    Mariam Alaka releases double album

    Rising female Islamic choral singer, Hajia Mariam Alaka-Adeola aka Nurul Nabiy (Light Of The Prophet) is set to release a double album.

    The title of the album is “Dynamic Music (Volume 1&2).

    The album will be launched on the 23rd of May, 2025 at Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos state.

    Guest lecturer of the occasion is Sheikh Abdulkabeer Algamawy while popular Fuji star, Alhaji Suleiman Alao Adekunle popularly known as Malaika would be the guest artist.

    Hajia Mariam who started her career over 15 years ago and has released albums such as “Sweet Mother”, “Oore Odun”, “Zihiri” and “Tribute” in a statement issued by her management said: “I am about to break and set a new record in Islamic music industry in Nigeria. Since its inception, no Islamic singer has ever launched a double album and this would be the first time in history.

    “I’m very sure the album would make waves and resonate well with people because I gave my all after a series of research and hardwork. Also, I brought an entire new dynamic to Islamic music in the album and my fans and Muslims should be eager for it.”

    Aside Malaika, a host of Islamic artistes and prominent Nigerians, especially from Lagos Island axis where the singer was born and raised are expected at the album launch.

    Chichi Nworah picks second AMVCA gong

    Chinenye ‘Chichi’ Nworah has picked up her second AMVCA gong. The award was for her creation, ‘My FairyTale wedding,’ which features Ini Edo and Ramsey Nouah.

    In another recognition of her ingenious contributions to African films, the Nollywood powerhouse clinched the Best Scripted M-Net Original award at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

    The latest triumph follows Nworah’s previous AMVCA successes.

    In 2023, her gritty Netflix series Shanty Town garnered ten nominations and global acclaim, ranking as Netflix’s most-streamed African Original in Nigeria in the first half of 2023.

    In 2024, Slum King won Best Scripted M-Net Original, lauded for its raw portrayal of resilience in Lagos’ underbelly.

    Taking to her social media, Nworah celebrated the My Fairytale Wedding win, posting: “My Fairytale Wedding – Best M-Net Original (Scripted series) AMVCA 11 #amvca11. Congratulations to Team My Fairytale Wedding!”

    She also teased fans with suspense, adding, “Excited about What’s Next @giantcreativestudios. Coming soon.”

    Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham is set to make a big screen debut with her highly anticipated film, ‘Iyalode.’

    The project, directed by Adebayo Tijani and produced by Kolawole Ajeyemi in association with Film One Studios, is scheduled to premiere on June 6, with an exclusive advanced screening on June 4.

    “The crown doesn’t come without a fight. The battle for Ìyálóde has begun, and only one woman can wear the title,” she said, sharing the film’s trailer.

    The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Kehinde Bankole, Bukky Wright, Muyiwa Ademola, Wale Ojo and her husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi.

    Wizkid: We made ‘Wizkid: Long Live Lagos’ documentary when life got crazy

    Nigerian born global music star, Ayo Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid has opened up on a documentary that explores his journey from Lagos to global superstardom, ‘Wizkid: Long live Lagos.’

    In a recent announcement, Wizkid revealed that the documentary was made when life got crazy for him.

    It is of note that on July 29, Wizkid performed in front of a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, becoming the first African artist to earn that title with 45,000 fans in attendance.

    In the same year on August 18, Wizkid lost his dear mother, Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun to cancer.

    Recently the organisers of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York announced that the documentary will be premiering in June during the festival and will be screened at the festival on June 6, 7, and 11, 2025.

    In his words, “We made this documentary when life got crazy for me. Playing Tottenham Hotspur stadium while dealing with life! Glad I get to have my amazing fans and family on this journey with me. This is love! From a real place!”

    ‘Wizkid: Long Live Lagos’ is directed by Karam Gill and explores Wizkid’s journey from Lagos to global superstardom. It features interviews with key figures in his life and career, including Femi Kuti and Jada Pollock.

    Zunday calls for justice over Edo killing

    Nigerian music artist Ajakaiye Sunday aka Zunday, has raised his voice in grief and outrage following the tragic killing of a young boy in his hometown of Enwan Community, Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Edo State.

    On May 3, 2025, officers from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) reportedly from outside Edo State had stormed the peaceful community and shot dead a young boy, an only child of his parents. No explanation was provided, leaving a shattered family and community in mourning.

    Zunday, in a recent statement condemned the act as a national disgrace and expressed his heartbreak not just as a public figure, but as a son of the soil.

     “That child was not just a victim; he was his parents’ entire world,” he said. “Now, they are left with nothing but pain, and we are left with fear—fear of kidnappers, fear of robbers, and now, fear of those meant to protect us.”

    Zunday called on Hon. Peter Akpatason, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, and all political leaders intervened, stressing that “the people of Enwan are not only relevant when it’s time to vote.”

    According to the artist, “This is not just Enwan’s cry—it is Nigeria’s. A country that cannot protect its children is a country in crisis. We will not be silenced. We demand justice.”

    He demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the killing; identification and prosecution of the officers responsible; a public apology and adequate compensation for the bereaved family and legal reforms to regulate and restrict inter-state police operations.

    He moved to Lagos in 2017 to pursue music full-time, influenced by Nigerian and international stars such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tekno, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Rihanna.

    Papito Vibes on Raves not only solidifies Pailizzy’s position as a rising force in the Nigerian music industry but also affirms his ability to use music as a tool for storytelling and cultural expression.

    With this release, Pailizzy continues to carve a niche for himself in the ever-evolving Nigerian music scene. His journey, from a challenging childhood to emerging as a promising figure in Afro-fusion, is both inspiring and a testament to the transformative power of music.

    Veteran comedian and media personality, Yaw, who organized the event, described the night as a way of paying tribute to a woman who had opened doors for many entertainers during her time as First Lady.

    “I want to say thank you to everyone that came out tonight. We just thought about it and said it’s important to celebrate our mummy. She’s done a lot for us. She brought most of us comedians closer to the government house back then at Marina,” Yaw said.

    He added that every performer came willingly, without asking for pay, because of the love and respect they have for Mrs. Fashola. “As I reached out to everyone, I said Mama has been there for us and I want to do this to honour her, and they all agreed.     The event featured rib-cracking performances from comedians including Senator, Tee A, Forever-MC, ATM, Bowjoint, Lepacious Bose, MC Monica, and Phronesis, all of whom entertained the celebrant and her husband, former Governor and former Minister, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, who was also in attendance.

    Adding more colour to the night were surprise musical performances by Tosin Martins and pop star Korede Bello, who also gifted the celebrant his signature fragrance, Koredey. Rising artist Neo Phlames serenaded Dame Fashola with his viral hit Kadara, while live band sets further energized the audience.

    According to Yaw, ‘An Evening With’ will become a quarterly event to honour individuals who have contributed meaningfully to the growth and support of the entertainment industry.
