    IVLP fellow trains 21 female journalists on digital, fact checking skills

    A fellow of the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) Kofoworola Belo-Osagie has organised a workshop for twenty-one female journalists from various media organisations across the country.

    Belo-Osagie, passionate about women excelling especially in journalism, courtesy (IVLP) US Department of State, organised the workshop to equip female journalists with digital and fact-checking skills for media excellence.

    The three-day workshop tagged “IVLP Impact Award Digital Skills and Fact-checking Training” held at the Centre for International Advanced Professional Studies (CIAPS) Lagos.

    Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the convener, explained the choice of women as beneficiaries was informed by the discrimination the female journalists face particularly in the newsroom where you find a vast majority of men occupying top editorial/managerial positions.

    According to Belo-Osagie, who is also the Commissioning Editor Nigeria of the Conversation Africa, the limited number of participants was to ensure adequate support and expansive benefits from the seminar.

    She noted the training would aid female journalists in various career stages bridge the digital divide and be better grounded in “fact-checking” to easily detect misinformation, disinformation and false claims generally.

    “By gaining specialised skills that help bridge the digital gap, the journalist will expand the army of professionals in the media, news, information space”, she said.

    “They will also better fight fake news and produce much needed quality content that support societal development.

    “The training will focus on fact-checking, mobile journalism, video production/editing, digital skills – podcasting, social media journalism and one-minute video.”

    Don Jazzy new signee, Charles Chibueze Chukwu aka Crayon has recalled how he wrote Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) five times without gaining admission.

    The fast-rising artiste disclosed this during an interview ‘Rubbin’Minds’ on Channels TV monitored by The Nation

    Crayon said he wrote JAMB on the fifth attempt; failed the first two, passed the remaining three, and still couldn’t secure admission with it.

    The ‘ijo laba laba’ crooner also recounted how he has been putting in hard work into music since 2016 and everything paid off now.

    Crayon said: “It has been amazing and beautiful to see because I have been working over the years and now, I am now finally getting the recognition that I deserve.

    “So, it is beautiful to see among my fans, team, and everybody that knows me personally.

    “I started making music like 2016 officially. I wasn’t in school then but trying to get into the university. I wrote JAMB five times.

    “For the first two times, I failed; the rest three times, I passed. I kept going to the school to lay complaints and ask: ‘What’s up?’ It wasn’t just happening for me. I feel like it was God’s way of redirecting me.”

    Standup comedian Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth has said that he refused to sue a company despite not getting a property he paid for because he does not trust the judicial system.

    The comedian in an interview with Sunday Scoop said he is never a fan of the nation’s judicial system.

    He also stated that he has moved on to buy another property.

    Celebrity singer Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy has stated that he is yet to endorse any presidential candidate for the forthcoming 2023 general election.

    He stated this during an interview on Arise TV.

    According to the social activist, the presidential candidates are yet to come up with a “different story” and “inspire hope,” which informed his hesitation.

    He stressed that he will “interact with and interrogate” the candidates.

    Charly Boy also noted that he will announce his preferred candidate by November.

    When asked about his preferred candidate, he said: “I’ve been under intense pressure to say who my preferred candidate is, but I’ll say that at my own time when it is right,” Charly Boy said.

    “We have the history of most candidates, we know what’s what, and part of the problems we have today is ourselves.

    “However, I think hopelessness has united a lot of outstanding, exceptional youths of this country, and I just hope that this great change that we desire, that we so badly need, will happen at least while I’m still alive.”
