THE Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Lekan Balogun, and former Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi have described Chief Richard Akinjide’s death as a great loss to Ibadanland and the country.
In their separate condolence messages, the duo said Akinjide would be remembered for his contributions to the development of the state and country.
Balogun described the late Akinjide as a quintessential and consummate lawyer.
“The political class has lost one of its finest when it comes to consistency and political sagacity’.
“He never wavered as a right wing politician all through his political sojourn, which spanned through all the republics.
“This type of our late brother is rare. He was very focused, committed and a firm believer in whatever cause he believed in.

“He was not a bread and butter politician, who ran around for political patronage; rather, he was contented with whatever became the lot of his party at any point time. The new generation of politicians have a lot to learn from his style of politics…”
Ajimobi said though Akinjide died at an advanced age, his death still came as a rude shock to him and many other Nigerians.
“As a legal icon, he was the pride of Ibadan and the Nigerian society, proving his worth at different legal fora.
“As a nationalist, he gave his best to the world of legal practice and the best came back to him in terms of recognition.
“He was indisputably recognised as a brilliant jurist and deservedly accorded the honour.
“He was Queens Counsel (QC), a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a life bencher who brought his wealth of experience to the Bar.
“As a statesman, he served his country diligently, being Minister of Education in the first Republic, and Chief Legal Officer in the second.
“Chief Akinjide would forever be remembered for his contribution to the legal profession with some prominent lawyers of today taking tutelage at his feet.”
