ONDO State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Friday, expressed the need for the federal government to provide good roads in rural areas across the country to boost agriculture and guarantee food security.
To achieve this, he called for the resuscitation of the defunct Directorate of Food Roads and Rural infrastructures (DFRRI)to boost agriculture.
Akeredolu said his administration has begun working towards achieving a zero hunger state as various schemes have been embarked upon in empowering farmers and encouraging youths to go into farming.
The governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff (CoS) Olugbenga Ale, disclosed this at the World Food Day ceremony in Akure, the state capital, with the theme: ‘Our actions Are Our Future, Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger world.’
He assured farmers in the state that his administration has identified some rural roads for repair and construction of new ones.

Besides, he said farmers whose farms were affected by the flooding would be assisted financially in the dry season.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA)to the governor on Agriculture and Agribusiness, Akin Olotu, also charged the Federal Government to resuscitate rural roads rehabilitation project and assist state government in construction of rural roads to allow free movement of farm inputs and produce.
He noted this would enhance the production scale and revenue generation.
