing about it.

He said he confirmed the news on the ten shortlisted aspirants from the Bashorun but that the decision was not jointly taken by the Council members.

“I called Basorun and he told me that he was the one behind the news that 10 persons had been shortlisted. Four of us know nothing about it. When we completed the interview on Thursday, we all agreed that we would meet next Tuesday to do that but hearing that 10 persons had been shortlisted on the radio is news to me. I called Basorun and he told me he authored the news.

“I heard it on the radio that we had shortlisted 10 but I am telling you I am not part of that and I called four of us and they said they did not know anything about it. Agbaakin (High Chief Asinmiyu) told me he was not part of the decision to pick 10 contestants; Akinniku (High Chief Amusa Yusuf) also told me that he was not part of it; Alapini (High Chief Rasheed Sheu) is indisposed.”

Asked if the rest of the kingmakers would abide by the shortlisted contestants, he said: “Can you, yourself, abide by such a decision? We don’t know anything about it, we didn’t know when he picked them, so, we can’t abide by such.

“If we agree with him and the remaining contestants drag all of us to court, how are we going to defend what we were not part of?”
