Benue red breath

Benue breathes red this day

We walk in a flood of tears

Our procession mourns your exit

Great compatriots of our land

Your voices have been cut short

You all had your plans for today,

…to pay school fees of children

…to cook the most delicious meals

…to meet with business partners

…to plan a bright future

…to play moonlight games

…to spend time with lovers

But a sad way to start the year

The white Thursday in your diary, now Black

Heinous herdsmen have done their worst

The World wails your ascent to the world beyond

Benue breathes red this day

We walk in a flood of tears

More than seventy of you leveled with grasses

You allowed them your spaces,

they still took your souls,

They not only displaced you from your inheritance

They forced your relocation from mother earth

What a dastardly act of terror!

Benue breathes red this day

We walk in a flood of tears

Tell our Creator how you were humiliated

Tell Him how Trailers, Lorries conveyed your remains

How your blood replaced that of cattle

They graze on your land and life

The Herdsmen have done their worst

Only the soil can avenge your tears

Farewell to your innocent souls!
