A’Ibom beats Ebonyi, FCT, others to emerge Nigeria’s cleanest city

Akwa Ibom State has beaten Ebonyi, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, and the rest of the states to emerge Nigeria’s cleanest city for the 6th time with a cumulative score of 72%.

The result was announced yesterday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital following a survey conducted under the five-year project review circus, tagged STONE Pro- Max 2023.

Akwa Ibom since the inauguration of the STONE project in 2018 has maintained a first position having won five times in a row.

The national coordinator/secretary of the National Technical Study Group ( NTSG) on Clean Up Nigeria, Prince Ene Baba Owoh, Jr. congratulated the government and people of Akwa Ibom State for emerging as the five times overall Cleanest State in Nigeria.

He stated: “For emerging the overall best-performing state in the six years performance indicators and five times cleanest state in Nigeria under the six years project circus review period (2018-2023) tagged STONE Pro-Max 2023. Akwa Ibom State will be conferred with the STONE 2023 Pro-Max 2018-2023 Cleanest State in Nigeria Green Crystal Award

“It is therefore our privilege to proudly invite the chairman of Akwa Ibom state Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSPEWMA) Hon. Obong Prince Ikim to come forward to receive the cleanest state in Nigeria Pro-max Green Crystal Awards certification in all the five performance indicators and the STONE Pro-max (2018-2023) five times cleanest state in Nigeria, Green Crystal Award”.

Owoh also announced Ebonyi and FCT to have closely followed Akwa Ibom in the second and third positions with 50 and 47 percent scores respectively.

He therefore encourages all stakeholders to engage in a peer review mechanism by making time to visit both best best-performing States/Cities and the backward States/Cities to gain more insights into what the top States are doing to improve their performance ratings.

He used the occasion to encourage Nigerians to make that positive difference through actions in the interest of the environment; as global citizens.

Owoh stated: “We salute Akwa Ibom State, the Pro-Max 2023 Cleanest state in Nigeria. Remember a Clean Nigeria is possible.”

Reacting to the award, the state commissioner for environment, Uno Etim Uno commended the Clean-up Nigeria Initiative for the recognition and recommended that a strong message be passed to sensitize Nigerians to stay off practices that could negatively impact the environment.  “Outcomes of climate change are major threats to the survival of the environment”. He cautioned.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Barr Iquo Abia, the Commissioner urged major stakeholders to prepare to effectively implement recommendations reached at the meeting.

He pledged the readiness of the state government to continue to work to ensure a safe and secure environment through an institutional framework that would support a safe environment.

The commissioner also pledged government commitment to proper waste management, end to gas flaring and other practices that threaten the serenity of the environment.

He said: “Again we appreciate Clean up Nigeria for finding us worthy of the award of the cleanest state in Nigeria for the last five years running. We do not take the award for granted, it is a call to do more”

Reacting to the awards, the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSPEWMA) Prince Akpan Ikim paid a glowing tribute to former Governor Victor Attah for creating the agency by signing into law the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency CAP 47 law 2000.

He also acknowledged former Governor Godswill Akpabio who built the receptacle maintenance and workshop at Itam, for proper waste disposal and management.

“Then Udom Emmanuel came, and had that political will to constitute the board and gave us all the necessary support and we started winning the cleanest state in 2018.

Then Governor Umo Eno has given us the necessary support, it is on record that he is the first governor that has joined us for environmental sanitation.

“He has given us a matching order to ensure that the state remains cleanest in Nigeria, ranging from the vegetation, there is what we call environmental sustainability. We are looking at recycling waste to wealth etc.

“So, we are working with the House of Assembly Committee on Environment for a law that has to be in tune with international best practices, the law has to be such that would encourage investors to come in. That is why we are also liaising with AKICORP so that anyone who has an investment that has to do with waste would register with them”. He said

He commended the Clean Up Nigeria Initiative for recognizing excellence and pledged to keep Akwa Ibom as a model clean state in Nigeria.

Emeka Ike’s ex-wife always beat my mother, says brother

Victor Ike, brother of veteran actor, Emeka Ike revealed how his brother’s ex-wife, Suzanne Emma physically assaulted their mother.

The Nation reported that the actor had revealed in an interview recently that his ex-wife had alleged that he assaulted her.

He said since then, she has sold all of his properties and prevented him from accessing his children.

His brother who was tired of the narrative that was spun on social media by Daniel Regha and other internet users shared further information on the issue.

According to Victor Ike, everything Emeka said was true and he further added that the ex-wife used to connive with her mother to beat their mother.

He claimed she spoiled Emeka Ike’s relationship with the rest of the family as he always defended her despite her wrongdoings.

In his words: “@DanielRegha and Co, Please don’t be judgmental when you don’t know their stories.

Emeka Ike is my blood brother, and everything he said @channelstv was 100% true. He didn’t even mention how she and her mother constantly beat my mum whenever she visited. He needs to see his kids

“He has always loved and stood for her even when she lies against his own family. Most of us in the family are not in good communication with him just because of her, so it is false to claim that the man who disowned his family for her was a wife-beater. Don’t hurt him with his kids.”

  • APC chieftain cautions Aiyedatiwa against reshuffling cabinet

APC chieftain cautions Aiyedatiwa against reshuffling cabinet

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, Sola Ajisafe, has cautioned the acting governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, against reshuffling the cabinet to favour his supporters in the government.

Ajisafe said he has uncovered plans by Aiyedatiwa to undermine Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who is on medical vacation.

The APC chieftain stated that there were plans by Aiyedatiwa to redeploy the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Princess Oladunni Odu to the Ministry of Commerce while the commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa would be posted to the Ministry of Culture and tourism.

Speaking in a radio programme in Akure, Ajisafe said any act to reshuffle the cabinet by Aiyedatiwa was contrary to the 1999 constitution and a breach of the agreement reached with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the peace meeting held in Abuja.

He said: “Section 190 of the Constitution did not give the Deputy Governor the power to reshuffle the cabinet. The section gives the Acting Governor to right to act on behalf of the governor not to override the decisions of the governor. There can’t be two governors at the same time.

“Recent actions and the protest by non-state actors demanding the resignation of Akeredolu showed that Aiyedaiwa wanted to succeed his boss through any means.

“The first time President Tinubu summoned the gladiators to Abuja, there was no effort on the part of the Acting Governor as the leader of the state to reconcile all warring factions.

“When they returned from Abuja the second term and Aiyedatiwa was made the Acting Governor, these people said Akeredolu was incapacitated and that he should relinquish the seat.

“Section 189 of the constitution talked about permanent incapacitation, not as freely being used by these people. These are the people who are pushing an agenda capable of rocking the boat of progress in Ondo state.”

Aiyedatiwa could not be reached for comments as he has yet to name his official spokesman.

  • JAMB: No hike in UTME registration form

JAMB: No hike in UTME registration form

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that there is no increase in the registration fee for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024.

The board said the cost of purchasing the UTME form remained N3,500 despite an increase in its cost of production.

JAMB’s public communication advisor, Fabian Benjamin in a statement on Wednesday, said the cost of the Board examination fee remained low to ensure that candidates are not overburdened.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to several publications in recent times insinuating that the Board has increased its examination registration fee.

“This is far from the truth as the cost of obtaining the Board’s UTME application documents remains N3,500, which has been the cost of its application documents since it was brought down from N5,000 in 2018. Therefore, the Board wishes to state that the cost of the application document price has not been increased in spite of the prevailing economic reality in the country which has also affected the cost of the Board’s operations.

“Consequently, the Board wishes to assure the general public that the Board has been doing all within its powers to ensure that candidates are not overburdened in any way.

“One of these measures is to deliberately keep cost low hence its decision to make available its Use of English reading text free of charge through a QR code to ensure that the increase in cost of production is not passed to candidates. Therefore, all UTME candidates would access the reading text free of charge through multiple channels, which include their profiles, e-mail addresses, notification slips and the Board’s website.

“It is, however, pertinent to state the fact that what is being perceived in some quarters as an increment in its fees is nothing other than the fallout of its cashless policy through which all fees payable by candidates to CBT centres have been consolidated and are paid along with their application fees to prevent their wanton exploitation by unscrupulous centre owners.

“These fees are in turn remitted to partnering centres every week. For instance, candidates are expected to pay N700 for registration, N1500 as examination fees, and N1500 for the optional Mock-UTME at privately – owned centres.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the 2024 UTME/DE e-PIN remains N3500. The registration fee of N700, which is to be paid to CBT centres by candidates, is now to be collected by the Board along with N1500, which is the cost of setting the main UTME, and N1500 as the cost of the optional Mock-UTME etc is to be collected by the Board on behalf of the CBT centres.”
