Hundreds of mutilated bodies found in abandoned Imo mortuary

Hundreds of dead bodies, suspected to have been used for organ harvesting, have been discovered in an unregistered dilapidated mortuary in Ngor Okpalla Local Government Area of Imo State.

The mortuary, located in an isolated, bush-surrounded area, contained bodies in an advanced state of decomposition.  Many of them were mutilated.

The Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, who visited the scene yesterday, expressed shock at the conditions of the bodies.

“We received an intelligence report that this place was used for organ harvesting,” he said, appealing to the public to come forward if they have relatives among the bodies. “We will arrest the suspect; we have already declared him wanted.”

Danjuma added that the state government plans a mass burial for the bodies, citing health hazards, and may demolish the building after obtaining legal clearance.

“We may soon organise a mass burial because it is constituting a health hazard to the entire village,” he said.

Imo State Health Commissioner Dr. Chioma Egu, who inspected the facility on the governor’s directive, confirmed it was unregistered. “We found hundreds of dead bodies, decomposed and not taken care of. There is nothing to show this place is a mortuary,” she said, declaring the site a public health concern.

A pathologist, Dr. Ibeaja from Imo State Specialist Hospital, described the corpses as being under “unfair preservation,” with no efforts to maintain them.

The local government chairman, Mrs. Chika Ibekwe, urged residents to identify the bodies before the  planned mass burial and demolition of the facility.

Foundation hosts Lagos school students on leadership, finance, others

A not-for-profit organisation, Opolo ati Ewa Women Empowerment Initiatives, in partnership with the Olumide Emmanuel Foundation, has hosted its fifth edition of its leadership, finance and relationship programme for secondary school students across Lagos State.

The event, held at the Rehoboth Grounds of Calvary Bible Church, Idimu Road, Lagos, drew over 1,000 students from SS1 to SS3, representing 45 schools from across the state during the weekend.

Speaking during the programme, the Founder of the Olumide Emmanuel Foundation, Dr. Olumide Emmanuel, said the initiative was part of the organisation’s long-standing vision to eradicate poverty “one person at a time” by empowering young people with the knowledge required to build sustainable wealth and character.

He emphasised that national transformation begins with shaping the mindset of the younger generation.

Addressing the students on the theme of the event titled, “The Keepers 2025: Just because…”, Emmanuel urged them to study the patterns of successful Nigerian billionaires whose wealth has outlived decades of economic instability.

“Look at people like Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Rasaq Okoya,” he said. “Their wealth did not come from shortcuts or crime. It came from building, investing, learning and staying consistent. If you want generational wealth, you must embrace discipline, strategy and patience.”

The financial expert and best-selling author challenged the students to begin early to cultivate habits that support long-term prosperity.

According to him, most wealthy families sustain riches across generations because they understand the power of value creation, legacy planning and business continuity. He stressed that money made through dishonest means cannot withstand time or adversity.

During a question-and-answer session, some students asked him whether “yahoo yahoo,” also known as internet fraud, could sustain anyone financially. Emmanuel, who appeared visibly concerned, responded bluntly that fraud is a dead-end path. “Crime is not a career,” he said. “Fraud is a trap. It destroys your reputation, your future and your peace. It cannot sustain you, your family or the next generation. Only value can.”

He further advised the teens to shun social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and peer pressure, warning that these destroy potential more dangerously than poverty itself. “Your destiny is too precious to waste on shortcuts,” he added.

Speaking on his personal journey, Emmanuel also narrated how he ventured into real estate, a move he described as “a marriage between purpose, exposure and pastoral experience.” He explained that counselling families over the years exposed him to patterns of financial mismanagement, prompting him to begin teaching and investing in stable assets. “Real estate taught me patience and structure, principles I also learned from ministry,” he said.

The programme featured several other speakers who delivered sessions on critical topics affecting teenagers. One of the facilitators spoke on Puberty and Adolescent Health, guiding the students through emotional, physical and psychological changes associated with their age and encouraging them to embrace responsible behaviour.

Another speaker explored Governance and Politics, encouraging the youngsters to see leadership as a tool for nation-building rather than personal enrichment. She reminded them that youths across the world increasingly influence policy direction and urged Nigerian students not to underestimate their civic responsibilities.

Two participating students shared heartfelt testimonies of how the programme reshaped their self-belief.

Ayomide Adeyemi, an SS2 student, said the finance session opened her eyes to the importance of saving and budgeting. “I used to think wealth was only for people born into rich families. Now I know I can build it too, if I start planning early,” she said.

Another student, Samuel Chukwuma, described the leadership class as “an awakening.” According to him, hearing Dr. Emmanuel speak about integrity and discipline made him reconsider the type of friends he keeps. “I have learnt that influence is real. You either have it or you fall for it,” he said.

In her remarks, the Founder of Opolo ati Ewa Women Empowerment Initiatives, Chief Mrs Adenike Emmanuel, reaffirmed her commitment to raising a new generation of responsible, focused and value-driven young people. She said past beneficiaries of the programme had shared testimonies of improved academic performance, better financial habits and renewed confidence.

Mrs Emmanuel added that many of the former participants now lead school clubs, volunteer in community initiatives and have gained clarity about their future ambitions. She urged the students present to take the sessions seriously and distance themselves from social vices that could destroy their aspirations. “Your life is bigger than the momentary excitement that bad habits give,” she said.

The programme closed with a charge from the organisers, reiterating their mission to raise a new breed of Nigerians without greed. Students left the auditorium with handbooks, mentorship opportunities and renewed determination to build a future anchored on character, knowledge and purpose.

Foundation installs transformer, pays school fees for hundreds, executes projects in Kogi communities

Businessman and philanthropist Idris Kashim Hussein has commissioned a number of projects sponsored by the Idris HK Foundation in parts of  Kogi State.

These include the newly completed erosion control project reconnecting  the Emewe Opada community to Lokoja after six months of isolation caused by a massive gully and an electricity transformer in Obeya Lile community.

He also flagged off electricity extension work at Ate Uge.

Idris and his entourage were received at Biraidu in Dekina Local Government Area by

HRM Acheneje Abdullahi, the Onu Ojomi  and HRM Matthew Daikwo, the Onu Igbologwu.

He was formally adopted as a son of Biraidu for his gesture.

At Emewe Opada community, leaders took turns to  testify to  how Idris single-handedly financed the reclamation work immediately after learning of their plight.

The community also commended the foundation for clearing the school fees of three hundred and fifteen students of Ofoji Community Secondary School.

“I feel highly honoured to use this opportunity, stating categorically that the management, the students and staff of the above mentioned school hereby convey their heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Idris HK for the bulk payment of school fees for the entire students of the school in recent times.

Abocho youth leader, Siaka Usman, also spoke in appreciation.

During a courtesy visit to HRM Shaibu Abu Okolo, the Ogohi Onu Anyigba, at his palace in Anyigba, Idris apologised for installing an electricity transformer in Obeya Lile community without first informing the royal father, explaining that he acted immediately after seeing a Facebook post about the community’s years without power.

The Ogohi described  the transformer as a personal gift since Obeya Lile are his subjects, and declared the entire Igala kingdom indebted to the businessman.

Idris  pledged to facilitate mobile network coverage for the Etutekpe community and paid school fees for students while promising to clear any remaining balances.

Speaking to journalists after the last event, Idris insisted that all his gestures remain purely humanitarian and carry no political colouration.

“As of today, I have no ambition for any political office. I am only a businessman who loves his people. But if one day the communities call on me to contest so I can serve them better, I will not disobey, because political office will give me greater resources and authority to execute capital projects that private efforts alone cannot handle,” he said.

He thanked the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government, John Urah for their exemplary leadership as well as their community developmental strides, noting that the foundation will continue to complement government’s efforts to better the lives of the people.

Radda urges new Defence Minister Musa to intensify military operations against bandits

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has urged the newly sworn-in Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), to intensify and sustain military operations against bandits operating in the northwest.

Radda made the call in a congratulatory message following the minister’s appointment and swearing-in by the President.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula, the governor described Musa’s appointment as strategic and reassuring for the country’s security landscape.

He said the minister’s extensive military experience, especially his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, positions him to drive the reforms and operational upgrades needed to combat insecurity nationwide.

“General Musa’s nomination and confirmation by the Senate come at a critical time when the nation needs experienced, strategic, and decisive leadership in the defence sector. His track record speaks volumes about his capacity to deliver results,” Radda stated.

The governor expressed confidence that the new minister would introduce fresh approaches and strengthen inter-agency coordination within the security sector. He also called for increased military pressure on bandits in the North-West and stressed the importance of improving welfare and motivation for frontline troops.

Radda reaffirmed Katsina State’s commitment to supporting national security efforts, noting that initiatives such as the Community Watch Corps were created to complement federal operations.

“We are ready partners in this fight. Katsina State has created an enabling environment for security agencies, and we look forward to working closely with the Ministry of Defence under General Musa’s leadership,” he said.

Fed govt reaffirms commitment to tackling insecurity in Nigeria

The federal government has restated its determination to address rising security challenges across the country, especially in the northern region.

This assurance was given by Alhaji Muhammad Auwal Amin, representative of the Counter Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Abuja, during a two-day capacity-building workshop on Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE).

The workshop, held at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, was organised by the Partnership Against Violence and Extremism (PAVE Network) with support from the North-East Youths Initiative for Development (NEYIF).

Amin disclosed that the NSA’s office, in collaboration with PAVE Network, has begun the process of domesticating the National Action Plan on PCVE in Jigawa State as part of renewed efforts to combat insecurity and enhance peacebuilding and community resilience.

The forum brought together key security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, media professionals, civil society organisations and youth groups under the theme, “Stakeholders’ Roles in Community Resilience and CB-RRR.”

Amin reaffirmed that the NSA’s office remains committed to assisting states in developing practical frameworks to counter violence and extremism.

  • Judges, magistrates urged to drive justice sector reforms

Judges, magistrates urged to drive justice sector reforms

    • …Wike tasked on growing street children menace in Abuja

Judges and magistrates in the country have been urged not to see themselves as just players in the justice delivery system, but as agents of change need to drive reforms required to ensure effective service delivery.

The President of the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS), Professor Yemi Akinseye-George (SAN) said this while speaking during the opening session of a workshop on “the Model Practice Direction on the implementation of the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and Administration of Criminal Justice Laws (ACJLs).”

The two-day capacity-building workshop is organised by the CSLS, with the support of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC).

Prof. Akinseye-George said, “As we engage in today’s sessions, I urge each of you (the judges and magistrates in attendance) to see yourselves, not merely as interpreters of orders, but as architects of justice reform.

“Your leadership, discipline, empathy, and willingness to innovate will determine how far these reforms travel into the daily lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The CSLS’ President explained workshop is intended to afford participants the opportunity to take a closer look at the proposed Model Practice Direction, which was developed through the collaborative efforts of stakeholders across the federation with the goal of filling gaps in the ACJA & ACJLs of the various states.

He noted that the Model Practice Direction equips judges and magistrates with powerful tools such as active case management, time-bound remand review, virtual hearings where appropriate, technology-driven record keeping, clearer standards for bail, and periodic audit of awaiting-trial cases, among others.

Prof. Akinseye-George expressed concern about the surge in the number of street children in Abuja and urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to quickly address the issue.

He said, “The phenomenon of street children which appears to be rising in Abuja must be addressed with urgency.

“We appeal to the Minister of the FCT to apply his proactive approach to project improvement to address the problem of street children in the FCT.”

Prof. Akinseye-George hailed the renewed efforts of the Federal Government to address the nation’s security challenge, which he noted, has began to yield results.

He commended the recent appointments recently made in the security sector by President Bola Tinubu and his directive for recruitment of security personnel as part of efforts to end insecurity.

Prof. Akinseye-George said such efforts should be supported with capacity building for law enforcement personnel to enable them device ways preventing attacks rather than responding or reacting after attacks have taken place.

He said, “I cannot conclude without expressing support for some of the concrete actions of the government aimed at improving the security situation in the country.

“The appointment of more competent professionals to man the security sector is notable. We also note with delight the planned recruitment of more personnel for the police and proactive actions being taken by the military to address rising cases of banditry and violent extremism.

“However, it is important to build the capacity of the law enforcement personnel and the military to prevent attacks rather than merely responding or reacting after attacks have happened.

“The capacity of the personnel must be strengthened so that they are able to go after the subversive elements who are hiding in the forests and other places only to come out and launch deadly attacks,” he said.

Prof. Akinseye-George added beyond military operations, governments at all levels must ensure the provision of economic opportunities for militants, bandits and insurgents, who are willing to abandon the lives of criminality.

Such efforts, he said, must involve the provision of free and compulsory secondary education for all children and young people from all over the country.

  • Security expert backs urgent call for border fencing to bolster Nigeria’s security

Security expert backs urgent call for border fencing to bolster Nigeria’s security

A renowned security expert and Chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Amb. Abayomi Mumuni has joined growing voices urging President Bola Tinubu-led federal government to urgently implement comprehensive border security measures, including the fencing of the nation’s porous borderlands.

In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, the security expert warned that Nigeria’s unguarded borders are enabling terrorist infiltration and worsening insecurity.

Recall that the new Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, had earlier this year made a similar call, stressing the urgent need to secure Nigeria’s borders.

He noted that the country’s porous borders greatly contribute to the influx of arms, movement of terrorists, and other serious security threats.

Amb. Mumuni called for the installation of secure fences along Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring countries, equipped with transponder systems for early detection and monitoring, citing successful global examples such as the U.S.-Mexico border, Israel’s security barriers, and India’s fortified borders with Pakistan.

According to him, Nigeria’s geographical position, sharing borders with several countries, makes it highly vulnerable to infiltration by terrorist groups.

Mumumi, a certified Counter Terrorism and Anti Terrorism practitioner, noted that recent events have exposed how porous these borders are and how easily they can be exploited.

He said the urgency of the situation cannot be overstated, adding that erecting a secure fence along the borderlands, equipped with transponder technology to detect unauthorized crossings, would significantly boost the country’s ability to monitor and respond to threats.

This, he stressed, would go a long way in safeguarding citizens and reinforcing national stability.

According to him, such infrastructure would greatly enhance Nigeria’s capacity to monitor and respond to external threats, thereby safeguarding national stability and the safety of citizens.

“Investing in border security infrastructure will not only prevent cross-border terrorism but also improve the overall security situation in the country. This initiative deserves urgent attention and adequate funding as a matter of national priority,” he noted.

He urged the Nigerian government to prioritize the fencing of the country’s borderlands, drawing inspiration from successful examples around the world.

•Bus driver shot dead, one hospitalised

•Security outfit joins Police, DSS, NSCDC to secure Ondo border

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have engaged suspected armed bandits in a fierce shootout inside a forest in the state, rescuing four kidnapped victims.

Commander of the Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, broke the news yesterday while parading five suspects arrested for various criminal offences, including kidnapping and fraud, at the agency’s headquarters in Akure.

Adeleye explained that the shootout followed an attack on a passenger bus by the suspected bandits, who killed the driver and abducted five passengers.

“The local security agency was alerted by a distress call reporting heavy gunfire in a forested area. This prompted the deployment of a rapid response team to rescue the abducted passenger.

“On entering the forest, our men came under heavy attack. At the end of the operation, we rescued four of the five kidnapped passengers, though the bus driver was shot dead when the attackers tried to stop the vehicle,” he said.

The Amotekun boss added that the rescue operation lasted over three hours, with operatives combing the forest.

He said among those rescued were three women and the bus conductor.

“One of the women, who had been shot by the attackers prior to Amotekun’s arrival, was stabilised at the corps’ health facility.

“Two of the suspected kidnappers, who allegedly fired at officers and killed the bus driver, were arrested during the operation,” he further added.

In a related development, Amotekun boss said his men also foiled the attempted abduction of a female Correctional Service Officer.

According to him, the suspects had posed as visitors assisting inmates before attempting to kidnap her.

“The officer escaped by raising an alarm near the Amotekun outpost at Cathedral Junction, where operatives rescued her and apprehended the suspects.”

However, he said the fifth suspect paraded was accused of defrauding his employer of N77.2 million, attempting to sell her property, and issuing death threats.

Commending the efforts of his men, Adeleye said the arrests resulted from multiple operations conducted over the past 48 hours under Operation Le Won Jade, supported by border patrol teams and the ongoing 24/7 ember-month security watch.

“There is no hiding place for criminals, bandits, or kidnappers in Ondo State,” the commander reiterated.

He added that Amotekun, in collaboration with the military, police, Department of State Service (DSS), civil defence, vigilantes, and local hunters, has intensified regional security coordination.

Adeleye, however, assured residents that major roads, communities, and public spaces across the Southwest are being reinforced to ensure a crime-free environment.
