NPFL/StarTimes: Different strokes as Ogunbote , Boboye, Ogenyi review Match Day 34

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has asserted that Abia Warriors proved to be a tough nut to crack despite beating the team 4-0 in Ibadan on Sunday.

Abia Warriors held the Oluyole Warriors for the most part of the game before losing steam as from the 70th  minute and thereafter conceded four goals in quick succession for an emphatic defeat.

“It was a good match, I know their coach (Bethel Orji) is a sound coach and Abia Warriors have a competent team. We needed to sweat to get the result” said Ogunbote who however gave reasons why his side failed to score in the first half, despite creating lots of chances.

“In the first half, we should have taken the lead, but there was a lot of anxiety. Anxiety because we have few matches to go and there have been intimidating results before now.

“In addition, Abia Warriors being a good side, were able to resist every antics we put up until the second half.

“I think, the important thing was that my team was playing well, the missing factor was the goal, until we got it right”, added the former Sunshine Stars, Lobi Stars and Remo Stars’ handler.

The former Enyimba and Rangers head coach thumbed up the performance of the club’s supporters and fans for continually cheering the team up even when the goals were yet to come.

“I must express my appreciation, on behalf of the entire team to our supporters and fans, as well as journalists, who believed in us and have been standing by us through the thick and thin. Their support has been very helpful to us,” added Ogunbote.

In a related   development, the head coach of Sunshine Stars Kennedy Boboye has stated that his players worked very hard before securing the three points against relegated Gombe United in Gombe.

The Owena Whales got a 2-0 away win over struggling Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium and Boboye whose wards were under criticisms following the home draw with Bendel Insurance had to dig deep to secure the three points.

”I’m glad that we picked the needed points here today (Sunday) in Gombe, it’s a result we so desire and I’m glad we got it done, Gombe United is not a bad side at all but that’s football for you “, he said.

Sunshine Stars will next face Kano Pillars on Wednesday in the President Federation Cup Federation Cup quarter final tie in Abuja.

Elsewhere, Rivers United head coach, Evans Ogenyi has attributed fatigue for the reason for their big loss to Enyimba in Aba last weekend.

Andy Okpe put the Pride of Rivers ahead in the 14th  minute but two goals each from Chijioke Mbaoma and Elijah Akanni ensured that the People’s Elephant ran away with a comprehensive 4-1 win.

Ogenyi said fatigue is one of the problems but also admitted a poor defensive display.

“Fatigue has taken a toll on my boys since we lost in the quarter-final in Algeria, we came back and played 6 matches in 15 days,” Ogenyi said.”So we are battling with Injury and fatigue but I’m not complaining.

“Two of those goals we conceded today were a lack of concentration from the goalkeeper and the defenders,” he added.
