How I detected, survived breast cancer – Actress Tope Osoba

Actress Tope Osoba has opened up on experience with breast cancer, revealing how she discovered a lump in her breast through self-examination.

Initially, she said her doctor dismissed the lump, attributing it to her childbearing age.

However, Osoba’s persistence led to further testing, which confirmed the presence of cancer.

In an interview with BBC News Yoruba, Osoba shared the emotional turmoil she faced upon receiving the diagnosis, fearing the worst, including the possibility of her breast being removed.

Fortunately, additional tests showed that the cancer was contained and hadn’t spread.

Osoba underwent surgery and radiation treatment,.expressing gratitude for the financial support she received from colleagues, friends, and well-wishers.

With the help of Actress Foluke Daramola, who assisted in raising awareness and funds, Osoba was able to cover her medical expenses.

The actress declared that she is “free from breast cancer,” thanking God for her recovery.

She said: “The doctor had earlier told me that I would be placed on medication for five years and, during that period, I must not conceive. At the time, I was 39 years old. I discovered the issue one day while touching my body. I felt something on my breast resembling a bean that hadn’t been there before.

“Concerned, I went to a private hospital, where the doctor assured me nothing was wrong. The doctor attributed it to the fact that I was at the stage of childbearing but had neither conceived nor breastfed a baby. I initially accepted the doctor’s explanation and went home, but I remained uneasy because my hand kept going to that spot.

“Over time, I noticed it grew larger, making me even more uncomfortable. I got a test, and the results showed it was a lump. It was removed, and I believed everything was fine. However, when further tests were conducted at the hospital, it was discovered to be breast cancer.

“The day I received the diagnosis was one of the worst days of my life. I couldn’t believe I had such an illness. I started worrying—would my breast be removed? Would I die despite all my struggles, having no mother or father to support me? I began praying to God, acknowledging that while I wasn’t deeply religious, I had never wished anyone harm.

“When I returned to the hospital, they recommended a CT scan to determine if the cancer had spread. Thankfully, the results returned negative, showing only a few remaining particles. The doctor informed me that another surgery would be needed but assured me that my breast would not be removed.

“God surprised me again when the doctor said I wouldn’t need chemotherapy, only radiation. When the treatment started, I was given a bill, and I worried about how I would afford it. I reached out to colleagues and others. Some responded, while others did not.

“Eventually, I contacted Actress Foluke Daramola, who helped by reaching out to people on my behalf. She later informed me that the response was not massive because many people didn’t know me. That was why I decided to make a video showing my face to the public. Through it all, I received the help I needed, and by God’s grace, I am now free from breast cancer.”

  • P-Square A crumbled legacy

    P-Square A crumbled legacy

The duo of Peter and Paul Okoye would easily occupy a seat on the table of Nigerian music stars that braved all odds to make music and conquer the world.

Sadly, the seats will not be occupied without the burden of what many have regarded as a crumbled legacy.

The twins had a fantastic run between 2003 and 2016. P-Square duo were everywhere and anywhere making history and adding joy to several of their fans across the world. They performed at shows, concerts, gigs and became household names.

Interestingly the P-Square brothers had an elder brother, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, who had always been in the picture. He was reputed to be the twins’ manager for over a decade until things fell apart and what many have believed would be a musical legacy of the singers cum show performer crumbled like badly arranged playing cards.

While they reigned supreme, the twins seemed inseparable and they complemented one another in every facet of their lives. They lived together, alongside their elder brother cum manager, bought the same cars, had the same vision and worked together to ensure their aims and visions were actualised.

However, those close to the twins insisted that all hadn’t been well within the family for a long time. In fact, close sources claimed, the twins never had issues with each other but their elder brother.

Allegations and counter allegations bordered on doing things right and following the right process at all times while Jude believes things and business should be done in his own way and however he perceives it.

The singular mindset has continued to cause and further destroy the musical legacy the twins built over the years.

While Peter insists on ensuring things are done properly – especially when P-Square is concerned, Jude remains resolute in his ways while Paul takes sides with Jude on any of his decisions.

If the brothers, who live in different properties situated on a common ground, were just engaging in brickbats and social media frenzy, it would have been okay but the strain in their relationship has been further heightened by lawsuits and recently, the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

As the seeming show of shame continues in the family, the music legacy keeps dwindling and the music duo keep losing fans and funds.

In response, Dabota insisted she had moved past their differences, but Sophia’s comment suggested otherwise.

During the confessionals, Carolyna dismissed claims that she was forming a clique, throwing shade at Diiadem for always siding with Dabota. “Diiadem is trying to play Voltron with Dabota because they are friends,” she remarked.

She also called out Mariam, saying, “If you can’t talk to Diiadem about your issues but come to me instead, you make it look like I am the problem.”

With the trip behind them, Carolyna decided to bring the ladies together once again, hosting a baking session and even inviting Laura.

Over a casual conversation, the women recapped the beachcation drama, with Carolyna and Sophia making it clear they were unimpressed.

“Dabota is not a good hostess,” Carolyna said, recalling a past visit where Dabota served her food but didn’t eat with her.
