    Biu takes over as Acting Corps Marshal

    Outgoing Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Monday, handed over to Mr. Dauda Biu as Acting Corps Marshal.

    The handover ceremony took place at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja.

    According to a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Bisi Kazeem, Biu’s appointment took effect from July 24.

    Until his recent appointment, Biu was the Deputy Corps Marshal, Finance and Accounts at the FRSC headquarters. He joined the FRSC in 1988.

    FRSC Board Chairman, Malam Bukhari Bello, charged the new FRSC boss to justify his appointment by sustaining the tempo.

    Fire destroys eleven shops in Kwara market

    Early morning inferno on Monday destroyed not less than eleven shops in Alanamu market, Ilorin West local government area of Kwara state.The incident said to have been caused by a power surge, occurred around 5 am. Spokesperson of Kwara Fire Service Hassan Adekunle confirmed the incident and put the worth of the goods destroyed at N9.6 million. Adekunle added: “There was no one in the market even the security guards to notice the fire outbreak on time. A bike man passing-by was the one who saw the ravaging inferno and quickly informed the state fire service to rescue the situation.

    “However, firemen did everything possible to immediately stop the spread of the burning fire to the other shops, and subsequently eliminated the fire. Out of the 86 shops in the market arena, 11 shops were affected. “The estimated property saved was N865.5 million and the estimated property lost was N9.6 million.”

    He urged the general public especially the market people to be more safety conscious. He also advised “against unmonitored charging practice that many people in the society are doing at their various shops, offices, and homes. As this could endanger their lives and their property.”

    Court bars Ondo from evicting 10,000 farmers from Idanre forest reserve

    An Ondo State High Court sitting in Idanre has stopped the Ondo State government from forcefully evicting over 10,000 farmers from the Idanre forest reserve.

    Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in his bid to key into the Central Bank of Nigeria initiative on agriculture, ceded 30,000 hectares of forest to three private firms for the purpose of large-scale cultivation of oil palm, cashew and cocoa.

    The farmers, in a motion ex parte moved by their lawyer, Tope Temokun, prayed the court for an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants from forcefully evicting them or grading the farmland pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

    Defendants in the suit are Capital Management Limited, Ondo State Government, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Ministry of Agriculture,Ondo State amongst others.

    After listening to the argument of Tomekun, Justice S. Olorundahunsi granted prayers of the farmers and restrained the defendants including the Ondo State government and its security network, Amotekun Corps from forcefully ejecting or evicting them from their farmlands at Idanre Forest Reserve, Idanre Local Government Area.

    He also barred the defendants from grading the Claimants’ farmlands pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

    The case was adjourned to August 3rd, 2022.

    Speakers of the States of Assemblies in the north under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed the candidature of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shetitma ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.

    This was made known in a statement by the SA Media and Publicity to Kaduna Speaker Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, Hon Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani.

    According to the statement, Zailani who is the Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Speakers Forum, described the combination as a winning formula for the ruling APC.

    Popular comedian, Debo Adedayo, aka Mr Macaroni, has said allegations bordering on s3x-for-roles should be considered an offence, attracting punitive measures.

    The skit maker during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said such allegations including extorting money from job-seekers with the ‘promise’ of giving them jobs should attract consequences that’ll deter others from venturing on that path.

    He said: “Absolutely disgusting, absolutely abominable act, I’ve always spoken against it, even before I attained this position being a public figure.

    “I started acting as far back as 2012 or even 2010 but by God’s grace, people started to know me in 2019, don’t be in a hurry.
