Border closure is helping to boost local production, Managing Director CHI Farms Dr Tunji Olaitan has said.

He praised the government for the policy, saying it will help grow the local industry.

He said due to the closure, CHI Farms has hit an all-time record in frozen poultry meat sale.

According to him, increased productivity and the company’s expanded capacity, as well as the strict border closure, were responsible for the increased sales.

Olaitan said: “We have invested a lot in our business processes and we are glad that the Government is taking active steps to protect the businesses in Nigeria.”

He added that many Nigerian businesses have improved since the Benin border closure.

Martin Middernacht, Executive Director CHI Farms, explained that CHI Farms is taking steps to invest in preparation for next year.

“Although our sales are at the highest point, there is still a market demand gap that we will position ourselves to fill.

“We will significantly invest to meet the emerging demands for our quality chicken in 2020,” he said.

CHI Farms’ Head of Sales Temim Garba said the demand for CHI Farms’ chicken has doubled over the last three months.

“There is additional demand for our chicken and we are investing to meet this demand, especially for the upcoming festive season.

“Our capacity has grown and we are expectant for even more growth,” he said.
