The Chairman of the Badagry local government, Hon Olusegun Onilude, has called on the beneficiaries of the empowerment programme of the council to make the judicious use of the items collected in order to be self-sufficient.

He made this call during the fifth edition of the programme which took place at the council secretariat during the week.

Onilude noted that the empowerment programme organised for 200 beneficiaries in the council areas cut across three categories of people, namely the aged, widows and petty traders.

“Some of the petty traders went home with fifty thousand naira each, while others were given deep freezers to boost their trades. Widows and the vulnerable were given food palliatives and five thousand naira each,” he said.

He said the empowerment programme cut across political party leanings ” as members of other political parties in the local government area went home with cash gifts and giant deep freezers. This is to show that here in the Badagry local government, we run an all-inclusive government. Everybody is important as they pay their taxes and rates as at when due.

The council boss pointed out that the council decided to give five thousand naira each to the aged and the vulnerable in the society together with the food stimulus packages so that they do not sell off the food items for peanuts.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs Medogbe Francisca commended the efforts of the Onilude-led administration for its efforts in alleviating the economic hardship being faced by the residents.

She assured the council boss of their unflinching support to move the council forward.
