The Delborough Lagos: Ex-President Jonathan calls asks young Africans to emulate Stanley Uzochukwu

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has called on African young men and women to emulate Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu (@stanleyuzochukwu), owner of the luxury brand, ‘The Delborough Lagos’.

Jonathan made the call on Saturday at the grand opening of the ‘The Delborough Lagos’ in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Jonathan said: “Stanley came to see me when I was a president. When he interacted with me on his vision, I told him: young man, with this your vision, I want to make young Nigerians billionaires and you should be one of them.

“Somehow, it’s like a vision and he carried on with it and today he invited me to be here to commission this luxury brand.

“Stanley, you have done well! I appreciate what you’re doing. You are a good example of what we want our young men and women to do.

“In short, the whole world today is controlled by very young people. The economy today is not the one that you have to use your muscle but your brain.

‘So if you think positively, you can become the richest person in the world today. The multi billionaires today in the world are below 40 and 45 years old.

“Stanley here is comfortable, providing jobs for people. He can move freely without looking at his back to see if police and even SSS is following him.

“So we plead with our young boys; the brain you have, the level of intelligence you have that is making you to go through dubious ways to make money, that same brain and level of intelligence can make you make money positively and you will leave in decent society happily.

“We have a conversation that I was truly impressed with him – his humane, his humbleness, his clarity and his set of what he wants to achieve is fundamental and I want to believe that, indeed, if we want to begin to talk of role models in our country, Stanley is, indeed, a clear example of a Nigerian role model than all of us; giving the array of Nigerians that are here and giving the array of Nigerian Senior Citizens that are here to witness this event.

“You can see that they didn’t come because they just wanted to come and look at the beautiful brand, they came here because a young Nigerian is doing something that is unique, that’s great, that is elegant, that we all can identify with and it is a brand that we can all leave here and say that truly we are blessed in Nigeria.”

Criticism won’t stop me from spreading love, inspiring others – 360Kuts’ Jimmy Ofuoyan

In a demonstration of resilience which has been the hallmark of his life, Jimmy Ofuoyan, founder of 360Kuts, an international hair cut outfit, has vowed to continue to spread love and inspire others, despite the criticism from some Nigerians.

The grace to grace story of the 360Kuts boss is one of courage and determination, which both played key roles in his rise to fame and fortune. Born into a large family, he became a school dropout after his primary education.  The only option was to become an apprentice at his older brother’s salon where he acquired skills in braiding and fixing of women’s hair.

Men’s haircut in which the 360Kuts’ CEO is admired for his unequalled in parts of Italy, was through self-learning, during his years as a trainee stylist under the tutorship of his brother. The difficult formative years had swelled strength and emboldened him to pursue an uncommon vision.

Jimmy Ofuoyan was determined to chase him dream abroad after he became a master of the hairstyling craft. His intention to reach Europe through Libya became a death trap and he fell into the hands of human traffickers in the war-torn North African country. Unknown to him, providence had prepared a way of survival ahead, even while in illegal incarceration by his captors.

With blade and comb in his hand, he became the barber of his captors and other inmates–360Kuts was unofficially born. He escaped after 18 months in prison and made it to Italy, first in a migrant camp in Sicily, where he worked as a disc jockey at events and carnivals, and later moved to Pescara where he offered home services as a barber.

The 360Kuts CEO’s fame spread across the region, up to Milan, owing to his unique and phenomenal skills as a hair stylist. His professionalism attracted footballers and celebrities and he made a fortune from patronage. He was crowned the best in the trade in Pescara and Milan areas of Italy. He won the Blurriest/Fastest Fade Technique Battle against other home-grown barbers.

The entrepreneur lost his father this year and as a way of dealing with the huge loss, he offered free haircuts and shopping spree to strangers in the city centre, to also serve as charity in the community that has given him so much. Rather than receiving commendation by fellow compatriots for being a good ambassador and promoting the image of the country, vile comments were directed at him.

The 360Kuts’ chief hairstylist said the unfair criticism will not make him compromise his stand to inspire others to never give up and help others, even in their most difficult circumstances.

“Living in a society where people see every good deed as something beneficial or selfish, I knew I was going to get canceled and a lot of hates as seen on the Vanguard newspaper page on Facebook and other social media handles, especially from Naija where I’m from! Just because I posted a video helping people on the streets,” he wrote.

“Meanwhile, on that very day, I’d lost my dad and i truly understood more about life and I had no other way to express my grief rather than spreading love and compassion. To be 100% clear, I don’t  care. I’m always going to use my channel and platform to help other people, spread love and positivity and try to inspire my audience/followers to do the same.”

Webcore Nigeria empowers businesses with tailor-made digital solutions

Some businesses in Nigeria are rising to the challenges of complexities characterising modern day environment and dynamism in consumer demand and behaviour.

The one-stop shop that has continually provided digital solutions to helping them scale up for profitability is Webcore Nigeria, founded by Eloho Oyegwa.

The Webcore Nigeria CEO hails from the Isoko ethnic group in Delta State. The cerebral entrepreneur is the fifth of six siblings and his value-driven philosophy about business relations with clients and society at large imbibed by him is a virtue he watched his parents exhibited as a child.

He was born in Lagos and grew up in Surulere, where he created unbreakable bonds with his community and people. However, his parents, who brought him up with the fear of God as Christians, ensured he also did not lose affinity with his culture and people.

“I come from a religious, warm and loving family. My parents have always been my pillars of strength and have taught me invaluable life lessons. My father, Engineer Jeremiah Akporuere Oyegwa, is a hardworking individual who has instilled in me the importance of dedication and perseverance. My mother, Mrs Felicia Aruoriwo Oyegwa, is incredibly compassionate and has taught me the significance of empathy and kindness, ” Oyegwa said.

Speaking further, he said: “I am the 5th child born before the youngest child in our family. Growing up, my parents emphasized the values of honesty, integrity, and respect for others. They taught me the importance of education and encouraged me to pursue my passions. Our family gatherings were filled with love, laughter, and the joy of togetherness.

“I was born in Lagos State. This town holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I learned my first lessons, made lifelong friendships, and developed a strong sense of community. During the yuletide season in the late 1980’s and early 1990’smy childhood was marked by frequent visits to my native hometown in Okpawha village, Aviara Town, Isoko South, Delta State.

“These visits were moments of joy, where I connected with my grandparents and extended family. I immersed myself in my Isoko cultural traditions. Those experiences have shaped my values, making me appreciate the importance of family, culture, and staying connected to my native Isoko roots”, added the Webcore Nigeria visioned.

He attended Ade Akodu Memorial Primary School and Gbaja Boys High School–both in Lagos. The Webcore Nigeria founder developed core interest in computer education in the 1990s while in primary school. His teacher’s emphasis that computer will dominate the future left an indelible understanding on his mind as a child.

He went on to obtain a diploma in Computer Science at Lagos City Polytechnic and graduated from Lagos City Polytechnic in 2011– thoroughly equipped with comprehensive understanding of Computer Science.

“When it came to choosing my discipline at the higher institution of learning, I was deeply influenced by computers in my early years as a child growing up. While in primary school in the year 1991 I was thought briefly about computers. By checking the history, 1991 was around the period the first website was introduced to the world.

“While in class in primary school my teacher once said that in the future computers would take over the world,” the Webcore Nigeria managing director expressed.

“That statement made by my teacher stuck in my memory till this very day and at that time, I was too young to understand because my perception of computers of those early days were machines that looked like little television screens with a typewriter connected to it. Since those early periods of my life from the 1990’s to late 2000’s I have observed the way computers have been used in problem-solving and it’s use in real-world applications,” he stressed.

In 2016, he registered the digital innovation company two years after it began operations. In seven years, it has emerged as a leader in the realm of online presence management, as it has some corporate and individual brands as clients.

Nightlife in Africa, Nigeria transcending global standard – Edoh

Popular socialite and showbiz promoter-cum- businessman, Emmanuel Edoh, has said that nightlife in Nigeria and Africa has improved unimaginably and almost surpassing the global standard.

Edoh, who is co-partner of VANITI Lagos and Magic City nightclub in Abuja, was addressing some journalists on the secret of his growth in the entertainment business, where he set a fresh agenda for young Nigerians who wish to go into a similar venture.

Acknowledging that nightlife in Nigeria and Africa at large has hit an enviable height, Edoh said Africa is consistently transcending the global standard in entertainment, especially with regards to nightlife.

Agreeing that nightlife in Abuja has improved, Edoh, however, said it is yet to meet the highly competitive Lagos standard.

He said: “Nightlife activities in Nigeria has been good and it’s taking a different dimension lately. Unlike those days when people just go to clubs, drink and then go home, nightlife now has a lot more entertainment besides drinking. You won’t understand this unless you are a patron. The ambiance of clubs and the connection that comes with it speak volume. We are not even talking about the business aspect yet.

Reacting to the competitive status of Abuja as a fast-growing city in nightlife, Edoh said:

“Abuja is competing but Lagos still has more competitors. Abuja has a good market but Lagos has a better market. Nightlife in Lagos is large and huge with regards to business. It is either the market embraces you or dumps you.”

Speaking on the success of their new club, VANITI Lagos, Edoh said partnering with experienced and goal-getter in the person of Uyi Ogbebor also known as Sir Uyi, had inspired him.

He said, ” I’ll say been a partner in Lagos best nightclub VANITI is a great deal for me and my partners and thanks to my mentor in the business, Sir Uyi because he singlehandedly conceived the plans and with joint effort of the team, it’s becoming a great success.

“This is because we’ve brought a large combination of experience, entertainment and vibes to the Lagos market and thanks to Lagosians for accepting us.”
