  • Nigeria’s first green superstore, Justrite, PV and Energy storage system officially launched

Nigeria’s first green superstore, Justrite, PV and Energy storage system officially launched

Empower New Energy, in collaboration with its technical partners, Powercell Limited and Huawei Digital Power, announces the commissioning of a pioneering rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plant and battery energy storage system (BESS) for Justrite Superstores, the leading neighborhood retail supermarket chain in Nigeria.

“Power is the foundation of industrial and commercial development in Nigeria. Renewable energy such as photovoltaic has ushered in the best development era. Huawei Digital Power’s unique value lies in its long-term R&D investment in digital and power electronics technologies, and always putting quality and safety first.

Justrite, Empower, Powercell and Huawei jointly build the first green superstore in Nigeria and even in West Africa. Huawei provides the high-quality, high-reliability, and high-security smart PV and energy storage system solutions, which will help many enterprises greatly reduce the cost of fuel and improve the stability and safety of electricity production,” said Chris Lu, Huawei Nigeria CEO & Chairman.

Huawei has launched a one-fit-all C&I solution of optimizer, smart PV inverter, ESS, and cloud management system with safety and reliability as the core, optimal electricity cost, and smart O&M. What are the business values and advantages of Huawei’s industrial and commercial smart PV and energy storage solutions?

Over the past decade, Huawei has shipped more than one million inverters worldwide, with an annual failure rate of less than 0.5%. Huawei inverters have the highest L4 intelligent arc protection and can shut down within 0.5 second after DC arc detection. Reliable and safe inverters are the important guarantee for sustainable power generation.

Optimizer enables zero voltage quick shutdown and Component-level optimization increases power generation by up to 30%

Those technologies protect the safety of the roof and ensure the safety of people and property.

Safety is always the main concept in design and manufacturing. For smart string energy storage system, the selection of high-quality cells requires a complete eight-month reliability test, including strict extreme tests and environmental tests etc., to ensure that all cells pass 100% safety and reliability checks. The energy storage system implements cell-level monitoring and AI-based data analysis to identify risky cells and ensure rack isolation. It also provides string-level monitoring and protection and special structural safety design.

Huawei always puts safety first, because safety is the guarantee for long-term system operation, the basis for the commercial value of PV and energy storage systems, and the foundation for personal and property safety.

Madrid-bound Mbappe  reveals  frustrations at PSG

Real Madrid attacker Kylian Mbappe has  said “things and people made me unhappy” at Paris Saint-Germain before he signed a five-year deal with the Spanish club.

France’s Mbappe, 25, will join the La Liga champions for next season in a long-rumoured move having spent seven campaigns in the French capital.

During PSG’s tour of Japan and South Korea last summer, the club’s management threatened to ban Mbappe from playing after he had told them he was planning on leaving the Parc des Princes this year.

“I was told that, I was made to understand that, I was spoken to violently,” Mbappe told reporters ahead of Les Bleus’ friendly with Luxembourg.

“At PSG I wasn’t unhappy, that would be biting the hand that feeds you, and spitting in the face of all the people who defended me, but things and people made me unhappy,” he added.

Mbappe left PSG at the end of the season having lifted the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup under Spanish coach Luis Enrique and advisor Luis Campos, who he also worked under while playing for Monaco.

Despite the domestic success he failed to guide his hometown club to a Champions League crown, a major ambition for Qatari-owned PSG and their president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

“The people who saved me are Luis Enrique and Luis Campos,” Mbappe said. “Without them I would not have put a foot on the field again.”

Madrid announced Mbappe’s arrival two days before Les Bleus’ game against Luxembourg in the northern French city Metz, their penultimate match ahead of their Euro 2024 opener against Austria on June 17.

“I have a responsibility as captain. I think it overshadowed the national team,” Mbappe said. “I will only answer questions about the national team, I wish to protect them.

“We have a big summer ahead of us,” the 2018 World Cup winner added.

  • Djokovic out of French Open with knee injury

Djokovic out of French Open with knee injury

Novak Djokovic pulled out of the French Open ahead of his quarter-final against Casper Ruud due to a knee injury suffered in the previous round, tournament organisers  have announced.

“Due to a torn medial meniscus in his right knee (discovered during an MRI scan performed today), Novak Djokovic… has been forced to withdraw from the Roland Garros tournament,” organisers said in a statement.

World number one and 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic was due to play Ruud today for a place in the last four. Djokovic defeated Ruud in last year’s final at Roland Garros.

As a result Ruud will go on to face fourth seed Alexander Zverev or 11th seed Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals on Friday.

The 37-year-old Djokovic had cast doubt over his fitness following Monday’s five-set win over Francisco Cerundolo, admitting he needed anti-inflammatory drugs to get through the match.

Djokovic blamed the “slippery” Philippe Chatrier court for the injury he sustained early in the second set of his 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Cerundolo.

“I don’t know what will happen tomorrow or after tomorrow if I’ll be able to step out on the court and play. You know, I hope so. Let’s see what happens,” Djokovic said after the match.

“For the last couple weeks I have had, I would say, slight discomfort, I would call it that way, in the right knee, but I haven’t had an injury that would be concerning me at all.

“I was playing a few tournaments with it, and no issues until today.”

Djokovic’s withdrawal from the French Open means that Jannik Sinner will become Italy’s first men’s world number one next week.

The Serbian star arrived at the tournament with his status at the top under threat from Sinner, who was guaranteed to supplant Djokovic if the latter failed to reach the final in Paris.

Djokovic has spent a record 428 weeks at the top of the rankings.

His injury extends his worst start to a season since 2018, when he didn’t win an event until claiming the Wimbledon title.

Adding to his problems, he was accidentally hit on the head by a metal water bottle in Rome last month before suffering stomach problems in Geneva.

Djokovic last pulled out of a Grand Slam during the 2019 US Open, when a shoulder problem forced him to quit against Stan Wawrinka in the last 16

  • StarTimes/NPFL: outcome of Rangers, Enyimba Oriental Derby  may favour Remo Stars

StarTimes/NPFL: outcome of Rangers, Enyimba Oriental Derby  may favour Remo Stars

The upcoming Oriental Derby between Enugu Rangers and Enyimba has taken on even greater significance, as Remo Stars lie in wait, hoping to capitalise on any slip-up by the two frontrunners.

With Rangers leading the table with 61 points and both Enyimba and Remo Stars tied on 59 points, a draw in the derby could propel Remo Stars to the top, provided they secure a victory in their away match against Lobi Stars.

Both games will air live on Beta Sports channel 244 on StarTimes on Sunday, June 9.

Remo Stars have been a formidable force this season, demonstrating their title credentials with consistent performances at home. They currently sit in third place due to an inferior goal difference compared to second-placed Enyimba, but their away from lacks a glimmer of hope. They have only won two away games, Enyimba and Bayelsa United, drew four and lost eleven away games this season.

For Remo Stars to claim the title, a specific set of circumstances needs to unfold. Firstly, Enugu Rangers and Enyimba must play out a draw, ensuring neither team gains an advantage. Secondly, Remo Stars need to win their match against Lobi Stars by a significant margin of seven goals to surpass Rangers’ goal difference and secure the top spot.

A historical opportunity beckons. Remo Stars’ coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, fuelled by the team’s consistent improvement over the past two seasons, believes this could be their year to clinch the elusive NPFL title. Finishing third two seasons ago and second last season, the team has shown steady progress, and the coach sees this as their golden opportunity to reach the summit of Nigerian football finally.

It will be a weekend of high stakes and endless possibilities.

The Enugu Rangers vs Enyimba Oriental Derby holds the key to the championship race, with Remo Stars eagerly anticipating the outcome.

The fate of the title hangs in the balance, and this weekend promises to be a rollercoaster of emotions for fans and players alike. Both games will air live on Beta Sports channel 244 on StarTimes on Sunday, June 9.
