    Record label proprietors launch new Initiative

    With the aim of promoting and protecting the interests of its record company members in the Nigerian music industry, stakeholders have launched a new initiative, The Record Label Proprietors’ Initiative (RELPI).

    RELPI, according to the stakeholders, acts as the collective voice for the Nigerian recording industry on issues of policy, protection and enforcement of the intellectual property rights of its members, and engagement with commercial music users, regulators, government, trade associations, etc. in furthering the interests of its members.

    The launch and unveiling of RELPI had two panel sessions that dealt with critical issues that affect the recorded music business in Nigeria and Africa.

    The first panel moderated by the RELPI Board Secretary and Partner at Punuka Attorneys and Solicitors, Isioma Idigbe discussed the topic, The Value of Recorded Music and the Role of National Groups presented by the South African National Group, RiSA, Financial Director, Nishal Lalla. On the panel were Sipho Dlamini, President, Gamma Africa and Middle East, Adipo Otieno, Regional Licensing and Policy Lead, SSA, IFPI and speaker, Nishal Lalla.

    The second panel moderated by the General Manager of Nigeria’s oldest record company, Premier Records limited, Michael Odiong, treated the topic, Navigating the Changing Landscape of the Recorded Music Industry in the Digital Era – the Role and Value of Record Labels in the Modern Music Ecosystem presented by the MD, UMG Southern and East Africa, Manusha Sarawan. On the panel were the speaker, Manusha Sarawan, Tega Oghenejobo, COO, Mavin Records and Chairman of RELPI, Aibee Abidoye, EVP Chocolate City, Titilope Adesanya, Director of Operations, Empire.

    Also present at the event were representative of the DG of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Lynda Alphaeus, Juliana Oboh-Joseph, Daniel Owolabi, Ikechukwu Onuorah, Foza Fawehinmi, Efe Omorogbe, Obi Asika, Justin Ige, Iredumare Opeyemi, and Angela Ndambuki amongst others.

    Actress Kehinde Bankole has finally spoken on her battle with hair loss and receding hairline.

    A couple of days ago, Bankole mulled sharing a secret on something she’d been struggling with.

    She noted ‘It was really important that as she’s been dealing with it for years and managing but kept getting worse.’

    The movie star detailed her predicament even in a new video where she also revealed the state of her hair to viewers.

    She said: “Hey guys, thank you so much for the love after my last post. There’s nothing wrong, it’s just that I need help with my hair. I’m not joking”, she said, turning around to show the back of her head with the hair almost all fallen off.

    “I barely have any to weave anymore. My hair would grow, fall, grow back. And now, when it grows back, it doesn’t grow as full as it was before. I have hair liner receding, it was about here before (indicating the point), full head of hair but now it’s getting scanty; not growing back as it used to before.

    “I found a clinic in Lagos, Nigeria, I’m going there. I didn’t know that I could get permanent hair treatment in Nigeria, I know of abroad for sure. And I was thinking the cost will be high but now that I’ve found this place in Lagos, I want my journey to be as transparent as possible. I wanted you to just embolden me, to carry me along because as they say, ‘a woman’s hair is her crown’.

    “This is my confidence, this is my beauty. I really would like everything to be restored back. I want you to come along on the journey and I’m encouraging somebody with this to get out from under that wig.”

    Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy has ranked himself on the same level with American music legends.

    The ‘African Giant’ lamented the lack of faith and belief of Nigerians towards him.

    Burna Boy made the assertion in an interview with Los Angeles Times.

    The ‘stand tall’ crooner expressed displeasure at how Nigerians often rate upcoming American rappers above him because of the manner in which he speaks on issues.
