PTAD Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi  confirmed the development.

  • Pensioners embrace ‘I Am Alive’ verification

Pensioners embrace ‘I Am Alive’ verification

Pensioners under the Defined Pension Scheme (DBS) are using to the ‘I Am Alive’ Confirmation (IAAC) Solution app, the new Acting Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Mr. Sulayman Shelleng, has said.

The IAAC is an online application designed to enable pensioners confirm their aliveness using either a smartphone or a computer system from their homes or neighbourhood.

He said since the introduction and full roll out of the solution on April 14, this year, the Directorate has been working to ensure a seamless process.

He called on pensioners from the Civil Service Pension, Police Pension, Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension, and Parastatals Pension to take advantage of the app and confirm.

He maintained that the objective of the past verification was to ascertain the eligible pensioners,  enrol those who were not on their payroll and  remove them.

He said the Directorate discovered that physical verifications were not only expensive for the pensioners and government but also a stressful for the senior citizens.

    Read AlsoPTAD: Resolving pensioners’ issues

He said: “Following the launch in 2021, PTAD began with the Pilot Phase, where the application was tested with 50,000 randomly-selected pensioners across the four operational departments and six geo-political zones. The aim was to test its efficacy and user-friendliness, bearing in mind that this novel initiative is meant for our senior citizens.

“The journey to test and provide this solution has taken PTAD over 18 months. They have been challenging months that stretched us as an organisation, as we worked to ensure that our service ethos of “Empathy” for our pensioners’ welfare is delivered. We are proud of our efforts and are hopeful that the solution will continue to have  positive impact on our DBS Pensioners as well as PTAD and the Government.”

He assured pensioners that the solution had been designed with their utmost welfare in mind leveraging  accuracy, reliability, user-friendliness and convenience.

He said PTAD has over the years promised that the era of bringing out the aged for field verification was over.

“The IAAC Solution is available to   verified pensioners across the four Pension Departments. It is simple and easy to use, and we have provided a short video for instructions.

“The application can be accessed using a smart mobile phone, a desktop or any computer device that has Internet access.

“Simply go to www.ptad.gov.ng, scroll down and click on the “I Am Alive” link at the bottom. If it is a Desktop, the link will be at the top right.

“Only the pensioner’s bank account number provided during verification and used for receiving pension, and the pensioner’s number on the Verification Acknowledgement Slip are required. PTAD does not need your BVN, ATM Card number or PIN to process the ‘I Am Alive’ Confirmation (IAAC) Solution. Please beware of fraudsters. Once you have logged in, follow the prompts.

“It is important to let our pensioners know that nobody can tamper with your pension payment through the ‘I Am Alive’ platform. If somebody with a smartphone or computer system in your neighbourhood helps you to confirm your aliveness, the person cannot steal your money. All we need is a confirmation that you are still alive and eligible to continue to receive your pension,” he added.

    PTAD: Resolving Pensioners’ Issues

IDOWU: Good day, my name is Idowu. This is a reminder to  you that I have sent my scanned verification details to PTAD as directed since July 22, 2021 but I have not received any response.

Recall that I retired from the Lagos State Post-primary Teaching Service Commission on April 30, 2004. The date of my first appointment at Epe Division Grammar School, Lagos State was June 1,1969.

I spent 35 years in Lagos State. My complaints are that I have not been paid the Federal Share of my Gratuity (1969-1976).

Secondly, my pension from May 1, 2004 to February 2008 was not paid. Instead, I was paid from March 1, 2008 to date. I thank you for the effort of your organisation to help us. God bless you.

PTAD: The Directorate would require your bank statement from retirement to date.

ONOH: My name is Onoh. I am from Cross River State. I retired from the Ministry of Public Utility on May 6, 2004. This is a reminder on my call for help over the non-payment of gratuity and monthly pension.

I humbly beg you to help me solve this problem and the 75 months’ pension allowance, which has lingered for years, despite my complaints at several pension verification exercises.

My gratuity is N244,336.32 and monthly pension is N6,244.14.

I was placed on pension payroll in September 2010, leaving 75 months behind. This amounts to N468,310.513.

Total money owed, including gratuity is N712,646.82. Thanks, in anticipation of your kind support.

PTAD: Bank statement is required from May 5, 2004 to date

OPADEJI: Good day, I thank you for the humanitarian job you are doing to correct the anomaly arising from payment to pensioners.

My name is Opadeji. I retired from NITEL on January 21, 2001 on grade level 14 as senior manager. I participated in the NITEL verification in 2001 and that of PTAD in 2005.

In 2005, when I was going for verification, my documents were missing and I sworn to an affidavit on the loss of the documents.

On the basis of the loss, PTAD placed me on grade level nine and I sent complaint emails to PTAD several times but no action was taken on my complaint email.

I, therefore, took the risk of travelling to Abuja, PTAD office, when the original copy of letter of promotion was delivered to me by a good Samaritan.

My salary was subsequently readjusted to grade level 14 but less than my salary before the verification and also far less than the pension being paid to my colleagues on the same GL 14.

Therefore, I sent many complaint emails, but returned undelivered perhaps my emails have been blocked.

Since then, I have accepted my fate. Now that I have the opportunity to forward my complaint through you to PTAD, I shall be grateful if my complaint can be treated with utmost concern. Thank you.

PTAD: Pensioner is on payroll. Pensioner’s grade level readjusted from grade level 9 to 14 step 10. He should provide Bank Statement from January 2018 to date for reconciliation.

DUROJAYE:  Hello, my name is Durojaye.  Thank you for the publications of my complaint on the short-payment of my pension federal share since 2015, on August 24 and August 31, 2022.

Please reactivate my federal share of pension. I expect a positive action.

PTAD: Pensioner was called several times, but no response. Pensioner should provide Bank Statements from 2015 to date to authenticate his complaint.

ANONYMOUS:  Good day, I will like to know if my father is eligible for pension under Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). He was appointed on July 3, 1989 but was removed on April 27, 1999.

PTAD: No Name and details provided.

Sunday: Good day, my name is Sunday from Cross River State. My father, Inspector Okimba, died on July 10, 2005 in active service.

His last place of service was Akwa-Ibom State. I went on to process his entitlement as his next of kin in 2015 at PTAD office Abuja where I was verified and captured with pensioner number. But up till date, I have not been paid.

    Kindly help me.

PTAD: There was incomplete documentation during verification. NOK is requested to forward these additional documents: Enlistment form; Emolument form, Letter of Administration, Marriage Certificate, Introduction Letter from Last Command, Valid Means of Identification, NOK’s Birth Certification, and NOK’s BVN.

ABDULLAHI: I am Abdullahi from Jos, Plateau State. My father was a staff member with Ministry of Defence, civilian unit for 16 years before he died in 1995.

I have attended various screening and verifications and the last one was in Jos in 2017.

I have submitted the required documents for the payment of gratuity and pension benefits as a Next of Kin (NOK), but up to no avail.

In 2020 I was called from PTAD to submit some documents, including bank account details, which I did. From your publication of my case, PTAD is asking for my verification number which I scanned and sent since then.

I hope The Nation will assist me.

PTAD: NOK should provide the deceased name and Bank statement.

BEST: My name is Best, SOP retired. I retired in 2006.

My complaint is on the short-payment of gratuity and pension. Table ‘B’ 268 per cent was used to compute my entitlement instead of 420 per cent for 31 years’ service. Gratuity paid was N1,665,569.08.

PTAD: Pensioner is on overpayment recovery.

WILLIAMS: This is to inform the officer concerned that I have not been receiving my monthly pension allowance since October 2021.

I was paid last on September 29, 2021 and the amount was N11,514.39.

I will be very grateful if this issue is corrected and the arrears paid up.

PTAD: Local government employees, not qualified for pension under PTAD.

ESIE: My name is Esie. Two years’ consequential arrears of pension were paid in four instalments. First instalment of nine months was paid to me. Second instalment of another nine months was also paid. The third instalment of three months was not paid. The fourth installment of three months was paid in June 2022. I therefore ask that the omitted three months arrears be paid to me.

14 Premium Pension customers access equity contribution for residential mortgage

Premium Pension Limited has  cleared 14 customers who applied to access 25 per cent of their pension savings as Equity Contributions for Residential Mortgage.

    The company paid N216.86 million.

The company’s Head, Corporate Communications, Aliyu Mohammed Ali, said the payment was in line with the Guidelines on accessing Retirement Savings Account (RSA) balance towards payment of Equity Contributions for Residential Mortgage for RSA Holders released by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) last September.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. Umar Sanda Mairami, stated that the arrangement was designed to facilitate home-ownership by RSA holders, deepen the mortgage sector through provision of sustainable long-term finance, and spur socio-economic development by narrowing the lingering housing deficit.

He said the company understands that owning a home is an essential part of financial security and retirement planning for our members, and we are pleased to have played and will continue to play a crucial role in making this dream a reality.

He said: “The payment of Equity Contribution for Residential Mortgage has been a long-awaited development for pension contributors, and we are proud to be among the first Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) to successfully implement this new Guideline.  Our team of experts worked tirelessly to ensure that our members’ Mortgage payments were processed promptly and efficiently, and we are delighted to have achieved this great milestone.”

He pledged the company’s commitment to continue to assist eligible members in accessing part of their pension savings to own a house in line with the Guidelines.

“Premium Pension, which started operations in 2005, has always been at the forefront of pension administration in Nigeria, and the company has remained committed to providing innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of its members.

“It will be recalled that last year we became the first PFA fully owned by Nigerians that has achieved over N1 trillion AUM without any form of business combination.

“The company prides itself as being a pacesetter in the pension industry, in several performance metrics. One of such is the attainment of Information Security Management (ISMS) certification ISO 27001 under the auspices of the British Standard Institute (BSI) in 2015 and a second certification from the same BSI in Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 9001 in 2018. Both certifications were renewed in 2021.

“In one of the most important service assessment points like investment returns, the company has consistently remained in the top quartile with the RSA Fund II being one of the best performing, since inception,” he added.

  • PenCom worried over uncredited pension contributions

PenCom worried over uncredited pension contributions

    • Gives PFAs Dec. 31 deadline to correct anonmalies

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has asked employers to get correct the information from their employees, saying improper details from the former is hindering documentation.

To this end, the commission has given employers till December 31 to do so or face the music.

PenCom said this action became essential in accelerating the crediting of the withheld pension contributions into the employees’ Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs).

PenCom said it would shed light more on the problem.

The Director-General, Mrs Aisha Umar-Dahir stated that the main issue lied in incomplete documentation from employers, resulting in Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) being unable to credit RSAs of affected employees.

The DG said: “The Pension Reform Act 2014 (PRA 2014) is a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at safeguarding the retirement future of workers. By virtue of this legislation, employers who employ three or more workers must make pension contributions to their employees’ RSAs, which PFAs expertly manage. The essence is to establish a financial safety net for employees in their golden years, allowing them to enjoy the fruits of their labour without any financial constraints. The PRA 2014 further instructs employers to remit the pension contributions of their employees who have not opened RSAs into nominal RSAs with a PFA designated by the employer.

Read Also: PenCom publishes employers owing pension contributions on website

“A nominal RSA is a temporary RSA established for an employee eligible for pension contributions but has not yet chosen a PFA to manage their pension funds. When an employee becomes eligible for pension contributions under the CPS but has not selected a PFA or provided the RSA details to his employer, the employer is still obligated to make contributions on behalf of the employee. As a result, the employer sets up a nominal RSA with a PFA of their choice.

“The nominal RSA serves as a temporary holding account for the contributions until the employee provides information about their RSA. Once the employee completes the necessary paperwork and selects a PFA, his accumulated contributions from the nominal RSA are transferred to the designated RSA in the selected PFA.

“However, certain employers have fallen short of meeting their obligations, generating far-reaching consequences. Incomplete documentation and the failure to convert nominal RSAs into personalised RSAs obstruct the smooth and timely crediting of pension contributions, directly impacting the contributors’ benefits.’’

Mrs. Dahir-Umar said PenCom has published the names of employers and employees affected on its website and that of the PFAs.

This transparency not only underscores the gravity of the matter but also showcases PenCom’s commitment to fairness and accountability, she said.

She, however, called on the affected employers and employees  provide the required information to their PFAs.

“We emphasise that this is a rallying cry for employers and employees to embrace responsibility. All hands must be on deck to overcome the challenge of uncredited contributions to achieve the objective of a future of secure retirements, unburdened by financial uncertainties.

“As the deadline approaches, PenCom reiterates its commitment to effectively regulating and supervising the pension industry. With collaboration between stakeholders and a steadfast commitment to compliance, the pension landscape can provide a secure foundation for employees’ post-retirement lives,” the DG assured.
