The Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has fixed the sum of N2.6million as the initial deposit for the 2023 holy pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Chairman of the Board, Prof. Sayed Malik made this known at the Hajj Camp, Olodo Ibadan, saying that the amount was fixed pending the announcement of the actual fare by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Malik said the Board would give priority to the 150 intending pilgrims who were promised slots, but could not perform last year’s Hajj exercise due to the limited seats allocated to the state.
He urged intending pilgrims with the State Pilgrim Welfare’s Board for this year’s exercise to start paying the stated amount into any of the designated Bank Accounts of the Board.
While informing the Board’s members about the critical issues and other important matters relating to the 2023 Hajj Operation discussed during the first Pre-Hajj visit to Saudi Arabia, Malik said NAHCON had allocated 1441 seats to Oyo State for this year’s Hajj exercise.
Recalled that NAHCON along with States’ Chairmen and Secretaries of Muslim Pilgrim’s Welfare Boards across the country recently arrived from Makkah where they embarked on a Pre-Hajj discussion with the Saudi Arabian authority.
Police detectives of the Imo State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department have nabbed a self-proclaimed prophet, Osinachi Makuo (34) of Ehime Mbano Local Government Area (LGA), Imo State for the alleged attempted murder.
The police also arrested one Mrs. Nwabueze Maria (50) of Umuekwe Mgbidi in Oru West LGA, Imo State for allegedly conspiring with Makuo to commit the offence.
According to the police the duo conspired to abduct and cause grievous bodily harm to and also attempted to murder the only son of Maria’s ex-husband.
The arrest followed a petition of conspiracy, abduction, attempted murder/grievous bodily harm written to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, by one Ike Ezenyi of Umuehi Mgbidi in Oru West, the father of the victim, Ikenga Ezenyi ‘m’ aged 24yrs against the suspects.
Parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters, Owerri on Saturday, Police Commissioner (CP) Ahmed Barde said on receipt of the petition he promptly ordered a comprehensive investigation of the matter.
“The intelligent and curious detectives quickly swung into action and apprehended the suspects while the cohorts of the self–styled prophet are still at large,” he said.
According to him, an investigation revealed that both suspects allegedly conspired and abducted Ikenga Ezenyi, took him to a Holy Sabbath Mission at Uzunamu Mgbidi in Orlu L.G.A for prayers and deliverance where both of his hands were tied to a tree for three days and his feet chained. “The suspects equally tortured the victim severely in the most inhuman conditions till both of his palms were swollen, rotten and flesh ruptured before he was rescued by his father and youth of Uzunamu Community and taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
The victim’s hands were said to have been subsequently amputated at the hospital to save his life.
The CP said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
The police boss cautioned Imo residents to be mindful of criminals who operate in disguise as prophets, prophetesses, prayer warriors, and healing homes to commit heinous crimes.
Barde also vowed to uncover all crimes of similar nature in the state; he equally encouraged residents not to hesitate in reporting abnormalities of similar nature and all other kinds of crimes to the police
Three policemen were on Friday shot dead by yet-to-be identified gunmen in Ihaila, Anambra State.
The deceased, attached to the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD), Delta State Police, were said to be on official assignment en route to Abia State when they were killed.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu said the bodies of the officers had been recovered, adding that efforts were on to track the suspects.

“The officers came under attack and their vehicle was set ablaze by yet unidentified armed men.
“Information reveals that the Policemen were identified as officers attached to Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD), Delta State Police Command and on official assignment en route to Abia state.
“Efforts are currently ongoing in tracking the armed men that committed this act. Further details shall be communicated, please.”

“Local government are just existing in number, they do not have any power to do anything.”

Allo said: “People are now taking malaria to UCH. Something that should be treated at the primary healthcare centres, because local governments are not functioning.”

In a report by TimesLIVE, ALS paramedic Garrith Jamieson explained that just after 10.15pm this evening they responded to a shooting incident where two men sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
