A member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Board of Trustees, Chief David Onuoha-Bourdex, has said that his position on the calls for the declaration of Abia North Senatorial seat in the Senate be declared vacant is based on the need to follow due process and rule of law.
In a statement released by the Onuoha-Bourdex Media Office and signed by Umunna Amara, the APGA chieftain condemned the attempts by some hired hands to twist his warning to desperate politicians to observe caution and due process in the Abia North Senatorial matter.
He regretted that instead of guiding their supporters and followers properly on the rudiments of legislative practice and procedure, some members of the opposition insist on heating up the polity and creating needless distraction in the polity.
Onuoha-Bourdex recalled how the issue of what happens to Abia North Senate seat cropped during his interaction with some journalists in Abuja, stressing that it is trite that when a matter is in court no action would be taken to destroy the substance of litigation.
“The occupant of Abia North Senate seat and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has filed an appeal against his conviction by a Federal High Court and until that appeal is dispensed with, even commonsense dictates that the Senate or Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot do otherwise.

“That is my stand. And as a candidate in the election, it is obvious that I hold equal stake in the matter as those instigating the calls for the seat to be declared vacant. I maintain that disturbing the Senate leadership with calls for the seat to be declared vacant amounts to levying needless pressure on the National Assembly to meddle into a matter before another arm of government,” he stated.
Bourdex said he was not moved by attacks on his person, since, according to him, the characters championing the confused calls on Kalu to resign and the Senate to vacate his seat are hirelings of the immediate past occupant of the Senate seat.
Denying that he has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), he declared, “It is therefore necessary to urge these agents of public nuisance to direct their attacks on their paymaster who, instead of using constituency funds to develop the senatorial district, wallowed in vainglory by appropriating contracts through funny sounding firms run by his personal assistant.
“We are minded to also advise the agents of the former Senator to challenge their principal to give account of his wasted years in the Red Chamber, before expending his energy in a blind quest to pitch Abia North Senatorial District against the leadership of the 9th Senate.
“If a man who boasts of political discipline, after warming the chairs at the National Assembly, could not recognise the difference between the due process of law and mob action, it shows the unmitigated catastrophe his political odyssey represents.”
Unlike career politicians without a second address, the member of APGA BoT has been using his personal wealth to bring social amenities, including roads, water and educational projects to various communities in Abia North Senatorial District.
