He added: “Skills Challenge, they don’t want to take over, they just want to put fights which people want to see, in a way where people have to see it. They don’t want to be talking to that promoter, nah, nah, nah.

“Skills Challenge will call the fighter, ‘This is how much we’ve got for you on the table. This is how much we’ve got for the other fighter on the table. This is the date to fight in Saudi, do you want it, yes or no?’ There’s no, ‘What TV will it go?’ So when we pay the fighters, we own the rights to everything.”

Nigeria’s head coach Nduka Ugbade said the Golden Eaglets will be highly motivated for their TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter final tie against Burkina Faso in Algiers today , as victory earns them a ticket to the FIFA World Cup.

The Golden Eaglets have won the World Cup five times and qualified for 12, and are looking to go back to the global showpiece.

“This match will be important for us as it will qualify us for the World Cup. Burkina Faso has a really good team and we have played against them before and we experienced a very difficult match. We expect it to be the same in the quarter final,” Ugbade said.

The tactician added: “My message before the match to the players is that these competitions are usually intense, and I told them we must have the will and play the match as it should, and stressed that winning makes us qualify for the World Cup.”

Ugbade’s side finished second in Group B, with the matches played in Constantine, and have recently relocated to Algiers where the quarter final duel will be played.

Napoli jack up Osimhen’s price to N80.8 Billion

    • Nigerian ace in Paris to confer with agent
    • Bayern legend faults huge transfer to N80.8 Billion

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis (ADL) has reportedly decided upon a new set of conditions for the growing list of interested parties hopeful of landing star striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window after the Nigerian spent Tuesday morning conducting meetings with his agent in Paris.

According to Il Mattino, Osimhen has spent the last few hours in the French capital with his agent Roberto Calenda amidst strong interest from Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG.

The Parisians are not the only ones eyeing a move for the recently crowned Serie A champion, however, as interest from Bayern Munich as well as links to the Premier League, namely to Manchester United and cash-rich Newcastle continue to make headlines.

In order to convince Napoli to part ways with one of their star assets, a potential Serie A record-breaking fee will likely be required.

The Italian tabloid claimed De Laurentiis has increased the asking price for Osimhen to €160m in anticipation of a “bidding war” for the 28-goal centre-forward.

The ideal scenario for Napoli would be if Osimhen were to stay on board, which is still a possibility given that he has a contract valid until 2025 and that the club would like to offer him a new one on improved terms.

But Bayern Munich legend Oliver Khan has queried the huge transfer fee being demanded  by Napoli.

Osimhen has been on the radar of the  Bundesliga champion but the Managing Director of Bayern Munich believed there is no guarantee the  Nigerian ace  would deliver if he joins the team.

“We are thinking about the question of a striker,” he was quoted in an interview with Bil“ But we must not forget that we have scored 83 goals in the Bundesliga, more than any other team.

“It shows that our current team can score a lot of goals.

“ 150 million for Osimhen? We need to ask ourselves questions. With these sums, FC Bayern has to ask itself: Does the player give you guarantees for this money? It would certainly be a big risk,” Khan added.

    Industrialist gets NIP Fellowship

Chairman, Finlab Nigeria Limited, Chief Uzomah Nwaije has bagged the Fellowship award of the Nigeria Institute of Physics (NIP) at the institute’s 44th National Conference, which held at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, Lagos.

Conferring the award on the eminent industrialist, the NIP President, Prof.Hycienth Ogbu Aboh, noted Nwaije’s contributions to science and technology, adding that the recipient had become a major force to reckon with in the industry through his firm’s products and services.

Nwaije, who thanked NIP for the honour and ‘’for realising our little contribution to education’’, said ‘’physics is his constituency’’. He, however, observed that “Physics is the father and mother of knowledge as it cuts across every subject or profession. Physics is not only found in the classroom, but also in research; it is in every aspect of life’’.

Noting the importance of physics to the economy, he called for the production of more physicists, urging the government’s support for the subject and parents to encourage their children to study it. He also asked more women to study the subject.

Specifically, he urged the government’s commitment to the Research Centre in Abuja to boost science. The guest speaker, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, who spoke on the conference theme, “Physics as a technological solution to sustainable development goals”, said physics is a driver of technology and development.

Ayolabi, a geophysicist, who is the Vice Chancellor, Mountain Top University (MTU), submitted that physics could play a vital role in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by its 2030 target, but said he wasn’t sure if Nigeria had gone far in attaining the goals.

Despite the major role that physics has played in development, Ayolabi lamented that the number of those studying the subject was declining.

The VC urged the government to encourage more students to choose it as a course of study. He also called for more research in physics to create new areas of development. More importantly, the don urged nations to build partnerships and collaborations in policy development, increase funding and scale up research in physics.

Others who got awards of excellence included Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; LASUSTECH VC, Prof Olumuyiwa Odusanya; Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) founder/General Overseer, Prof. Daniel Olukoya and Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) (NDLEA), Brig.-General Mohammed Buba Marwa.
