    My brand is symbol of freedom, says Dreymakanaki

    For emerging musical talent, Musedeek Abiola Damilare aka Dreymakanaki, his brand repre sents a symbol of freedom for every African child.

    Dreymakanaki has distinguished himself as a realist, who understands what is real and possible in a particular situation.

    “I think we’re in an industry dominated by artists and solid bodies who can’t be their real self in public because they feel very uncomfortable about it but being real with my music is what I find as my main focus and my goal is to succeed,” said Dreymakanaki.

    He noted consistency as one of his special features as an artist saying: “My message is consistent with my music because in everything I do I try not to be like nobody and still try not to settle for less while I don’t go out of my lane.”

    On his long and short-term goals, he said: “My short- term goals are just to work with the good artist on the ground level where I started from, and then push the project in my little way as I believe shining together gives a brighter sight of what’s coming. My long term goal is to make every living African realise that we’re giants when we bind together as one.”

    In furtherance of the activities marking its 20th-anniversary celebrations, Africa Magic has taken select members of its audience on a tour of its production studios in Lagos.

    The studio tour gave the fans a rare experience of Africa Magic Studios, SuperSport sets for SuperPicks and Monday Night Football, Tinsel set, and the Big Brother Naija House.

    On the tour, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice West Africa, Dr. Busola Tejumola, said the audience had been a key part of the Africa Magic journey, and it was natural to include them in the 20th anniversary celebrations

     “Our two decades of indigenous storytelling wouldn’t have been possible without our audience. They are key to the story we tell and this celebration will not be complete without the audience being part of it. These studios have produced over 30,000 hours of content enjoyed by the audience in the last two decades. So we decided to give a sample of the audience the opportunity to have a feel of studios and also meet some of the brains behind the magic we see on the screen.”

     On the tour were Channel Head, Africa Magic, Tayo Adetunji, SuperSport Presenter Mozez Praiz, BBNaija’s Groovy Mono and  actress Tope Olowoniyan (who played Cleo on the set of Tinsel).

    During the tour, the actress acknowledged the role of Africa Magic in her career. “I cannot talk about my career without a mention of Africa Magic. I got my first role on Tinsel. I had my growth with Nollywood fundamentally because of Africa Magic. They’ve been doing this for 20 years and it keeps getting better. They’ve raised the bar for production and talent welfare,” Olowoniyan said.

     Lonzo Nzekwe’s Orah to open AFRIFF 

    Nigerian-Canadian filmmaker Lonzo Nzekwe’s film Orah is scheduled to open the 12th edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

    This edition will run from November 5 to 11, in Lagos, Nigeria.

     In keeping with the festival’s tradition, AFRIFF’s Founder & Festival Director Chioma Ude announced Orah as its opening night movie, a bold step to drive home the 2023 theme: Indigenous 2.0 Global to participating Nigerian and international movie enthusiasts who would  grace the festival’s annual opening gala night.

    Orah is written and directed by Lonzo Nzekwe, who became famous for his film Anchor Baby. Filmed in Canada and Nigeria, Orah is produced by Nzekwe, Floyd Kane and Amos Adetuy.

    Orah is produced by Circle Blue Entertainment and Freddie Films, in association with IronFlix Inc. with the participation of Telefilm Canada, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), and ONCreates Film Fund. Level Film is the Canadian distributor.

    On the festival,  Chioma Ude said: “Filmmaking is evolving rapidly in Africa with Nigeria at the forefront of the renaissance and this year’s edition is designed to continue to reiterate the opportunities for African films and storytelling to reflect ‘global’ perspectives for the sustained success of more local films globally. We intend to continue to empower our storytellers to explore ideologies and techniques that connect with the larger global audience. ‘Orah’ is positioned as the open night movie to drive this expectation.”

    Debrah Waters makes wave as Nigeria’s queen of content

    One of the wave-making media personalities creating content in Nigeria at the moment is Debrah Waters.

    Over the years, Debrah has navigated her way on-screen and off-screen as a TV presenter, content producer and director.

    Carving a niche for herself in the entertainment industry as the ‘queen of content’, the computer scientist has showcased her imbued talents while working with EbonyLife TV, TVC Nigeria and GreenLotto Nigeria. She works with Silverbird TV and Rhythm FM.

    On her foray into the broadcasting world, Debrah said it wasn’t an easy journey.

     “I started presenting professionally in 2017, as a game show host for a lottery firm. It was so insightful, fun and different from the conventional music and talk show presentations I used to do back in my school days. In 2020, I launched a podcast on YouTube called Deep Waters where I bring in people to talk about things that are mostly personal to them. We discuss deep controversial topics. Deep Waters launched me fully into the TV industry.

    Lagos graduates Gidi Creative Centre first cohort

    It was all about creativity last Wednesday, when The Temple Company and Ogidi Studios held Gidi Creative Centre’s first graduation and talent showcase ceremony at the main auditorium of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

    The centre, which is powered by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration, under its programme tagged Lagos State Creative Industry Initiative (LACI), witnessed the attendance of many young creatives.

    Facilitators were drawn from University of Lagos, and Henley Business School as well as established figures within the Nigerian creative industry.

    The graduation and showcase ceremony was the climax for the first cohort.

    Dignitaries at the event included Commissioner for Arts, Tourism & Culture Toke Benson-Awoyinka and UNILAG Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola

     The event also featured Seyi Vibes who thrilled graduands, attendees and other dignitaries.

     The creative sector initiative trained 200 youths across 10 skill areas, including filmmaking, creative writing, animation 101, audio engineering and music production, graphics design, multimedia-design, film and screen production design, project management for creative professionals, fashion design and media studies.

     The graduation was also attended by GCE/Founder, Temple Company, Idris Olorunnimbe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, and Director, Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre, UNILAG, Prof. Sunday Adebisi.

    Society shouldn’t tell men how many women to have – Rapper Erigga

    Hip-hop artiste, Erhiga Agarivbie aka Erigga, has said men shouldn’t be questioned if they decide to be with multiple women if they have financial freedom.

    He said men shouldn’t be blamed because of what the societal norms have vested in them.

    Speaking in a recent interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Lagos, the Warri-born rapper argued that the society believes that men don’t deserve women if they don’t have money.

    He added that the same society shouldn’t judge them if they decided to have multiple women after making money.

    He said: “A society that tells the guy you are not supposed to have a woman until you have money should not tell the person how many women he can have when he has that money.”

    Speaking on his career and his struggle to maintain stardom, Erigga said he has had to “blow thrice”, stressing that he always bounced back anytime he falls off the spotlight.

    Wunmi, the widow of the late rapper, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba aka MohBad, has broken the silence after the demise of her 27-year-old husband.

    Wunmi has concurred to run a DNA test on her son, Liam, to ascertain the paternity of the 6-month-old baby.

    The Nation reported the Pandemonium that rocked the internet space over a demand for a paternity test on the child MohBad left behind.

    The late rapper’s father, Mr Joseph Aloba, had made it clear that a DNA test was necessary, demanding that it should be conducted in his or his representative’s presence.

    Revealing the conversation Wunmi had, Actress Iyabo Ojo shared on her Instagram that Mohbad’s wife is also open to a DNA test on her son.

    She shared a screenshot of a message from the late singer’s wife that read: “Hello ma’

    I’ve decided not to speak on anything until the 7th of November, which is the coroner’s inquest because I do not want any side distraction, all I want is Justice for my husband which I believe the Nigeria government are working on, after everything, I’ll either grant an interview or tell my own story before the whole world, and also, DNA is definitely a must!!!”

    Ojo captioned the post; “To everyone who wants to hear from Mohbad’s wife, this is her response…

    “Ikeja General Hospital, please, we hope that by the 7th of November 2023, the next date for the coroner inquest, the full autopsy results will be out. We’re not giving up on this justice for Mohbad, no matter the dragging, noise makers or distractions.”

    Singer Mayorkun tackles govt officials on bad roads

    African pop artist, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel aka Mayorkun has called out members of the National Assembly to put in more efforts in fixing roads rather than spending money on extraneous things.

    Many have criticised the lawmakers for priposed procurement of 2023 model Toyota Prado SUV at N160m each.

    The Chairman, Senate Committee on Services, Sunday Karimi, justified the purchase of the vehicles in a chat with journalists, saying “Nigerian roads are bad.”

    Reacting via his Snapchat page recently, singer Mayorkun urged the lawmakers to fix Nigerian roads instead of buying vehicles for themselves.

    Florence Otedola, the daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, has reached out to her fans for assistance in acquiring a new iPhone 15 Pro Max, following the loss of her previous phone.

    DJ Cuppy, as she is known, recently shared her ordeal of being robbed of her phone by thieves in Soho, London.

    She speculated that since it is customary for fans to gift their favourite celebrities items such as phones, cars, and houses, she has contemplated asking her fans, whom she affectionately calls “Cupcakes,” to help her obtain a new phone.
