Court dismisses suit seeking to quash Senator Adeola’s ‘voter registration transfer’

A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta has dismissed a suit challenging the transfer of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola‘s voter registration from Idimu in Egbeda; Lagos West Senatorial District to Ilaro in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State.

The suit was filed by Muideen Olamilekan Akintande against Senator Adeola and three others before justice J.O AbdulMalik.

Muideen Olamilekan Akintande had in the suit marked: FHC/AB/CS/152/2022, approached the Court, asking it to declare as unlawful and void, the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to facilitate the transfer of Adeola’s voter registration to Ogun State instead of the initial Idimu in Egbeda, Lagos State.

Three others – the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ogun State, INEC and the APC were also dragged to Court along with Senator Adeola.

Adeola, who is representing Lagos West in the 9th Senate, is also the All Progressives Congress(APC) senatorial candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District in the February 25 National Assembly election.

Akintande predicated his suit, ‘FHC/AB/CS/152/2022’ on the premise that at the time INEC and its officials approved the transfer of the voter registration of Senator Adeola from Idimu, Lagos State to Ilaro in Ogun State, the senator was still a resident and residing in Lagos West Senatorial District while also serving as a sitting Senator representing Lagos West in the National Assembly.

The court dismissed the case for lacking merit, and the presiding Justice J.O AbdulMali awarded a cost of N6million against the plaintiff.

BBTitans: 22 housemates to participate in ‘cooking’ third wager task

This week’s wager task is to host a traditional meal via a cooking show.

On Monday, January 30, Big Brother called on BlaqBoi, the Head of House into the diary room to relay instructions about this week’s wager task, and there was a quick split decision among housemates on the percentage. They settled on 75%.

Blaqboi read the wager task to the housemates, who seemed to be excited – one of the happy consequences of the task is food, and lots of it. And some food for thought. Just as well: There was some tension in the house this morning as nobody is that thrilled about eating noodles for breakfast.

The task is that the housemates cook a three-course meal (a starter, main meal and dessert) that combines Nigerian and South African flavours. It should be cohesive and it is to be presented via a cooking show, with a dressed table, presenters, chefs and sous chefs.

They will be given a chance to order ingredients and props by the end of Monday, but there’s no guarantee that these will be satisfied by Biggie. Should the housemates win the task, the 75% percent will be added onto their shopping budget. If they lose, that percentage will be deducted.

The housemates quickly and eagerly put their heads together to decide on meals, but there were many cooks and many opinions. A few felt that certain traditional meals could not be remixed.

On the suggested recipe list so far are egusi soup, kota, dombola, magwinya, jollof rice, yam, pork trotters and even sheep’s head.

No single administration can solve Nigeria’s challenges – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said no single government can solve Nigeria’s problems.

Buhari said the country can only be out of the woods through the efforts of various successive governments.

The President said this during the state of the national dialogue on security, economy and administration of justice organized by the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja,

Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, lauded the NBA for the dialogue, which he said would contribute to the development of the country.

He said lawyers have a responsibility to ensure the smooth running of the country.

He said: “ I would say no one government in this country would be able to solve the problems of Nigeria. But as we build on the precedent set by successive governments, not discarding completely what has been put in place, we would in the course of our desire to build a Nigeria of our dreams, be able to pick one or two things, on which we can concentrate and move.

”As a government, the outcome of this dialogue can be transmitted to us so that whatever resolutions are reached, that would become part of the documents that would prepare as we transit and hand over to an incoming government.”

Kebbi Governor Atiku Bagudu, said there was a need to address the root causes of insecurity in the country.

He said a major way to achieve this was fixing primary education in the country.

He said most of the challenges of insecurity were a result of the breakdown of the social contract towards the people.

He urged that more be invested in primary education to turn the situation in the country around.

He said in developed countries, as much as $27, 000 is spent on a child, while in Nigeria, due to the challenges of resources, even the richest state, Lagos, is spending less than N300 per pupil.

New notes: CBN insists on Jan 31 deadline

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Saturday affirmed its January 31 deadline for the validity of the old 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes.
The apex bank has been under pressure from Nigerians, including no fewer than two lawsuits, for an extension of the date.
But it insisted via its verified Twitter page, that the January 31 date is unchanged.
The bank re-tweeted a video of CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, from the just concluded Monetary Policy Committee meeting, insisting on the deadline.
Quoting from a report, Emefiele said: “It says ‘reports suggest that many people want the deadline to be shifted for reasons ranging from their inability to gain access to the new notes or deposit their old currencies.
“I must say here that unfortunately, I don’t have good news for those who feel we should shift the deadline, my apologies.

“The reason is that just like the president has said on more than two occasions and even to people privately, that for us 90 days, in fact, we feel 100 days is enough for anybody who has money or the old currency to deposit it in the banks. And we took every measure to ensure that all the banks were open and are still open to receive all old currencies. 100 days, we believe, is more than adequate.”
The CBN on October 26, 2022, announced its plan to redesign the three banknotes. The president unveiled the redesigned N200, N500 and N1,000 notes on November 23, 2022, while the apex bank fixed the January 31 deadline for the validity of the old notes
