Crisis rocks Atiku’s coalition-backed ADC in Ondo as ‘self-acclaimed’ chairman demands reinstatement

    • …accuses party’s national chair of alleged constitutional breach
    • …He was suspended for anti-party activities, says spokesman

The coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo state has been plunged into a leadership crisis following the demand by its suspended chairman, Olaide Ibraheem, for reinstatement as the authentic state chairman of the party.

Ibraheem, who claimed he was duly elected through a valid state congress, has also threatened to drag the party’s national leadership, sponsored by opposition leader Atiku Abubakar, to court should his demand not be met.

But the spokesman for the ADC in the state, Olurotimi Ebiola, has faulted Mr Ibraheem’s allegation, accusing him of anti-party activities.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Akure, Ibraheem said he emerged as the state chairman of ADC during a congress held on October 7, 2020, which he noted was conducted in the presence of some security agencies.

He argued that no other state congress had been held since his emergence, adding that he single-handedly funded the party’s activities in the state during his tenure due to the absence of political office holders or subventions from both the state and national level.

According to him, the affairs of the party were run strictly in line with the ADC constitution.

Ibraheem alleged that he was removed from office on November 28, 2024, by the National Chairman of the party, Mr Raphael Nwosu, in what he described as an “embarrassing and unconstitutional manner.”

He argued that the ADC constitution does not empower the National Chairman to remove a duly elected state chairman, accusing Nwosu of acting ultra vires by dissolving state and local government executives without due process.

“The action violated the principle of party supremacy as enshrined in Article 2 of the party’s constitution,” he said.

The embattled chairman said he initially refrained from making the matter public in the hope that party elders would intervene but lamented that no corrective steps had been taken.

He further accused the national leadership of ignoring Article 18 of the party’s constitution by failing to convene a congress before taking actions capable of throwing the Ondo State chapter into crisis.

Ibraheem warned that failure to reinstate him and other affected state and local government executives within 14 days would force them to explore other lawful means to seek redress.

He called on the national leadership of the ADC to urgently restore constitutional order to prevent a deeper internal crisis in the state chapter.

Reacting, the spokesman for the party in Ondo State, Olurotimi Eniola, dismissed Ibraheem’s claims, describing him as a former interim chairman who was expelled from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Eniola said Ibraheem no longer belonged to the ADC, adding that he lacked a valid membership card.

“He was truly a former interim chairman, but he was expelled by the national leadership for anti-party activities. After that, he left the party, and since then, two chairmen have come and gone.

“Up till now, he has not had a party membership card. If he wants to go to court, he is free to do so, but as far as the party is concerned, he is no longer a member,” Eniola said.

  • Nigerians to feel impacts of new spectrums opening before end of 2026, says NCC

Nigerians to feel impacts of new spectrums opening before end of 2026, says NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has provided further insights on the opening of two spectrum bands to deepen operations in the telecommunications industry and boost the digital economy.

Speaking with reporters shortly after the conclusion of the two-day Consultative Forum with Stakeholders at the Digital Economy Complex, Mbora, Abuja, on the opening of the Spectrum Roadmap 2025 to 2030, the Commission’s Head of Spectrum Administration, Atiku Lawal, said the infrastructure might be delivered before the end of this year.

He said that with the deployment of the infrastructures, digital communications activities in the industry would take an upward swing with the concomitant improvement in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He emphasised that the current stakeholders’ engagements are expected to bring about a robust roadmap for seamless experience, delivery of quality services, and expansion of networks through the use of satellite technology, among others.

Engr Lawal said, “What we are trying to do is to increase the spectrum resource capacities so that more investments and activities will come on board. If we attain high capacity, you have a better experience and better quality of service.

“So we are opening the bands, not only to improve the quality of service but also to allow for innovations as we see. Because it is not only the connection. All of us are making some bank transactions, we are doing some business other than just calling our relatives, I believe.

“So, to make sure that Nigerians become more productive, do a lot of businesses, innovations, think about health, and others.

“We have doctors in remote places, and they should actually connect from that village to the National Hospital, if possible in Abuja, to talk to a consultant without that consultant going into those remote villages.

“However, it cannot happen without the spectrum. So all these are what we are doing here. We come here to make sure we put more spectrum into the telecommunications sector of the industry.”

He said Nigerians would begin to experience the impacts of the Spectrum bands faster than expected.

“I cannot give time, but from experience, I can say that before the end of this year, you can see all these services are being used in the country,” he added.

Leadership dispute: Court dismisses Senator Anyanwu’s suit against INEC, others

A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit filed by a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as the party’s scribe.

Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the suit in a ruling on Tuesday after plaintiff’s lawyer, U.C. Njemanze‑Aku, applied to withdraw it.

Anyanwu had originally named INEC and a former Acting National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagun, as defendants in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/254/2025.

In a ruling on February 28, 2025, the court joined the PDP and other national executive members, including Sunday Udeh-Okoye, Dr Ali Odefa, and Setonji Koshoedo, as defendants

At the mention of the case on Tuesday, Njemanze‑Aku told the court that Anyanwu’s tenure as the PDP secretary expired in December last year.

The lawyer said she felt it was improper for a matter that had been overtaken by events to continue.

“In the interest of justice, I apply to withdraw this matter to save the time of the court,” he said.

Responding, lawyer to INEC, Akintayo Balogun, lawyer for INEC, said the suit “ought not to have been instituted in the first place.”

Balogun urged the court to dismiss the suit with a cost of N1million, a position that lawyers to other defendants agreed with.

Njemanze-Aku objected to the request for costs against the plaintiff, arguing that her decision to apply to withdraw the suit was so as not to waste the court’s time.

Ruling, said, “Since you have joined issues, I am going to dismiss this matter. The matter is hereby dismissed.

“The delay is not on any of the parties. The situation made it so. For this reason, I award no cost.”

LAWMA urges responsible waste disposal, backs circular economy

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has urged residents of the state to embrace responsible waste disposal practices, stressing that proper handling of waste is critical to achieving a cleaner, more liveable, and sustainable Lagos.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, made the call while featuring on Sunrise Daily, a flagship programme on Channels Television, where he spoke on the realities of waste management in a rapidly urbanising city and the shared responsibilities required to keep the state clean.

Gbadegesin said the authority had continued waste evacuation and management operations across the state, while strengthening routine collection services and persistently clearing identified flashpoints caused by indiscriminate dumping and poor waste handling.

He noted that such practices had continued to undermine progress in the waste management sector, adding that LAWMA remained committed to addressing the challenges through sustained operations and public sensitisation.

The LAWMA boss encouraged residents to adopt basic waste sorting practices, emphasising the importance of separating recyclable materials from general waste at the point of disposal.

According to him, sorting waste at source would improve collection efficiency, support recycling activities, and reduce pressure on landfill sites.

Gbadegesin also highlighted LAWMA’s increasing focus on recycling, stating that waste should no longer be viewed merely as refuse, but as a resource with economic value.

He said recycling initiatives would create employment opportunities, attract private sector participation and contribute to environmental protection.

Advocating a shift towards a circular economy, he explained that the approach, which promotes recovery, reuse, and recycling of materials, offers significant economic and business opportunities while reducing environmental impact, unlike the linear system of collection and disposal.

On enforcement, Gbadegesin reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to upholding environmental laws and ensuring accountability, disclosing that about 400 cases of environmental infractions were prosecuted in 2025.

He cited a recent case in which a man caught dumping waste indiscriminately was convicted and is currently serving a jail term.

He urged residents to support LAWMA’s enforcement efforts by shunning indiscriminate dumping and promptly reporting environmental violations, noting that citizens’ cooperation remains vital to maintaining cleanliness and order across the state.

Gbadegesin reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to strengthen waste management systems and promote a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Lagos State.

Tinubu congratulates Jumoke Okoya-Thomas on birthday, chieftaincy title

The President also felicitated with Okoya-Thomas on her forthcoming installation as the Otun Iyalode of Lagos, a chieftaincy title to be conferred by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akinolu, on January 24.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, President Tinubu described the honour as well-deserved, noting that it reflects Okoya-Thomas’s longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, public service, and support for traditional institutions in Lagos.

President Tinubu commended her consistent advocacy for increased women’s participation in politics and governance, describing her political career as marked by dedication, resilience, and service to the people of Lagos State.

According to the President, the conferment of the Otun Iyalode title is a fitting recognition of her efforts to uplift women and strengthen community leadership within the state.

  • We will continue to support Nigerian law school — Sanwo-Olu

We will continue to support Nigerian law school — Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Nigerian Law School, pledging sustained support for the institution, particularly its Lagos campus.

He gave the assurance while receiving the newly appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs. Olugbemisola Odusote, the first female to occupy the position, who led a delegation of senior management staff on a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.

Sanwo-Olu congratulated Odusote on her appointment, describing it as historic, well-deserved, and reflective of Lagos State’s long-standing culture of gender inclusion and support for women in leadership.

The governor assured the delegation of the state government’s readiness to continue supporting the Nigerian Law School, particularly the Lagos Campus, which he described as a place of pride and historical significance.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the acquisition of the 213 Bourdillon Road property, stressing that the pledge remains on course.

“I did make that commitment publicly, and we are still on track. That property speaks to the history of the Nigerian Law School, and it is important that the school does not lose it,” he said.

He acknowledged the critical role of staff welfare in achieving optimal performance in any academic environment and assured that efforts would be made to fast-track solutions to the accommodation challenges.

While noting the constraints posed by land scarcity and housing pressure in Lagos, the governor said the state would explore feasible options, including the possible allocation of some housing units being developed for judicial officers.

He added that discussions on land allocation for the Law School Cooperative Society would require further consultations, given the complexities surrounding land ownership in the state.

Sanwo-Olu assured the delegation that Lagos State would continue to partner with the Nigerian Law School to ensure the Lagos Campus remains a centre of excellence, expressing confidence that Odusote’s tenure would usher in innovation and fresh ideas.

Odusote expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its longstanding support for the Law School, especially in the area of infrastructure development.

She described the visit as her first official courtesy call since her appointment and an opportunity to formally appreciate the state government for its intervention in the renovation of a hostel block at the Degos Campus.

The Director-General drew the governor’s attention to the pressing accommodation challenges confronting staff of the Lagos Campus, adding that none of the staff currently enjoys official residential accommodation, a situation she said has continued to affect their welfare and productivity.

She recalled the governor’s commitment, made on December 16, 2025, to acquire the property at 213 Bourdillon Road, Marina—the historic site where the Nigerian Law School was originally established. Odusote described the property as a vital part of the institution’s heritage.

According to her, the property was lost following litigation, leading to the eviction of staff, an experience she described as traumatic, particularly as a new academic session is set to commence.

She appealed for the provision of temporary accommodation for affected staff pending the completion of donor-supported projects at the campus, stressing that adequate housing was essential to staff welfare, morale, and productivity.

Odusote also sought the governor’s intervention in allocating land to the Nigerian Law School Cooperative Society to enable staff who wish to build homes in Lagos to plan effectively towards retirement.

We’re committed to restoring peace in Plateau – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to restoring lasting peace and security in Plateau State and across the country.

The Army Chief gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Government House, Jos, as part of his operational tour of Army formations in the state.

According to a statement by the Army spokesperson, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the COAS noted that security challenges on the Plateau are complex but surmountable through sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing, and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

He said, “The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property. With all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable.

Governor Mutfwang lauded the sacrifices, professionalism, and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide, noting that despite being stretched by multiple deployments across the country, the Army has continued to rise to the occasion.

2027: Southern Kaduna group passes confidence vote on Tinubu, Uba Sani

The Southern Kaduna All Progressives Congress (APC) Unity Forum has passed a vote of confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

The group also declared its full support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, citing what it described as the administration’s consistent commitment to the growth and development of Southern Kaduna.

The forum, which comprises both long-standing and new APC members, reaffirmed its loyalty to the President and the governor, describing the party as united, focused, and expanding its influence across Southern Kaduna.

Addressing journalists on Monday, the chairman of the forum, Edward John Auta, said the APC remained firmly united under the theme, “One people, one party, one agenda.”

He said the gathering was aimed at reaffirming collective confidence in the renewed direction of the party under the inclusive leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

According to Auta, the APC has undergone significant transformation, overcoming earlier perceptions of exclusion and attracting increased federal and state government presence to Southern Kaduna.

“Major roads and social infrastructure are now receiving renewed attention, while federal presence in our zone has expanded significantly,” he said.

Auta cited the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, as concrete evidence of the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to the area.

“These are landmark institutions that reflect long-awaited federal attention to Southern Kaduna,” he added.

The forum also praised what it described as inclusive governance, noting that sons and daughters of Southern Kaduna now occupy strategic positions at both state and federal levels.

“Our people have been appointed to influential positions, including the Minister of Defence, the Head of Service of Kaduna State, and the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service. This clearly shows that Southern Kaduna is no longer excluded,” Auta said.

He said these developments had made the APC increasingly attractive, leading to the defection of prominent politicians and political structures from opposition parties.

“Distinguished leaders, including Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and other political heavyweights, have joined the APC with their supporters and structures,” he said.

According to him, the defections have significantly altered the political landscape of Southern Kaduna.

“The APC has now emerged as the party of choice in the zone, effectively ending the decades-long dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he stated.

Reacting to rumours of an impending implosion within the APC, Auta described such claims as baseless.

“These rumours are unfounded and amount to deliberate mischief or a misunderstanding of Governor Uba Sani’s unifying leadership philosophy,” he said.

He stressed that all APC members, both old and new, understood that personal ambition must remain secondary to collective interest and party stability.

Auta also defended Senator Katung’s loyalty to the party, noting that the lawmaker enjoys a cordial relationship with President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

“It is well known that Senator Katung holds the President and the Governor in the highest esteem and has consistently called for unity and collective effort within the party,” he said.

The forum cautioned against attempts to overheat the polity with issues that could be resolved internally, urging APC members to remain disciplined and focused.

In conclusion, the Unity Forum called on all party stakeholders to work towards the re-election of President Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

“United in purpose and guided by a shared vision, we are confident that the APC will emerge victorious at all levels,” Auta said.

  • Igboho urges Alaafin, Olubadan to unite against insecurity, development challenges

Igboho urges Alaafin, Olubadan to unite against insecurity, development challenges

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to work together to tackle insecurity in Yorubaland and advance development in the South West, rather than engage in disputes over positions.

Igboho said it was unnecessary for the two foremost traditional rulers, whose stools are central to the historical evolution of the Yoruba people, to expend energy on a crisis over leadership positions.

His appeal followed the ongoing tussle over the rotational chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs involving the Olubadan of Ibadanland, the Alaafin of Oyo, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Laoye Ghandi.

Governor Seyi Makinde had last Thursday inaugurated a new Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs in Ibadan, with the permanent chairmanship to rotate among the Olubadan, Alaafin, and Soun of Ogbomoso.

The inauguration, held at the House of Chiefs Hall, State Secretariat, Ibadan, was boycotted by Oba Owoade, while Oba Ladoja emerged as the inaugural chairman for a two-year term.

Makinde explained that the inauguration followed the passage of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendments) Bill, 2025, by the Oyo State House of Assembly, aimed at strengthening traditional institutions in the state.

The governor said the process was preceded by wide consultations, although Alaafin reportedly denied holding any interface with the governor on the matter.

Reacting, Igboho, in a statement, appealed to Yoruba leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, to help douse the tension arising from the controversy over the council’s permanent chairmanship.

He noted that ancient empires in Yorubaland had evolved into modern traditional institutions without distorting historical realities, and advised Oba Owoade, who is reportedly considering legal action, to cooperate with the Oyo State Government.

Igboho said traditional rulers should prioritise security and unity, particularly in the face of rising insecurity in the South West.

“Why should our royal fathers dissipate energy on positions when bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements have taken over our forests in the South West, considering the recent killings of guards in Old Oyo National Park and other parts of Oyo State?” he asked.

He added that it was critical for traditional rulers, regardless of hierarchy, to close ranks to protect Yoruba territorial integrity, foster unity, and promote sustainable development in the collective interest of the region.

According to him, traditional rulers must remain agents of cohesion, harmony, and economic growth, stressing that disputes over positions were ill-timed when rural communities, especially farmers, continued to suffer violent attacks.

  • Ijebu group canvasses Rep Kuye as next Awujale

Ijebu group canvasses Rep Kuye as next Awujale

The Ijebu Leadership Foundation has called for the appointment of a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Assets, Ademorin Alliu Kuye, as the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The call came as the Ijebu Traditional Council commences the process of selecting a new Awujale following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who ruled Ijebuland for 65 years.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the coordinator of the group, Keshiro Sulayman OluwaSesan, said Kuye, who represents the Somolu Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives, possesses the requisite qualities to occupy the revered traditional stool.

According to him, Kuye was born and raised within the royal tradition and was groomed under the mentorship of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, whom he described as a ruler of outstanding reputation and integrity.

“Throughout history, destiny and cultures have often placed the King at the center of the universe, not desperation and unnecessary social media full of propaganda. From him radiated all of existence.

“The ancient king represented the spiritual centre of the realm, as the intermediary between heaven and earth. Through his divine powers, the king brought order to the universe by reconciling opposite forces. Myths abound of kings battling evil demonic creatures and establishing order in chaos.

“One of the functions of an ancient king was to bless those whom they led. As intermediaries between the gods and earth, the king had the power to bless his people so that they might prosper, just as the late Awujale Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona did to Omoba Ademorin Kuye.

“In the Holy Spiritual Books, both the Qur’an and the Bible, we can read several accounts of the great patriarchs leaving a father’s blessing on their posterity before dying.

“We often associate ‘blessing’ with a religious act. While a man certainly accesses the King archetype by giving a father’s blessing to his children, just like Jacob and Isaac did, he can also bless others around him in other ways that aren’t necessarily religious.

“Simply recognizing and honouring others for their achievements is a way we can bless others. As we get older, we think we can take for granted the power that a kind word can have on a young person’s life. That’s the power of blessing in action, which uplifts and edifies others.

“Hon Prince Otunba Ademorin Alliu Kuye was well mentored, fortified, and blessed by his grandfather, who was a King from the Fusengbuwa and the immediate past Awujale of Ijebuland, late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona GCON, Anikilaya 1, Ogbagba II, Awujale Akile-Ijebu, which dignifies Prince Ademorin Kuye apart from his noble royal birth from two ruling houses among the four ruling houses in Ijebuland and among the other contestants for the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland.

Read Also: Next Awujale: Olowu commends Fusengbuwa house as kingmakers await nomination list

“Young men today are starving for blessing from older men, starving for blessing from the King energy. This is why they cannot, as we say, “get it together.

“They can’t be mixing a political contest and unnecessary social media with a culturally oriented and traditional contest. They need to be oriented, educated, mentored, and blessed.

“They need to be seen by the King, not read about kings in a published book or national newspaper, because if they are, something inside will come together for them. That is the effect of blessing; it heals and makes whole. That’s what happens when we are seen and valued and concretely rewarded for our legitimate talents and abilities.

“Unlike a king who creates and blesses others, the Tyrant seeks to destroy and tear down. Plagued by narcissism and desperation, he really does think that he sits at the centre of the universe. The Tyrant wrongly believes that power is finite; he has a scarcity mentality. He doesn’t understand the truth–that power and influence actually increase the more you share them with others.

“Thus, the burden of maintaining his fragile illusion of absolute power makes him very insecure; any threat to his authority and supremacy enrages him and causes him to lash out with abuse–physically, emotionally, or mentally.

“When the Tyrant isn’t viewing others as a threat and putting them in their place, he sees them as objects to exploit for his own gain; he is willing to push his friends, family, and employees under the bus to further his goals. We see the Tyrant manifest itself in this manner when businessmen further their own career at the expense of the people under their stewardship,” he said.

He said further thatIon Kuye was mentored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he served as Local Government Chairman when he (Tinubu) was Governor of Lagos State. He also served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state.

Kuye, the chairman of the House Committee on Public Assets, is one of the ranking Members in the 10th House of Representatives.

“We want to specially appeal to the Ilamuren of Ijebuland (the Afobajes), Ijebu-Ode Local Government Authority, Ogun State Government, and the good people of Ijebuland and nation, to please consider Omoba Ademorin Alliu Kuye, a dynamic progressive and core Ijebu Ambassador with values, full with meek and humility, a high sense of humour, and tremendous integrity that commands both international and national honour and respect, as the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

“As we grow older, wiser, and more in touch with the King’s characteristics, it is our responsibility as noble men to bless and assist younger men on their path to mature masculinity.

“We can also bless others by becoming a mentor because one of the reasons so many young men are struggling today is because they lack positive mentoring from great older men,” the statement said.
