Gbajabiamila, in a pre-recorded message, appreciated and commended a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliott, for putting the tournament together.

He also commended the players for their participation.

The chief of staff, who noted that he had been following the matches and display of skills, said the nature of his job didn’t allow him to participate physically.

“This is a tactical and strategic way of diverting the attention of our young people away from wrongdoings. So this is an opportunity to unleash the inherent potential in our young people.

“There’s no better way, or better avenue, to catch them young, to get the best talent out than in schools and various communities,” Fatodu said.

According to him, from the preliminaries to the final stage, the commission has been able to identify about 35 exceptional players who have the potential of getting to the highest level of their football career.

One of the lead sponsors of the tournament, Afolabi Aiyela, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Welbeck Electricity Distribution Limited, described the competition as an excellent idea. He said Welbeck was committed to bridging education and sports.

Ex-Southwest NANS coordinator hails Tinubu’s strides in education

The immediate past Southwest Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Alao John has lauded giant strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in education.

He commended Federal Government’s efforts in puting in place effective management in educational sector across the nation.

A statement by the ex-student leader thanked Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on students engagement, Com. Asefon Sunday, for bridging the gap between government and the students.

According to him, Students Loan (Access to Higher Education) Act 2023, The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) implemented to ensure no Nigerian child is denied access to further education by providing succour to students in the payment of school fees have been helpful.

He said: “Removal of all tertiary institutions staff from IPPIS has taken care of the primary cause of incessant strikes by academic staff unions, thus fostering academic stability.

“This action, following the increase in fees charged by a growing number of federal government tertiary institutions, as previous fees charged had long proved grossly insufficient, provided an alternative source of financing for the increasing number of tertiary level students.

“However, we would appreciate if the government could look into the fees increment. Though an alternative source of financing has been provided, the fees in itself tends to be outrageous.
