Lola OJ’s ‘Before you move to Nigeria’ offers hope for Nigerians in Diaspora

Lola OJ, author and a Vlogger, recently unveiled her book ‘Before you move to Nigeria.’

The book cover is bold and bright. The white, green and black combination and graphics draw your attention.

‘‘Before you move to Nigeria” is a guide that covers the highs and lows of relocating to Nigeria.

Lola OJ paints a vivid picture of what it looks like to move and live in Nigeria, using her personal experiences and the experiences of others who want to move to Nigeria. The book gives a clear picture of what it is like to live in Nigeria.

The layout is also attractive, and as you read through, you get a glimpse of the hustle and bustle of Nigeria’s fine cities and the financial, emotional, physical, and mental demands that anyone living in Nigeria must face daily. Coupled with the fictitious story of Titi, you will understand the culture shock that may occur, the costs of relocating, safety considerations, the challenges of migration, and the steps you must take, all written as if she sits right next to you.

Practical issues such as how to make a successful connection through networking and how to begin as an employee or employer are decisions you make as you migrate to Nigeria.
Contributing to the development of the country exposes you to the vast array of opportunities and exciting and fun experiences that Nigeria has to offer.

The writing style is interesting and easy to follow the storyline and the message.

The writer understands how vital balance is with her informed experiences with varying phases of living in Nigeria, she thought to show you the ropes of managing your experiences with the turbulent times of the country and let you see beyond the buzz of enjoyment and fun in Lagos is colorfully laced with.

The opening chapter heralds you into the real-time experiences of the book’s main character, Titi, a returnee to Nigeria who mistook the glamorous nature of partying in Lagos at night for a general mode of operations in the city. However, the author tried to strike the needed balance between the night’s fun and the busyness of the day.

When the subject of Nigeria is brought up in the presence of Nigerians who were born outside of the country, particularly the Millenials and Generation Z, they immediately think back to their earliest, warlike, ghetto memories of Nigeria—a country with unruly citizens, irate military personnel, and a vengeful government.

Naturally, there are several biases and misconceptions regarding the motherland. Imagine leaving a place in pursuit of greener pastures, and after overcoming a significant portion of the desire for migration, discovering that the only people you were looking for were your children, who were either returning to the place you left or preparing to settle there.

The account of Titi’s parents, and as is to be expected of African, particularly Nigerian parents, they find the strangeness of these thoughts to be overwhelming and worrying. However, there is more to Nigeria than just the accounts of its hardships. However, many young adult Nigerians living overseas hold certain attitudes that have been reinforced by the traditional media.

As a result, these people are adamant about their perception of Nigeria, which is not their fault. Nonetheless, the country’s bright side was highlighted at the start of this book. The balance you need to pursue as you consider moving to Nigeria, the right attitude toward living a fulfilling life back home, and the opportunity to learn from the author’s mistakes, that’s all you’ll find in this promising chapter and details beyond word-of-mouth.

But you won’t know how useful this advice and insights are until you read through the pages for yourself. The best way to do so is to get a copy of the book right away. Lola OJ shares sneak peeks of Before You Move To Nigeria

I’m most powerful artiste in the world – Brymo

Singer Olawale Ashimi Ọlọfọrọ aka Brymo has proclaimed himself the ‘most powerful artiste in the world’.

The singing sensation made this declaration in a chat with ‘OneJoblessBoy’ on ‘echooRoom’ where he also revealed he’s no longer a musician but a sonic artiste who paints pictures with words.

According to him, globally there exist no other artiste who’s a better songwriter, at the same times a better vocalist and performer.

He argued it’s either they are good at one or two of those but certainly not all three while he is.

“I’m the most powerful artiste in the world. If you find me a better songwriter, who’s also a better vocalist and who’s also a better performer; we can have this conversation”, said the “Ara” singer.

“It’s easy to find a better songwriter than Brymo but he would not be a better performer. It’s easy to find a better performer than Brymo but will not be a better songwriter.

“It’s impossible to find a man that’s as good a songwriter as Brymo that performs equally good, records equally good and is well-behaved.

“It’s impossible to find any artiste on earth who has all of these qualities. Yeah, it was an epiphany. I woke up one morning and I realised, damn! I’m that good!!

He added: “Now, this started with realising that I’m a black man. Go all over the world, when you find a black man who is really good-looking with sense, he doesn’t say much. For a black man who says a lot, he doesn’t sound nice. For a black man who sounds nice, he doesn’t perform well.

“You find him that he’s all of these things, he’s either a Christian or a Muslim; he doesn’t smoke or drink. There’s always something wrong.

“I’m an overall musician. Which is why I had to go far as saying that I’m no longer a musician, I’m a sonic artiste.

“Sometime earlier this year, I became a sonic artiste. I paint pictures with words.”

‘Report of unpaid soldiers’ salary, false, inciting’

The report about the outcry by some unnamed soldiers over the alleged delay by the Federal Government and the Service Chiefs in the payment of their July salaries in one of the national dailies has been condemned as unfounded and capable of inciting military personnel.

The Rebirth Movement, in a statement in Abuja, described the publication as “unnecessary, diversionary and unpatriotic”.

In the statement jointly signed by Convener, Unity Advocacy Group, Ifeanyi Aigbedion and President, Rebirth Movement, Oladapo Bolaji, “the story said that Abuja-based soldiers on the condition of anonymity said they and their colleagues are unhappy with the Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)-led Government and Service Chiefs for refusing to pay them their July 2022 salaries, especially because they’ve worked extraordinarily since the Kuje prison break and most recent attacks by non-state actors across the country, especially in the capital city, Abuja.

“The story has no substance and capable of inciting personnel at a time their services is urgently needed.

“We wonder what the story is out to serve. In which interest is it? What is the substance? How does it boost troop morale? It is not impossible to experience slight delays in salaries in the face of global economic meltdown.”

The statement commended personnel of the Armed Forces for their numerous sacrifices in the face of the security challenges and urged them not to allow enemies of the country thwart their efforts.

The group urged the media to support the Armed Forces and desist from stories that will lower morale.

“The media should harken to the plea of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor and adopt the German Press Code which says in reporting actual and threatened acts of violence, the press should carefully weigh the public interest in information against the interest of victims and other people involved.

“The CDS when he delivered a lecture at the National Defence College on the topic ‘National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria’, in Abuja, hinted that the military was implementing new strategies to ensure an end to raging insecurity in Nigeria.

“You don’t go to the market and throw stones. No one is exempted from the security challenges, as such all hands should be on deck to defeat the enemies of the country.

“We must support the military to implement their new strategies and not weaken their efforts,” the groups submitted.
