The total crude oil and condensate Nigeria produced in 2025 was 19.66million barrels per day (mb/d), The Nation learnt on Tuesday.

This was contained in the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) document titled: “Crude oil and condensate production 2025.”

The document also revealed average crude oil and condensate produced in the year under review was 1.63mb/d.

In December 2025, the report said Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate output was 1.54mb/d.

NUPRC revealed that only crude oil production was 1.42mb/d, representing 95 per cent of the 1.5mb/d quota approved for the country by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The report said, “The average crude oil production represents 95 per cent of OPEC quota of (1.5mbpd).”

NUPRC added that in December 2025, crude oil and condensate production was 1.54mb/d.

Ekiti 2026: INEC lifts ban on public campaigns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has lifted the ban on public campaigns following the release of the final list of candidates for the June 20, 2026, governorship election in Ekiti State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, announced this on Tuesday while addressing political party leaders and other stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Omoseyindemi said public campaigns would commence on January 21, 2026, and end at midnight on June 18, 2026, urging political parties to strictly comply with the approved campaign period and timelines.

He formally presented the final list of 12 governorship candidates and their running mates, noting that the process followed the conclusion of party primaries, submission of nomination forms, and resolution of complaints arising from the nomination exercise, in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

According to him, the publication of the final list marks the beginning of a critical phase of the electioneering process, and political actors must conduct their campaigns with maturity, restraint, and strict adherence to the law.

While reaffirming the right of political parties and candidates to campaign freely, the INEC boss warned that such activities must be carried out in compliance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the commission’s guidelines.

He reminded political parties of the need to notify the INEC, security agencies, and other relevant authorities ahead of rallies and campaigns, stressing that such was necessary to ensure adequate security and prevent breakdown of law and order.

Omoseyindemi also cautioned political parties and candidates against the use of hate speech and inciting comments, warning that such conduct could inflame tensions and undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

The REC urged political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns and healthy competition, rather than resorting to personal attacks or statements capable of provoking violence.

Omoseyindemi said any act of violence, intimidation, or breach of public peace would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would be sanctioned in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.

Following the lifting of the ban on public campaigns, the ruling All Progressives Congress expressed confidence ahead of the poll, hinging its optimism on Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s impressive performance since assuming office.

The APC state Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, said that the party would campaign on the governor’s record in governance, infrastructural development, workers’ welfare, and political stability in the state, which he believed has earned Oyebanji widespread acceptance among Ekiti people.

Dipe expressed confidence that the APC-led administration’s achievements in office would translate into electoral victory for the party and a renewed mandate from the people.

The party spokesman assured that APC would adopt issue-based campaigns and avoid inflammatory rhetoric, noting that peaceful engagement with the electorate remained central to its strategy.

But, the African Democratic Congress, the leading opposition party, dismissed the ruling APC, insisting that Ekiti residents were increasingly dissatisfied with the Governor Oyebanji-led administration in the state.

The party’s state Secretary, Chief Segun Adewumi, alleged that the APC had failed to meet the expectations of the people, accusing Oyebanji of poor performance in key areas affecting the daily lives of residents.

Akinwumi said that he was confident that the growing dissatisfaction across the state would translate into support for its candidate, Ambassador Dare Abejide, at the polls.

The party’s scribe added that Ekiti voters were ready to use the ballot to “punish” the APC for what it described as years of underperformance and to chart a new political direction for the state.

Mavin, French Embassy, Sacem launch AFROCROISER

Mavin Records, the French Embassy in Nigeria, and Sacem have jointly announced an unprecedented collaboration between French and Nigerian composers with the launch of AFROCROISER, an international initiative designed to grow music composition.

Designed as a platform for collaboration and artistic experimentation, AFROCROISER brings together songwriters from both countries to create music collectively while fostering cultural dialogue between two influential global music scenes.

The first edition, which kicked off on January 18 and will run till January 25, 2026, was held at Mavin Records Studios in Lagos, with the participation of renowned French and Nigerian composers.

Funded by the Création Africa program of the French Embassy, AFROCROISER offers an intensive week of music creation, exchange, and collective work. Over seven days, participants will combine their creative worlds to explore new musical forms and new ways of working.

On the French side, a rigorous selection of Sacem-affiliated composers from diverse musical backgrounds (pop, afro-pop, shatta, chanson, and more) who have collaborated with French and international artists such as Aya Nakamura, Gims, Booba, Vianney, Indochine, Jul, as well as Jason Derulo and Major Lazer, has been assembled: Dany Synthé, Julio Masidi, Ozhora, PSK, Renaud Rebillaud, Seysey, Shannon, and Voluptyk.

On the Nigerian side, the camp will welcome composers behind some of the biggest global Afrobeats hits such as “Calm Down” and “Dumebi” by Rema, “Rush” by Ayra Starr, and “Unavailable” by Davido: Mbryo, Andre Vibez, Magixx, Bayanni, Kold AF, Elestee, Deeno, Milar, Ragee, and Ozedikus.

For the first time, talents will collaborate to explore new artistic directions at the intersection of Nigerian Afrobeats and French pop. The works created during the songwriting camp may be pitched from the Mavin Records label, including Rema and Ayra Starr, and leading artists from the French music scene.

Looking to build a lasting bridge between two music industries, the Nigerian music scene is currently enjoying unprecedented international influence and plays a central role in redefining global pop music. At the same time, French artists benefit from strong international recognition and have maintained close musical ties with the African continent for several years.

AFROCROISER brings together two key music ecosystems: one driving music in Africa, and the other that serves as a pillar of francophone markets. The objective is clear: to foster sustainable, organic, and artistically ambitious collaborations between France and Nigeria.

Speaking, Senior Publishing and Licensing Manager, Mavin Records, Kizito Ahams, said, “Songwriting camps like AFROCROISER are critical to how global hits are shaped today. This initiative is as much about creative excellence as it is about knowledge exchange, how writers work, how they collaborate, and how value is fairly created and shared across borders. Bringing French Sacem-affiliated composers into the Mavin ecosystem creates a rare opportunity for cross-pollination that can lead to globally competitive works while strengthening professional standards on both sides.”

Director of International Development, Sacem, Akotchayé Okio, said, “Musical creation thrives on encounters between different worlds, cultures, and perspectives. With AFROCROISER, Sacem aims to offer French and Nigerian composers a space for freedom and dialogue at the heart of one of the most dynamic music ecosystems in the world. Following initiatives in Europe, Asia, and the United States, it felt natural to develop this project in Lagos, the beating heart of African music, alongside Mavin Records, a key player in Afrobeats, and the French Embassy in Nigeria, which has long supported cultural stakeholders in the country.”

Regional Music Attaché for Sub-Saharan Africa, Margaux Demeersseman, said, “Given the importance of our respective markets and the musical movements emerging from them, the connections between France and Nigeria have never been more obvious. Through AFROCROISER, our ambition is to build lasting relationships between composers and music publishing professionals from both countries. With Mavin and Sacem, we are bringing together committed partners to support this long-term vision.”

Jigawa Court jails nine herders for farmland destruction, breach of peace

The Farmers Herders Special Court of Jigawa State, sitting in Dutse, has convicted nine herders and sentenced them to various prison terms for offences related to the destruction of farmlands and breach of public peace.

The defendants were found guilty on multiple counts under relevant provisions of the Penal Code Laws of Jigawa State, following a case instituted in 2023 by the Commissioner of Police.

Delivering judgment, the presiding Magistrate, Yusuf Rabiu Abubakar, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. He said the defendants were charged with offences including conspiracy, mischief by fire, damage to farm produce, and disturbance of public peace, contrary to Sections 97, 362, 332, 114, and 246 of the Penal Code.

The court noted that the offences were committed in Gayawa, Gurjiya, Kursa, and Tukuda forest areas in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

According to the magistrate, evidence before the court showed that the convicts jointly destroyed farm produce and farming implements across about 1,500 hectares of farmland, with losses estimated at over N700 million, affecting several farmers in the area.

He disclosed that the prosecution called 12 witnesses whose testimonies were found to be credible and convincing, while the defence failed to call any witnesses or present sufficient evidence to counter the allegations.

Consequently, the court sentenced each of the nine convicts to one month imprisonment on each count, with an option of a N10,000 fine per count.

In addition, the court ordered the payment of N500 million as compensation to the affected farmers, to be distributed equitably.

The convicts were also directed to jointly pay N500,000 to the complainants and another N500,000 to the Jigawa State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Engr. Auwalu Garba, as compensation for damage to the tractor tyres and a motorcycle during the incident.

Reacting to the judgment, Engr. Garba expressed satisfaction with the ruling, describing it as a deterrent to others.

He urged farmers and herders to remain law-abiding and peaceful, warning against encroachment into grazing routes and forest reserves, as well as taking the law into their hands under any circumstances.

In the video, Saidat expressed anger and disappointment towards her son.

Destiny Boy’s sister defended her mother, saying the video was taken out of context and only captured a family disagreement.

“I am Destiny Boy’s sister. I am seeing something that is going viral on TikTok and Facebook, where bloggers are writing about it. He fought with my mother. And my mum was talking to him so that he would listen to her and obey her”, she explained.

She questioned the allegations, asking, “Did you see it when Destiny’s mother killed her own son? Because you are cursing Destiny Boy’s mother now. Is it possible for a mother to kill her own child?”

She also dismissed claims linking Destiny Boy to money rituals, asking accusers to provide evidence.

“You also said he did a money ritual. Were you there when he did it?” she asked.

The mother, Saida, who spoke earlier, said Destiny Boy’s health issues began two years ago, and the family sought various treatments, keeping the illness private.

Oyo APC targets 350,000 members on final day of nationwide e-registration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has expressed confidence in the success of its ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration, targeting at least 350,000 registrants on the final day of the exercise.

The party at the national level recently flagged off the fresh registration across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The exercise, conducted electronically, is aimed at capturing the personal details of existing and new members in a comprehensive database to support party management, planning, and strategic operations.

In a statement, Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, commended party leaders and stakeholders for their collaboration in addressing challenges that had threatened the smooth and effective conduct of the registration process in the state.

He said, “We could not start the registration exercise on the same day with most of the state chapters because there were some challenges that revolved around logistics, supply, and a few other things. But we turned things around, and we were able to overcome all the challenges.

“They showcased the same form of energy and passion with which they facilitated the Open Air Stakeholders’ Meetings carried out in all 14 federal constituencies, and our Pacesetters status was restored.

“Other things being equal, our great Party would be able to boast of over 350,000 organic members at the end of the exercise on January 30, and the fear would be maximally used to facilitate the realization of our two core objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“In 2023, we delivered a total of 449,884 votes for President Bola Tinubu, and this time, we will raise it by about 40 per cent. Not only that, we will leverage our population strength to mobilize voters and reclaim power in the state in 2027.”

He urged all residents of the state across the nooks and crannies of the 33 local government councils in the state to take advantage of the registration exercise.

“Every resident who is 18 years of age and above should visit the registration centres with their National Identification Number (NIN), Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and other personal information details to get registered with a view to participating in all party activities as doing so would indicate their readiness to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu which is already working wonders for the country.”

Delta police arrest 11 murder suspects, 13 cultists, recover 11 firearms in 13 days — CP

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Adesola Aina, has stated that the operatives of the Command have arrested 11 murder suspects, 13 suspected cultists, one rape/defilement suspect, and recovered one vehicle in the last 13 days.

The Commissioner also said 11 firearms, 80 ammunition, and cartridges were recovered during the period.

CP Aina, who recently assumed office at the command, disclosed these at a press briefing on Tuesday to alert the public on some of the breakthroughs recorded by the Command within the period under review—January 8, 2026, to date.

He recalled that during his maiden Officers’ Conference, he directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to sustain the ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and black spots within their respective areas of responsibility.

Shedding light on the achievements recorded during the period, the police boss said on January 17, 2026, operatives of the CP–Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) acting on credible intelligence raided a suspected cultists’ hideout in a bush at Ughelli Town.

He said the suspects engaged the operatives in a gun duel but were overpowered and fled with gunshot injuries.

He said one suspect was arrested and later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The CP said a Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered, while efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects continue.

Similarly, the CP said on January 11, 2026, CP-SAT operatives in collaboration with community vigilantes foiled a planned kidnap operation at a criminal hideout in an uncompleted building along Upper Agbarho, Ughelli North LGA.

He said six suspected kidnappers opened fire on the operatives but were repelled and fled, abandoning their weapons.

According to him, recovered exhibits included one FNC rifle with one round of live ammunition and one pump-action gun with thirty-two live cartridges.

The CP equally said that in the course of proactive patrols on January 10, 2026, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested Gift Ojulowo (male, 30 years) at Hausa Market, Ubeji, after he attempted to flee with other suspected hoodlums.

He noted: “A search led to the recovery of one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed on him. The suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity cult group.

“Also on January 19, 2026, operatives of the Raiders Unit, acting on intelligence, arrested suspected criminals at Isheagu and Ogwashi-Uku. Two suspects, including Odinaka David, were arrested with the recovery of one double-barrelled gun and six rounds of live cartridges, while Joy Ezeni (female, 45 years) was arrested with one hundred wraps of weed suspected to be loud.

“In related operations, operatives of the Raiders Unit on 8 January 2026 arrested Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso (male, 43 years) in possession of thirty-six bottles of Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas), while the same day, police at Ogwashi-Uku Division arrested Aliyu Haman (male, 20 years) for allegedly stabbing his brother to death while asleep at Poly Road near Adaigbo Filling Station.

“The murder weapon was recovered, and investigations into both cases are ongoing.”

The Commissioner further said, “I would like to speak on the growing rate of murder cases and drug abuse amongst our youths, the death recorded at Ogwashi-Uku was avoidable.

“The suspect is a chronic drug addict, and under the influence of drug abuse, he stabbed and killed his brother for no just cause.”

He warned that the Command under his leadership would not relent in the fight against sales and abuse of illicit drugs, as he had ordered massive raids across the 25 local government areas of Delta State to ensure that all drug cartels are brought down in the State.

NDLEA records 77,792 arrests, 14.8 million kg of drugs seized in five years – Marwa

    • …honours 166 NDLEA personnel, 17 Commands at bi-annual CCEO awards and commendation ceremony
    • …charges officers to go all out against drug cartels, barons

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), on Tuesday announced that the agency recorded 77,792 arrests—including 128 major drug barons—secured 14,225 convictions, and seized over 14.8 million kilograms of illicit substances in the past five years.

Marwa declared that the era of Nigeria serving as a haven for criminal drug enterprises is over.

He made the remarks during the 11th Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CCEO) Awards and Commendation ceremony held at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja.

The NDLEA chief urged officers to prepare for more tactically sophisticated operations against drug cartels, barons, and their mules in the next five years of his second tenure.

“When I first resumed in 2021, I promised to take the fight to the doorsteps of the merchants of death. Today, the numbers speak for themselves. Through our collective resilience, we have sent a clear message that Nigeria is no longer a haven for illicit drug enterprises.

“It’s therefore heart-warming to note that in the last five years, we recorded significant operational successes, including the arrest of 77,792 drug offenders, including 128 identified drug barons who were central to major trafficking networks. We seized a total of 14,847,486.34 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs, thereby significantly disrupting both local and transnational supply chains.

“In further strengthening the criminal justice response to drug offences, the Agency successfully prosecuted and secured convictions against 14,225 offenders, reinforcing deterrence and affirming that drug crime attracts consequences.

“In line with our balanced approach, the Agency also prioritised drug demand reduction. Through structured treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation programmes, 32,442 drug users received professional intervention. Additionally, 13,735 War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities were conducted across schools, motor parks, workplaces, worship centres, and communities, expanding preventive awareness and citizen engagement nationwide”, he said.

As he highlighted the results of the last half-decade drug control efforts of the Agency under his leadership, he noted that the achievements would not have been possible without the support of the executive, legislature and the judiciary.

Marwa expressed his profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unflinching support and the trust reposed in his leadership.

He said that the President’s decision to extend the current leadership’s mandate is a call to escalate the war against drug abuse and trafficking to new heights.

“These achievements are not accidental. They are the result of discipline, leadership, intelligence-led operations, and clear performance expectations. This journey would not have been possible without the unflinching support of the President. I therefore wish to express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the absolute trust he has reposed in my leadership and in the entire workforce of this Agency.

“Mr. President’s decision to extend our mandate is a call to more work. We assure him, and indeed all Nigerians, that the successes of the past five years are merely a foundation. In this second tenure, we will escalate the war against drug abuse and trafficking to new heights of efficiency and results”, he stated.

Addressing the officers, men, and women of the agency, Marwa said, “The next phase of our operations demands even more grit and more tactical sophistication. We will not rest until every drug baron is behind bars, every trafficker is intercepted, every mule is caught, and every single gram of illicit drug is removed from our streets and communities.

“There is no room for complacency. We must remain proactive, intelligence-led, and ruthless in our pursuit of those who seek to destroy our youth and our national security.

“Let me be clear: the objective of this Agency remains the total disruption of drug trafficking and the protection of our communities. The expectation is sustained pressure until every drug baron, trafficker, courier, and every gram of illicit drugs is taken out of our streets and communities. There will be no retreat and no complacency.”

The 11th CCEO Awards honoured gallant personnel who have demonstrated exceptional courage and integrity in the line of duty.

Marwa charged the awardees to see their plaques and certificates as reminders that their hard work is valued, while urging the rest of the force to find inspiration in their achievements.

“As we are all aware, the Commands Awards and Commendations is an internal reward mechanism that comes after our bi-annual appraisal. It is enshrined in our corporate culture and acts as a booster to individual and collective commitment to the attainment of organisational goals. I believe that everyone in this organisation agrees that we now have a sense of urgency towards our assignment.

“There is no gainsaying that our dedication to duty has been the driving force behind our good performance; at the same time, it is also not an exaggeration to say that our good performance is catalysed by motivation.

“As proven right by events in the past five years, management’s decision to deploy a multipronged motivational mechanism to improve the organisation’s work ethic is part of the recipe for the resurgence of the Agency and the resultant spectacular performance.  On that score, management is committed to doing everything possible to improve productivity on the job. Part of that effort is why we are here today.”

He equally acknowledged the critical role of international partners, sister agencies, civil society, and the media in the successes recorded so far, calling for even deeper strategic partnerships in the years ahead to protect the future of Nigerian children.
