Internet sensation Steve Chuks recently launched his web series, The Ex, and since then, his acting career has been making headway.
The Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Lagos speaks with The Nation on career trajectory and sundry issues.
You are known online as Steve Chuks, what is your full name?
Akaelu Steven Ebuka
How would you describe your childhood?
I’m an only son with two sisters and a single mum. I lost my father at an early age. So basically my childhood was full of both the struggles and the good
Give us a brief background about you?
I am from Nnewi local government in Anambra State, in the Eastern part of Nigeria. I attended Genesis nursery and primary school then Unique height secondary school. I got a degree at the University of Lagos, where I studied Theatre Arts.
How long have you been in the industry?
I’ve been in the industry for about six years
How does it feel being a social media celebrity?
I mean asides the recognition from people when I step out and a few hype here and there. There’s nothing really attached to it. I still feel like me regardless.
What’s your take on online skit makers collaborating with one another?
I think collaboration is always great. It is important that we grow the industry collectively.
How much effort do you put in making one skit?
Well, it depends. Sometimes, it takes me a day or two days. It depends on the story and length of the skit.
What inspires you?
My mum and sisters have been a huge inspiration for me.

Who is your role model?
There are several of them but Genevieve Nnaji and Will Smith stand out.
Do you make money from your skits?
Yes, I do. If I wasn’t, I would have started doing something else because as much as this is something I love, money is also very essential. I have signed deals with a couple of brands.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently on the set of a TV series produced by Uche Jombo for Rok TV. It is titled Dr Love. I’m also producing a stage play for Easter at the moment
Do you plan on going mainstream anytime soon?
Yes of course.
Are you in a relationship?
Not at the moment
When not acting, what else do you do for fun?
To be honest, I love creating so I’m always finding content to put myself in. Aside from that, I go to the cinemas, have drinks with friends and that’s about it.
