I love portable, says Terry G

Popular music artiste Gabriel Amanyi aka Terry G has expressed love for the self-styled ‘wahala’ singer, Portable.

In a recent interview with Punch, the ‘Akpako’ master, while addressing the comparison to Portable by some social media users, said though it was ‘a good thing’ but argued the latter had nothing that could be compared to his whether musically or intellectually.

Terry G acknowledged the “Zazu” crooner’s uniqueness adding he portrays the personality of one who cannot be stopped.

“It is a good thing. I love Portable so much. Despite the fact that I did the ‘crazy genre’ of music, it does not mean that somebody else cannot be inspired and still unique. He is quite unique. There is nothing he has that can be compared to mine, musically and intellectually. I feel nobody should shut him out. He cannot be stopped.

“If he stops talking, what else will happen? That is his style. It (controversies) did not just start from me. It started with different guys that represented the streets, and it will still continue. It is normal.”

The rapper, who’s widely known for his eccentric dress-sense and controversial lyrics, said he has plans to collaborate with his supposed ‘protégé’.

According to Terry G, as long an artiste represents the street, he would certainly be interested in working with that person because he is a singer and also a producer.

“Yes, I have plans of collaborating with Portable. He has been to my house twice. But, we could not record our song that day because he had to be at a show in Akure, Ondo State.

“I am interested in working with anybody that represents the streets. I am a producer and singer,” he stressed.

2023: Okotie canvasses Interim National Government

General Overseer of the Household of God Church Pastor Chris Okotie has declared that the 2023 general elections will be a wild goose chase if the country is not restructured.

Making a case for the constitution of an Interim Government immediately, the cleric insisted that unless Nigeria is restructured by the instrumentality of an Interim Government, which will establish a proper geopolitical balance within the context of a true Federalism and rectify aberrations in the polity since 1960, the next election will merely be a shadow chasing exercise.

Okotie, a philanthropist and politician declared in a statement that the extant constitution is obsolete, retrogressive and subversive to the Nigerian cause.

To him, the forced arrangement involving bigger and smaller ethnic units in the so-called federation is already a disaster and series of elections cannot change this unless the right thing is done through restructuring.

He also believes the restructuring can only be done by eminent and patriotic Nigerians in the Interim Government arrangement and not partisan politicians who are only looking at the political gains of the next round of elections.

He said: “Nigeria is in dire need of restructuring. Our Federalism is simply terminological inexactitude. It is a realistic piece of fakery. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is obsolete, retrogressive and subversive to the Nigerian cause. It can no longer subsist as the legal protocol that guarantees the peaceful co-existence of autonomous ethnicities.

“No extant or subsisting government can right these aberrations for obvious parochial party considerations and entrenched partisan rivalries within the polity.

“The concentric arrangement of the WAZOBIA alliances have been a disaster, engendering the marginalisation of the smaller ethnic units. Thus, perforating the canopy of the Federalism under whose aegis we co-exist”.

Tension as NLC protesters storm Oyo Secretariat

A mild drama ensued on Tuesday when Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) protesters were temporarily held back from gaining access to Oyo State Secretariat.

The protesters had arranged to terminate their march at the State Secretariat where they expected Governor Seyi Makinde to receive address them after receiving a protest letter.

An advance team of government officials, including Executive Assistant to Makinde on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (Rtd) and Special Adviser on Labour Matters, who was the immediate past Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo, had waited at the main entrance of the Secretariat to receive the protesters.

The duo stayed, awaiting other top government functionaries who would address the protesters at the main entrance gate.

As security measures, the main entrance gate was shut before the arrival of the protesters to prevent unsuspecting individuals from taking undue advantage of the situation.

Heavy security was also stationed at the entrance gate with patrol vans at strategic angles around the Secretariat. Security operatives including Police and men of the Amotekun Corps were flooded the area.

On getting to the entrance gate, the visibly surprised protesters were enraged over closure of the gate.

As they stayed displaying placards and singing solidarity songs, tempers rose as the protesters who suddenly got enraged at the continued denial of entrance changed their solidarity songs and started chanting “All, we are saying, open this gate”.

The situation almost got out of hand about ten minutes later as some of the young protesters started banging the massive gate in an attempt to force it open.

The quick intervention of Odukoya in consultation with other security operatives who appealed to the protesters and ordered the gate be opened to allow entrance into the Secretariat.

A similar scenario almost repeated itself when the protesters also met a closed gate at the entrance of the Governor’s Office.

It was gathered that unfavourable security reports and fear of some students who infiltrated the protesters led to the decision of the security operatives not to open the gate of the Governor’s Office.

While that agitation rose, the government officials in consultation with labour leaders resolved to address the protesters from behind the gate.

Presenting the protest letter, Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, said the unions “are dismayed by the Federal Government’s paralysis and reluctance to take the necessary steps that could lead to the peaceful resolution of the issues in dispute and by extension, end the strike.

“On our part, we have taken various initiatives to end this strike including writing to the Ministers of Education and Labour and Employment and the presidency. Although this elicited some response from the government, it was tokenistic and not sufficient.”

After four decades, the Old Students, 1977/82 set of Ijebu Ife Community Grammar School, (IICGS) in Ijebu East local government area of Ogun State have donated a science laboratory to their alma mater.

They handed over the lab at the 40th reunion ceremony during which they rekindled their love and commitment to educational advancement.

President of the 1977/82 set, Kunle Adelaja said: “It was a time to give back to the school, the facilities and learning materials that would help her maintain its standard and aid the students to academic excellence.

“It has been 40 years since we left here. We thought of not just celebrating our reunion but also to contribute our quota to our alma mater. That’s what informed our gathering today. We had in mind different things to give to the school but when we came to inquire, we realised that some aspects had been met by another set.”

He added: “Expansion and equipping the school’s Science Laboratory became our project based on the school’s needs. For us, it is a dream come true. It is our hope and prayer that it would be judiciously used for the progress of the students and the school as a whole.’’

Adelaja said the laboratory would help the students to learn and acquire new skills beyond theoretical works.

Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 40th anniversary and reunion of the set, Owolabi Taiwo said the school deserved nothing short of the best.

Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUST), Dr. Gbemavo Kolawole Godonu, thanked the old students for taking keen interest in the school and student’s development.

He noted that this called for collective responsibility as no single individual or group of persons could fix it all alone.

Godonu added that education must be given a holistic approach for its benefit to be impactful, adding that it was time the country needed to do less lip service in tackling the challenges in the education sector.

Chairman of Ijebu-East local government, Hon. Wale Adedayo, noted that there is need for government at all levels to work the talks, especially in the area of infrastructure development, training and re-training of teachers and empowerment in a bid to meet up with the 21st century demands.
