Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin who said he and the PDP have high regards and respect for the former President, however said, it will be very disappointing if the statement credited to him and carried in virtually all the national dailies is true.

The elderstatesman said: “I wish to appeal to former President Obasanjo to come out openly to repeat what he has said,. Whether or not he was misquoted or meant what was credited to him.

“Although he has not debunked what was reported, one can assume that what was quoted to have been said by him is correct, but if he fails to openly come out and say which is correct in 48 hours, you will hear the bombardment and I will have no option but to break the egg and tell the whole world and Nigerians who is Obasanjo.

“There is no doubt Obasanjo may still be angry with Atiku even after helping him to succeed but perhaps for truncating his third term agenda, in any case, Alhaji Abubakar Atuku is our presidential candidate and I can tell you for sure that he will be the President in 2023 Insha Allah”.

He also dispelled all fears that the harmony of the apex court was heading for the rocks, clarifying that the recent memorandum, alleging neglect and signed by all justices of the Court, was an internal matter, which already was being handled.

“What Nigerians expect from me is to comply, abide and preserve the Constitution of Nigeria and that is what I will do with the cooperation of my brother justices of the supreme court. We shall not fail Nigeria

“There is no controversy at the Supreme Court. We are one with the Chief Justice. That is why you heard the President said the lordship is disengaging on the grounds of ill-health. No controversy, we are one”, he assured.

Asked about the welfare issues raised in the memorandum, which had been circulating in the media, the Acting CJN said “it was an internal memo of the court. It was not a petition, it was not a letter, it was addressed by the brother justices of the Chief Justice and was presented to him, his Lordship, directly. They were issues to be resolved amongst the justices”.

School census to address dearth of data for planning-UBEC

The Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi has said Nigeria does not have credible data for national planning in the basic education sector, hence school census was imperative to address it.

He spoke at a meeting with stakeholders on the ongoing National Personnel Audit in Lagos.

Bobboyi noted that private schools in Lagos state refused to grant access to the 177 enumerators who were deployed across the state to audit schools.

He told private school owners that the commission had no ulterior motive with the data being collected across Lagos State schools.

He said : ‘‘We have come to look at how to encourage our private schools to participate in the census.

“We want to check our enumerators and listen to their challenges and how we can help them.

“The exercise is not for taxation, many fear that the data can be used for something else; we do not have any hidden agenda. The National Personnel Audit report is also not for taxation.

“We need data to give us an idea of what will be needed for national planning; it will also give you an idea of the challenges, in terms of the number of out-of-school children.”

Bobboyi, however, urged private school owners to allow the enumerators to collect their school’s data.

A representative of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools(NAPPS), Lagos chapter, Dr Comfort Otegbeye, noted that private schools refused to welcome the UBEC enumerators because they felt their information would used for taxation.

Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board(LASUBEB), Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, urged the school owners to cooperate with the enumerators. He noted that they would be sensitised.
