I didn’t attend any church for healing- Kemi Afolabi

Actress Kemi Afolabi has disproved the rumour that she visited a church for healing from Lupus, a disease she announced she is struggling with.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actress said she was diagnosed with lupus and doctor noted that she has five years more to live.

Reacting to the false narrative attached to a picture circulating online where a lady was seen being prayed for by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, Afolabi said she is not the lady as netizens claimed.

The 44- year- old actress said she is a devoted Muslim and admonished the public to stop using her illness cook up false stories.

She wrote: “Since the news of my illness became public, I have gotten reports of different misinformation and false narratives out there.

“I have ignored it as my focus is on my well-being and health. I am a devout Muslim who believes in calling on God and seeking his face in times of need, this I have done consistently and JOY is certain in the end.

“Sometime ago, a picture was circulating online insinuating that I had visited Christ Embassy Church for healing.

“I paid no attention to it because I didn’t see visiting a church or getting prayers from a pastor as a bad thing. After all we all serve the same God, I believe.

“I was stunned at how insensitive humans could get just to score religion points which can simply be considered as blasphemy.

“I personally would like to use this medium to debunk such a false narrative. Never was there a time that I attended a church for healing. The picture circulating online is not me and I want everyone to please disregard it.

“I have a personal relationship with Allah, I don’t need anyone to get through to him,” she wrote.

Former BBNaija “Shine Ya Eye” housemate Pere Egbi has argued possession of wealth without proper education is ‘senseless.’

Pere, who is also a U.S Army soldier, argued education will always remain the key to lasting success.

He maintained individuals ought never to be contented with a life devoid of proper education or even try to substitute same for financial gains because such wealth will be lacking in substance.

Man beheads son for money rituals

A man has been taken into police custody in Delta State after he was accused of killing his son for money rituals.

Volt Gabriel, 33, allegedly beheaded his 20-month-old son, Godspower, Police Commissioner Mohammed Ali said.

The police commissioner said the incident occurred at Peanut Junction, Obeh village, Edo State.

Ali, in a statement yesterday, said a woman Mrs Success Oduwa, 24, reported the disappearance of her son to the police.

He said the victim’s mother asked her husband of the boy’s whereabouts but he said he was with his sister in Warri.

A police team at Warri “B” Division swung into action and arrested the suspect.

Gabriel reportedly confessed to dismembering his child with a hack saw and burying the head by a palm tree and throwing away the body.

The suspect claimed he was instructed in a dream that he would be wealthy if he killed his son and rubbed his head with the boy’s blood, police said.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have murdered the said child at Ewabogun Bush by Catholic Road, Benin City using a hand saw to cut off the head and buried it by a palm tree in the bush and threw away the headless body of the child.

“The suspect also said he actually killed the child because of a dream he had, where he saw a man who told him that if he kills the child and use the child’s blood to rub his head, he will become rich.”

  • Hold Buhari accountable for Kanu’s traivals – IPOB

Hold Buhari accountable for Kanu’s traivals – IPOB

    Emma Elekwa, Onitsha

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday said the Rwanda Commonwealth meeting has exposed President Muhammadu Buhari’s hidden agenda about its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The group asked the world to hold Buhari accountable for the torture Kanu was undergoing and whatever that might happen to him

In a statement by its media and publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB insisted the ypresident must tell the world why Kanu was still being detained barely a year after his arrest and rendition to Nigeria from Kenya.

Buhari in the Rwanda meeting ruled out bail for Kanu, adding that Kanu was being given every opportunity under the law “to justify all the uncomplimentary things he said against Nigeria while in Britain.”

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had in a statement quoted the President as making the comments at a bilateral meeting with the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

The statement reads in part:”Our attention has again been drawn to a statement credited to the supposed President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari in Kigali, Rwanda.

“UK prime minister specifically asked Buhari why Biafra leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention. In response Buhari and his handlers present, in their cluelessness, uninformed and legal knowledge deficiencies in relation to internal developments in the country perhaps due to biweekly international junketings he made unsubstantiated, fallacious and misleading comments with reference to associating Mazi Nnamdi anu with “jumping bail” as if he is ignorant of deploying the Military code-name “operation python dance II which he as the Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed forces instructed to invade the palace, village and Afaraukwu Ibeku Kingdom (community) Umuahia province (Abia State) whose only mission was to kill Kanu, IPOBs and any living thing found in his compound to the extent that they killed a dog the house pet of our leader.

“It is on record that Nnamdi Kanu did not jump bail but only ran for his dear life. The video evidence of the military invation of his house which claimed no fewer than 30 lives, only confirmed that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did what was needful for the moment.

“It is evident that world leaders enjoy making Buhari to advertise his ignorance of obvious realities and current issues. The global community after watching the military invasion of the home of the Biafran leader, where armoured vehicles and helicopter gunships were used against an unarmed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra clearly understand that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not jump bail, instead he escaped for his life. The indisputable truth is that if he did not run, by now he would have been a dead man.

“The world is watching and looking for what is still keeping Nnamdi Kanu in DSS custody, but Buhari and his security agencies won’t admit the truth. We are aware that he has been under intense pressure to explain the role of his government over the illegal abduction and extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria of a British citizen.

“Buhari who openly and shamelessly stated that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should defend his matter in the court, that he is not interfering with judicial process has suddenly forgotten that he would not interfere in the matter before the court to now make statements intended to intimidate the judge who is handling this case, the global world should take note of Buhari’s meeting with Igbo leaders who visited him to demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“It is worthy and imparative for the global community to note that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never jumped bail as widely and consistently propagated and publicised in local, International and mainstream media by our enemies, instead Kanu by the strokes of luck managed to escape a well planned military invasion of his home which was intended and calculated to murder him in his fathers compound.

“As much as we knew, he was fully prepared to storm the court with at least two million people already mobilised from among his followers to accompany him to the next adjourned court date which incidentally was just some days before the military invaded his home to kill him and stop him from attending the court case. Buhari’s maximum Military (On land and Air) invasion of Afaraukwu for the assassination of Nnamdi Kanu was the only reason why he fled the country.

“The world leaders are watching Buhari and his court with keen interest and wants to know why Mazi Nnamdi kanu, an extraordinary renditioned victim is still unlawfully detained in DSS custody. From all correspondences at our disposal, attention is on Nigeria judiciary with regard to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s abduction in Kenya and extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria, his successful fundamental human right case in Umuahia and his British Citizenship, where a Federal High Court of competent jurisdiction gave a judgment that he ran away for his dear life and granted him one billion Naira (1b) conpesensation.

“The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2022) in Rwanda has exposed Buhari and his Fulani-controlled Government of Nigeria. What an international embarrassment despite the lavishly paid entourage he junkets with. It is so shameful that a poorly tutored president couldn’t help but fabricate lies and speak like a novice that he is to the disappointment of his handlers in a remarkable event as Chogm Rwanda 2022 just to spite Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB only to constitute an International embarrassment to Nigeria.”

UPDATED: Ekweremadu daughter kidney’s ‘donor’ 21 – NIS

The Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS) has clarified the man at the centre of the alleged transplant saga involving former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, Nwamini David Ukpo, is actually 21 and not 15 as alleged in many media reports.

The Comptroller General of NIS, Isa Jere, stated this in an ongoing engagement with editors.

Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested by The Metropolitan Police at the Heathrow Airports for alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting on Tuesday.

They were arraigned on Thursday Uxbridge Magistrates Court, which ordered their remand in police custody until July 7.

Many media reports had alleged Ukpo is 15 and not 21 as stated in a purported covering letter to the British Embassy by Ekweremadu.

But Jere said Ukpo’s date of birth as captured by the NIS after thorough verification is “12-10-2000. It is the same record on NPC and letter of indigeniship by Ebonyi Government submitted by the applicant.”

He said: “The attention of the Service has been drawn to the trending issue in connection with an alleged case of age falsification on a Nigerian Standard Passport issued by Nigeria Immigration Service to a Nigerian who is alleged to be at the centre of an investigation of the case of “organ harvesting”.

“The Service wishes to set the record straight by informing the general public that the suggestions that it did not properly vet the breeder documents issued by the applicant during his passport application are not only off the mark, but mere fabrications aimed at tarnishing the image of the Service.

“The facts of the matter concerning the case above, therefore, are that the said Mr. David Ukpo Nwamina applied and paid for the enhanced standard passport using the NIS portal after which he approached the Gwagwalada Passport Office, FCT Abuja, on the 2nd November, 2021 for his interview. To support his application, Mr. Nwamina presented all the necessary documents required, including his National Population Commission (NPC) issued Birth Certificate, showing 12 October, 2000, as his date of birth; his National Identity Number (NIN) corroborating the date of birth on his birth certificate, issued by NIMC; a letter of introduction issued by Ebonyi State Government Liaison Office situated at Maitama District Abuja, and a Guarantor’s form duly signed by one Mr. Uchechukwu Chukwuma Ogbonno.

“In view of the above, the general public may wish to be informed that the date of birth, or any other information for that matter, on any Nigerian passport is printed on the document only after a thorough vetting process that involves both physical and forensic examination of the applicant’s breeder documents. Mr. Nwamina’s case, therefore, was not different.

“While assuring of the Service’s commitment towards protecting the integrity of the passport, the Service wishes to cease this opportunity to appeal to the general public to desist from making such unfounded utterances as they are capable of denting the image of the Service.”

  • 2023: Wike’s silence unsettles PDP

    2023: Wike’s silence unsettles PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is worried over the silence of Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, after humiliating him out of the race for a running mate to the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

It was gathered that Wike’s unusual silence has unsettled the party and kept leaders of the PDP guessing his next line of action.

The PDP was said to be more confused following Wike’s decision to keep his next strategies close to his chest despite receiving high-profile visitors from the PDP.

Unlike the outcome of the presidential primaries when Wike returned and lampooned his colleagues from the South for betraying the region’s quest to produce the next President, the governor had chosen to remain quiet after suffering what many observers referred to as public ridicule in the process that led to the choice of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as Atiku’s running mate.

The Governor and his loyalists in the party were said to be pained that the party threw up a process designed to embarrass its strongest mobiliser.

They were unhappy that Atiku rubbed it in by publicly reeling out Okowa’s supposed qualities that made him a better choice than Wike without considering the feelings and the electoral capacity of the Rivers governor.

It was believed that Atiku had long chosen Okowa but merely dragged Wike into the race to create semblance of competition.

The silence of Wike over his treatment turned Rivers State to a Mecca of sort compelling high-profile visitors to consult with the Rivers Governor.

The presidential candidate of Labour Party(LP) Peter Obi; Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed; the presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, were among persons that had visited the governor.

Others are the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, Minority Whip, Senator Chukwuka Utaxi, Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Shuaibu Lau, Senators Danjuma Laah and Barry Mpigi.

Even a former Niger Delta Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe, who recently dumped the PDP and a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, visited Wike.

They all separately met with Wike behind closed doors.

There were unconfirmed reports that the Rivers Governor might hold private meetings with the APC governors, APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari.

A chieftain of PDP, Ogbonna Nwuke, said the calibre of the visitors was an indication that Wike had come of age in national politics.

He said: “It is also a proof that Governor Wike has potential not just to be a national player but also someone, who has the political capacity to influence events around him.

“Secondly, those, who are coming from the PDP is admittance that some injustice had been done to somebody, who had worked tirelessly to build the PDP. Some value had been placed on his participation and contributions by the PDP and it is an attempt to get him to stay in line”.

Nwuke, however, said the governor had promised not to leave the PDP and had done nothing suggesting that he was on his way out of the party.

He said: “Frankly, the visit has turned Port Harcourt into a kind of Mecca and has proven that out of Rivers State something good can happen. It shows that the Rivers State has come of age and you cannot undermine the contributions of Rivers to national development.

“I am proud of the fact that Wike has proven to be a man. When you look at the convention, you will find that he was not disgraced. If not for the last moment rally by the North, Wike would have won that primary election. He is not humiliated. He is focused and that is why you see these visitors coming”.

On why Rivers was particularly pained by the way PDP handled the issue of Atiku’s running mate, Nwuke said: “At the beginning if we want to be sincere, Wike had no interest in the Vice-President.

“He had said it. But they kept on nudging him and making the point that the party would rather fly with him. In some high level conversations that took place prior to the announcement of a running mate, all the indicators were that Wike’s partnership with Atiku would benefit the party.

“For the avoidance of doubts, the flag bearer has the responsibility in choosing his running mate, but the rigmarole was not necessary. He should have just done what he wanted to do. If you read Atiku’s speech while picking Okowa, you would begin to imagine what kind of thought was going through his mind. That speech left itself with many interpretations.

“Rivers has taken note of it and there is a Kalabari proverb that says nobody eats hot yam in a hurry. We are looking up to our leader because he knows that he can take the right decisions. We are hopeful all will be well. He has many more years ahead of him and he has proven that with his eyes focused on national interest, he could help lift Rivers and national interests as well.”

Nwuke wondered why the silence of the governor was disturbing the party and lampooned a former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, for saying that Wike “talks too much”.

Describing Aliyu as a man without electoral value, Nwuke said: “Governor Wike talked because there was need to build strong opposition in the country. He talked because there was need to lift PDP from defeat. Buy people, who did nothing and wanted to be seen as local heroes opened their mouths and talked anyhow”.

  • Ekiti 2022: BAO’s Benign Beats!

    Ekiti 2022: BAO’s Benign Beats!

Sagacious steps of savvy strategists are mysterious and marvelous to many around them as they could somewhat or somehow exhibit enigmatic tendencies in maneuvering their ways forward and upward in the scheme of things. Elin Peer, a passionate and prolific American writer, originally born in Denmark, was such an enigmatic personality having traversed several places and savoured the allure of nature as an explorer herself. She globetrotted traversing the Asian jungle where she rode on elephants; she sauntered through the scorching sun of the Sahara on camel’s back; she explored as a tourist sailing down the Nile in the ancient country of Egypt; back home in the United States of America (USA), inside hovering helicopters over Greenland,  she grinned at the work of nature while reveling athe quiet and noiseless creative power of the Almighty that is beyond human comprehension. Therefore, she was in a vantage position to simply and squarely surmise her perception of nature in a salient but succinct statement: “a seed
grows with no sound, but a tree falls with huge noise. Destruction has noise, but creation is quiet. This is the power of silence …”

It is instinctive and instructive to initiate this week’s edition of the “Followership Challenge” quoting Elin Peer. Is it coincidental? The researcher’s instinct inherent in this columnist stirred up his curiosity. I viewed, even until the time of writing this piece, the WhatsApp status of the Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), and it was akin to the statement of Elin Peter as quoted above. It could therefore be summarily surmised or stated that in the epic but supposedly surreal political battle of 18 th June 2022 in Ekiti, BAO’s camp before and during the election was noiselessly composing, creating and crafting critical winning sagacious strategic steps that outsmarted the opposing political camps.

As an ethnographic researcher, I was once again, like I did in the past two consecutive gubernatorial elections (June 2014 and June 2018), present in Ekiti State to perform my civic duty as a “son of the soil”. I have written and stated saliently in virtually all my appearances on prime airtime (Channels TV, TVC News and Arise TV) that some of our political problems would be solved if the mass of elites, making up the followership, within our polity, refuses to be
alienated or docile in the political process. However, the trend is changing, even though we still have a long way to go as many elites even though formally educated need to be enlightened politically! This columnist was opportune to engage Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (popularly called BAO) before the election of 18 th June 2022. In a one-on-one interaction with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), BAO, published in the Nation of Sunday, 12 th June 2022, he succinctly stated his Unique Value Proposition (UVP) that gave him so much upbeat that he would unsettle any opponent at the poll. This columnist as an ethnographic researcher (type of an inquirer within a scene conducting an investigative study and yet making his activities covert), was at my polling unit within my ward and equally moved round to observe happenings. Moreover, phone calls and text messages were used intermittently to decipher on-
goings at other towns within Ekiti State. It is remarkable to state that the election having been
convincingly won with a wide margin of almost 105,000 votes by Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of
the APC, there is the need to pinpoint some seemingly quiet, quirky and queer moves of the
ruling party in the state in plotting their winning while downing the supposedly noisy highflying
kite posture and positioning of the duo of Engr. Segun Oni, of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) and Chief Bisi Kolawole, of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

Oyebanji: Sagacious strategic steps to the saddle!
There were indeed sagacious strategic steps, albeit benign, that the camp of BAO took that beat
his strident competitors’ hands down! It is worth stating here for the umpteenth time even as
some analysts who possibly were ignorant of behind-the-scenes strategies of APC ascribed
BAO’s victory at the polls to vote buying or selling. It is both misplaced and mischievous to
disparage or denigrate the hard-won victory of BAO in such an indecorous and inglorious
    fashion.
At the outset of the campaigns, incessant and unceasing house-to-house canvassing by APC
members in all units of the 177 wards of Ekiti State was a unique and uncommon winning
strategy. This method ensured members were well mobilized before the election akin to

evangelism and follow-up methodology of the church in winning converts. This was evident in
my hometown, Ido Ekiti, headquarter of Ido Osi LGA.

However, it could not be jettisoned that SDP had sympathy of retired public servants and
disgruntled serving public servants clamouring for prompt payment of pensions and gratuities as
if that is an achievement by any government. To this essayist, is it not the responsibility of an
employer to pay her employees while simultaneously enhancing the growth of the organisation
should be the former’s feat? This group was fixated with a firm purpose to vote for SDP
candidate, Engr. Segun Oni. This explains the large votes recorded in Ado Ekiti, the state capital,
where many retirees and dissatisfied serving public servants were domiciled.
Moreover, it should be pinpointed that SDP seemingly has an imaginary crowd making
vociferous and vehement remarks of disallowing continuity, specifically on social media.
However, the reality on ground is that the ruling party in the state, APC, has the real people with
well-oiled structure in all the units of the 177 wards in Ekiti. In Nigeria’s context, any politically
discerning analyst knows that any party with strategic direction possessing strong structure leads
    in the polls.
In addition, it is both remarkable and reassuring to highlight that of all the major candidates in
the gubernatorial election of 18 th June, 2022, BAO stood out with a well articulated and widely
publicised manifesto containing the Six Strategic Actionable Pillars. It is on record that until the
wee hours to the election that few came up with hurriedly packaged programmes, BAO, in
conjunction his team, unveiled his well targeted and tailored manifesto to cheering party
members in an epoch-making event held at the famous Adetiloye Hall, Ado Ekiti. This columnist
witnessed and wrote about the 6 strategic actionable pillars. It is expected that these 6 pillars will
be situated on the solid foundation laid by the incumbent administration of Dr. John Kayode
Fayemi. Thus, Ekitikete could decipher what to expect from him, which in turn will make his
government responsive and accountable to the well-informed people of Ekiti State.

In another vein, the once invincible and indomitable opposition party in Ekiti, the PDP, is now
living in past glory. Leadership speaking, things have fallen apart in the party. It is known within
the Ekiti context of the umbrella-symbolled party that once the head of a fish is rotten, what use
is the body? Thus, PDP in approaching the June 18 election was apparently lethargic, laidback

and lackadaisical as the campaign progressed with a glaring apathy from the national body of
PDP towards her candidate’s success in the gubernatorial election in Ekiti State. The PDP
presidential flag bearer was conspicuously absent while no serving Governor showed up to drum
up support for the candidacy of Chief Bisi Kolawole. There was a seeming perceptible
    disconnect somewhere!

The political climate for the SDP in Ekiti State, a few months to the 18 th June election, was
strongly upbeat as there was a seeming unwritten accord between the SDP and South West
Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) – a splinter group within Ekiti APC drumming support for
Asiwaju’s presidency. There was a make-believe that Asiwaju was favourably disposed to the
Engr. Segun Oni’s candidacy and that once Asiwaju Tinubu falls out with the cabals in APC as
the consensus contraption would be sold out eventually, Tinubu would cross-carpet to SDP as
the presidential flagbearer. That was a pipe dream that died on the 8 th of June 2022 when Asiwaju
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, against all political pundits’ perceptions, emerged as the party’s flag bearer
for the 2023 presidential election. Thereafter, the SDP in Ekiti were jittery as the fortunes of
winning the election was fatefully fainting and forlorn!
Eventually, to worsen the woes of the SDP in the 18 th June election, aftermath of the 8 th June
2022 APC Convention held in Abuja where the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, stepped
down in an unexpected move for the candidacy of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, political
analysts saw the handwriting on the wall and that singular strategic step taken by Fayemi
inadvertently brightened Oyebanji’s chances of emerging convincingly victorious at the election.
Furthermore, against all permutations, Asiwaju Tinubu, APC presidential flag bearer,
representing President Muhammadu Buhari, was in Ekiti State to candidly and convincingly
campaigned for BAO of APC thus burying any perceived accord between SDP/SWAGA. The
National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, was not left behind, coupled with the
massive support from all the APC Governors. Anyone still wondering how APC’s candidate,
Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), won with such a wide margin?

Lessons Learnt in the Ekiti gubernatorial election
In concluding this piece, I would make a recourse, as a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

(MEL) scholar, to a core and critical component of MEL referred to as “Lessons Learnt.” It is
simply and squarely stated: “what works; what does not work; and why does it not work?”
Personally, and as adjudged by many other observers and analysts, the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) has improved and deserves a credit rating compared with the
conduct of previous elections. This is in sync with the stand and stake of the United States (US)
Mission to Nigeria commending INEC and the security officials on the peaceful conduct of the
election in Ekiti State. There was no incidence of loss of life, limb or property on the day of the
election. There are two things that are worth highlighting. One, despite all the campaigns, the
total number of voters fell short of the 2018 gubernatorial election by more than 42,000 votes!
This is not encouraging!! Should not the government give incentives to encourage future
participation in elections? Surely, a subject of discussion for another day! Two, the INEC staff in
my polling unit were so strict as my wife was not initially allowed to vote due to the electronic
device not capturing her finger print. She was told to return to repeat the process. She returned
and it was the same thing. Subsequently, face identification, utilizing INEC’s electronic device,
was resorted to before casting her vote. This ought to have been done the first time she showed
up as a handful of accredited voters who encountered the same experience never returned!
Lesson learnt: after the collation and counting: there was a tie among two most popular parties in
my unit. Supposing my wife did not return to vote, someone would have boasted of winning his
unit for the party with many not asking by how much margin? Afterall, winning is winning!
Democracy is a game of numbers. Meaning: votes are counting! Hence, prepare to be counted by
voting in the 2023 elections: your vote matters!! It is your voice politically!!!

There are many things to learn and opportunities to benefit from the millions of global users on the platform. It’s one of the best places to showcase your skills, products and services. One can easily become a thought leader in any area of expertise he or she tweets on regularly.

However, there are many things users need to beware of to avoid misuse of the app. Every freedom demands a sense of responsibility which users are expected to exercise.

This article was informed by my worry over how many on Twitter are quick to tweet about issues without having enough information on them. They pontificate and make all kinds of accusations on impulse.

As if to confirm my concern, I read a tweet by a lady saying she has deleted her earlier tweet on a breaking issue because of more information from reliable sources that suggests she might have been hasty.

To avoid the abuse of the freedom and opportunities offered by Twitter, below are the reasons I think everyone should beware of how they use the app.

    * You don’t have to tweet about every issue, especially the ones you don’t have enough information on and is just unfolding. It’s better to just read and wait for full details to decide if to tweet on it or not.

There have been instances when some make false claims or share false information on Twitter which they apologise for.

Your misinformed tweet may be screen-grabbed before you delete it and be used against you somehow. Think before you tweet. The Internet does not forget.

    * Don’t be intolerant of other people’s views. You are entitled to yours, just as they are entitled to theirs. Make sure you think through your views on any issue, knowing you may be taken on by others who may want to fault your assertions.

Blocking people should not be your first option just because you can’t take the heat of others challenging your opinion or claims.

*Don’t be rude to people you should respect or anyone else just because you are on a free-for-all platform. Be civil and polite in your engagements and responses. Feel free to disagree with people, but don’t use any foul language you will regret later or may make others reading have a bad impression about you. You should care about the image you project through your online engagements.

    * Don’t be carried away by the accolades of followers who may be urging you on even when you may be wrong or overstating your point. Know when to back out or exercise restraint on any issue that is generating sometimes unnecessary controversy online.

    * Avoid using Twitter to get at people you have any misgivings about. It may backfire when people get to know more than you are saying or the accused person fights back more than you expect. Some secrets you think people are not aware of may surface in the heat of the cross-fire “gbas gbos”

*Avoid the temptation of wanting your name or the issue you are promoting to trend for the sake of it. Being popular is not the same as being notorious or being an attention seeking-person.

*Don’t be too focused on getting followers online by pushing narratives that may not be correct or flooding people’s timelines with your tweets when you don’t have to. Having a large following is not necessarily a measure of how good you are on a platform where some buy followership one way or the other.

*Don’t claim to be what you are not. Sooner or later you may be exposed for who you truly are. Being on Twitter is not supposed to be a competition about who is the best at anything. Let the content you share speak for you and determine how you should be perceived.
