The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi yesterday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences Court that Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi will be charged for contempt of court for going on air with a movie on the ongoing trial of Olanrewaju James aka Baba Ijesa.

Justice Toyin Taiwo had at last sitting of the court on June 24 barred the defendants, Nollywood actors and their supporters from publishing any material related to the matter in court as such would be sub judice.

During resumed proceedings yesterday, Mrs Adeyemi told the court that Fabiyi produced a movie titled “Oko Iyabo,” based on the court proceedings of June 24, 2021.

Adeyemi argued that since Baba Ijesa’s trial was still before the court, the matter was sub judice and, therefore, prohibited from public discussion elsewhere, Fabiyi went ahead and made a movie about the facts of the case.

The DPP said the movie, which was aired after the proceedings of June 24, breached the directives of the Court.

Lead defence counsel Dada Awosika (SAN) said the movie was filmed before the criminal case began in court.

Baba Ijesa is facing a six-count charge bordering on the indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration at the court.
