AFCON; Edoho urges unity amid Osimhen, Lookman spat

Media personality Frank Edoho has called for calm and solidarity among fans following a heated on-pitch exchange between Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Round of 16.

In a post on X, Edoho wrote: “Football is a passionate game and sometimes things get heated up and escalate. The lads understand this and Lookman has shown the ties that bind us. Please let’s not use this incident to hurl insults at Osimhen. It is passion for the game and for Nigeria. Let’s go all the way.”

Edoho’s intervention comes amid widespread online debate over the incident, which occurred in the 63rd minute with Nigeria already leading 3-0.

Osimhen, who scored twice assisted by Lookman, appeared frustrated when the Atalanta winger opted to dribble or shoot rather than pass in promising positions, denying the Galatasaray striker a potential hat-trick.

Television footage showed Osimhen confronting Lookman face-to-face, gesturing animatedly and shouting phrases like “Hey, it’s a team game!”

Captain Wilfred Ndidi attempted to intervene but was brushed off.

Moments later, Osimhen signaled to the bench for substitution and was replaced by Moses Simon shortly after.

Funke Akindele’s ‘Behind The Scenes’ hits N1.7bn in cinemas

Multi-award winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has made history with her latest film, “Behind The Scenes,” which has become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025, earning N1.767billion mark in almost four weeks.

Recall that the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, had earlier announced that “Behind The Scenes” broke five opening-weekend records, including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day, with N129.5 million.

Now reacting to the latest achievement, the distributor wrote: “Celebrating yet another incredible milestone and we’re so sure we wouldn’t have done this without you and your love.

“Behind The Scenes hits a whopping N1.77B also standing as the Number 1 film of the weekend. Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far”.

Akindele’s impressive track record at the box office has solidified her position as a powerhouse in the industry.

This is her third film to gross over N1 billion, following “A Tribe Called Judah” and “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” which became Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend of all time and the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever, respectively.

The film’s success can be attributed to its advanced screening on December 10 and 11, which generated significant buzz among audiences, paving the way for its nationwide release on December 12.

“Behind The Scenes” boasts an all-star cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others.

  • How armed robbers attacked me, Funke Akindele during Omo Ghetto filming – Bimbo Thomas

How armed robbers attacked me, Funke Akindele during Omo Ghetto filming – Bimbo Thomas

Actress Bimbo Thomas has recounted a harrowing experience where armed robbers invaded a hotel housing the cast and crew of Omo Ghetto Part Two during filming in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

The attackers, who seemed to be targeting filmmaker Funke Akindele, broke into the hotel late at night, terrifying the actresses.

Thomas, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, said filming the thuggery-themed movie attracted frequent disruptions from hoodlums in the area.

“We were filming in Ebute Metta, and boys would always come on set to disturb us because it’s a thuggery movie, and they felt we were depicting their everyday life.

“It’s my hood. I grew up in Ebute Metta, so I thought they would accord me that respect, but we still had to bring security so we could shoot freely,” she added.

Thomas said the ordeal began around midnight with loud bangs and shouts of “Ole! Ole!” as the attackers tried to force their way in.

According to Bimbo, she, Akindele, and others hid in the bathroom, praying and trying to conceal Akindele’s identity.

“We didn’t know what to do. We were praying. Funke is a prayer warrior, so we all started praying,” she said.

In a desperate attempt to protect Akindele, Thomas said they tried to hide her.

“I told them, ‘She’s the face here.’ We tried to put Funke under the bed, but it didn’t work, so we moved to the bathroom,” she said.

The attackers eventually broke in and took Akindele away, forcing her to sing and dance.

Thomas described the scene as “deeply disturbing,” saying she thought they would all be killed.

“When they came back the second time, it was clear they were looking for Funke. They kept calling her name.

“I thought they would just take what they wanted and leave us, but they told her to put on her clothes and dragged her downstairs to her car.

“I came downstairs and heard her singing Emi Omo Ghetto. I didn’t understand what was happening. They asked her to sing and dance, and she did,” Thomas said.

The attackers were later chased away by security forces, and some were reportedly arrested or killed.

Thomas linked the attack to an earlier incident on set where some locals were arrested and made to apologise.

“Some boys disturbing us were arrested and made to record apology videos. Even though we had settled the area before filming, that incident offended them,” she said.

She thanked God for their survival, saying she was ready to defend Akindele to the end.

“I was thankful. At that moment, I was ready to attack one of them without thinking of the consequences. I could have been killed.

“When Funke later asked why I didn’t give her up to them, I told her, ‘If they were going to kill you, they would have killed us together. We thank God. Truly, we thank God,” she added.

He noted that Joshua had exchanged seats with his friends before the accident, which ultimately led to their tragic demise.

“The people he exchanged seats with died. I don’t know why, but the mercy of God said someone would still be alive today,” he said.

The cleric stressed the importance of recognising God’s mercy in our lives, urging listeners to take the message personally.

  • Filmmaker Chinneylove dismisses Lily Perez’s plagiarism allegations

Filmmaker Chinneylove dismisses Lily Perez’s plagiarism allegations

Filmmaker Lily Perez has accused Chinneylove of plagiarising her film “A KRISTMAS TO LOVE”, claiming that the similarities point to a clear case of creative deficiency.

On Instagram, Perez highlighted multiple parallels between the two films, including the lead character’s name, storyline, and certain key scenes.

Chinneylove, however, defended her work, insisting that her film is entirely original, conceived from her own ideas and written on her bed. She added that any resemblance to Perez’s film was purely coincidental, asserting that she had never seen “A KRISTMAS TO LOVE” prior to making her own.

She wrote, “So our film , ‘A KRISTMAS TO LOVE’ came out on December 4, 2025 (My Birthday) and three weeks later another ‘Popular writer/producer’ (obviously creative deficient ) clearly stole our storyline and tweaked it, the disrespect to the viewers is just mind boggling … Please walk with me.

“My lead character’s name is KRISTMAS, guess what? This individual used the same name for their female lead (Christmas). When last did you hear someone named Christmas? Let’s continue….

“How do you go as far as copying my scene where my male lead pretends to be ill and gets fed pepper soup by his love interest? Guess what? This individual swapped things. This time it’s the female lead that’s ill and the male lead feeds her pepper soup. Come on!!!

“Same story line of a young man who hated Christmas but finds love along the way. While this theme isn’t new, as many romance themed movies, you can’t help but cringe at the lack of creativity in copying another writer’s work. I mean, if you are going to steal my work, be more creative. Were you hoping to get away with it because of your large YouTube subscribers? What was the plan?

“The fact that this individual also used the same male lead as mine even makes the whole thing ridiculous.

“I am a new entrant to the Nollywood film industry, but if this is how some of y’all roll, don’t bring it to my corridors. I AM NOT ONE TO BE PLAYED WITH!

“To my amazing FAVS , thank you for drawing my attention to it… and for stating the obvious in the comment section”.

Responding to her claims, Chinneylove explained that her actor brought up the similarity on the first day of filming, but she dismissed it, thinking it was just a typical rom-com similarity.

She stated that if she had bought the script or story idea from someone, she would have discussed it with the actor, but since it was her original idea, she didn’t see it as a concern.

Chinneylove replied, saying: “I Got an inspiration for a story , and on my bed I wrote the entire story… The entire story from Start to finish! Everything was 100percent my idea never had I seen a movie that inspired it…I did all my casting, did all my planning and we were ready to go

“On my way to set on that fateful day which was our Day 1 my actor called me as I was driving to set and said this script is quite very familiar with a movie I had shot earlier, My quick response as I was rushing was “it’s not same story” it can’t be the same..

“Reason been that I didn’t buy the script from anyone or the story idea from anyone! It was my original idea… If I had bought the script then it would have been of concern as I would have discussed it with the actor on set… so I assumed that it’s usually typical romcoms Similarites and went ahead to set!

“As I got on set I met with the actor, he didn’t bring it up on seeing me physically, I just went ahead to do my job! There was no conversations whatsoever of “oh this character name is same can we change” “oh the backstory is same can we change. As filmmakers we edit and even replot stories onset so tell me why I would choose to tell a story same way it was?

Use the same actor, use the same character name? Same backstory? Couldn’t I have changed all this and still tell my story….”.

“As a filmmaker even when we get inspirations from a movie the least you can do is change around a lot of things…I come up with stories so easily that if I was aware of a similar film I would have found another script or better still tweak it in a way that you won’t even lay any similarities to the previous one…If I was even told on set of some similarities I would have changed a lot of stuff…

“It’s so funny that this things happen and the next thing is “oh you have a bigger platform “ that’s why… why does it always have to be this way? Why do people just generally get drawn to people who always play the victims?

Remember there are different sides to every story! What if my film came out first? Would this still have been the situation?

“I have shot over 200films from start of my career never have I ever been caught in this…..”
