An NGO, Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation (BOF), has donated palliative materials to 500 families in Lagos States to reduce the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
Olowojebutu said the foundation’s constant pursuit for impact gave birth to BOF COVID-19 relief programme due to the fact that the pandemic had affected many families, especially the elderly and vulnerable ones.
“Each relief package contains 5kg rice, beans, semovita, noddles, eggs, bread, tomato paste, oil, sanitisers and bottle water. We hope this love will bring some succor to these families.
“We hope that more corporate organisations and passionate individuals will support our vision so that we can all together make this world a better place.
“COVID-19 is not a hoax, people should stay safe.
“We advise the general public to please endeavour to follow the guidelines of safety as recommended by the Nigeria Centre for Disease (NCDC) and the Lagos State Ministry of Health during the ease of the lockdown,” he said.
Olowojebutu also urged the governments to be passionate about improving access to quality healthcare in Nigeria and extend relief support to the vulnerable citizens during this period.
He, however, urged the three tiers of government to increase the testing capacities of COVID-19 across the states and constantly disseminate public enlightenment on Radios, Televisions and other means of information on NCDC guidelines to people.
Olowojebutu noted that the number of cases were increasing daily, basically because of community transmission, saying some people were with the virus, without showing symptoms.
He said that such people carrying COVID-19 virus were asymptomatic and could infect others, which means adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines all the time to contain its transmission.
A beneficiary, Mrs Lara Adetunji, commended the foundation for giving her necessary food items and the awareness on Coronavirus, praying that God would continue to bless the foundation.
Another beneficiary, Mr Ade Olomola, thanked the foundation for the distribution of palliative materials, describing the gesture as timely and important to his family since they had nothing to eat.
NAN reports that the foundation’s objective is to help indigent people suffering from various diseases such as Fibroids, Lipomas, Breast lumps, Hydrocele and Hernias.
Since its inception in 2018, the organisation has performed over 3000 free surgeries across 12 states in Nigeria.
