  • AY in interview about me full of lies – Basketmouth

AY in interview about me full of lies – Basketmouth

Popular radio personality Nedu has got comedian Basketmouth to address his long-standing beef with colleague and ‘friend’ Ayo Makun aka AY on the latest episode of the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast’.

To the astonishment of many, Basketmouth clearly stated that 90 percent of the claims made by AY during his interview with Chude Jideonwo were lies.

Addressing the alleged friendship AY claimed existed between them before they fell out as a result of N30,000 which Basketmouth ‘cunningly’ tried to withhold from him, the comedian emphasised they were never at any point friends.

He explained the only time they came together was when he fixed AY on their ‘Laugh and Jamz’ show at the time following Ali Baba’s instruction.

He said the issue of 30k wasn’t responsible for strangling the tiny chance of relationship they would have probably had but AY’s decision to share an information that ought to have been privy.

Setting the records straight about the supposed N30k, Basketmouth noted contrary to AY’s claim, there were no clients in the picture.

He said it was just three persons involved, including  AY, his lawyer, Magnus and himself.

He said when he heard AY had not been paid after his performance, he immediately put a call through to Magnus and he was paid.

I’m his usual style of kicking off his interviews, Nedu asked: “AY na your friend? To which Basketmouth responded, ‘No’.

Delighted to have a response, Nedu continued. “Talking about AY, thank God say you answer me. I know say you no wan enter this matter. No vex. No be say we dey put you on the spot.

“But you know say plenty people don dey run with different narratives. Several people, especially the ladies saying if truly Basketmouth did this and that then, he’s wrong

“However there’s one thing AY said you said that I can I attest to, which is when Basketmouth told him, ‘I am a beast’. You are a beast. That one na true.”

Opening up on the matter, Basket mouth stated: “It’s so sad that in 2023, this is what we’d be talking about after election. Ukraine is fighting war and we’re talking about N30k. I didn’t want to talk about this thing but just to set the records straight.

“Number one, AY is not my friend. We have never been friends. I’ve never visited his house. I’ve never personally invited him to my house.

“I never ever call am one day day, ‘O boy, where you dey? Make you hang out. What’s going on? This…this…nothing.’ Nothing like that ever happened.

“And it’s easy to tell. If you look around on social media, you’ll never find a picture and me and him. It’s not there.

“So, we were never friends. Wetin happen na Ali Baba call me, ‘Yoh Bright, check this guy out, put him on. So I put him on ‘Laughs and Jamz’ back then. We for come together, start something; maybe.”

Basket mouth continued: “This is where I need to correct something. I lied. There was one time I threw one lie

“The reason I used style mind my business was when there was that coming together, I use style hear somethings that threw me off, wey I suppose hear or know. So as I hear am, I was like, “WTF! Really?!” I no suppose know. And I no fit tell am, so I gat to keep quiet.

“So I waited. The kind of person I am, I go wait make you do something first. So, all these ones wey him dey talk, no be wetin make me give am space be that o! No! It’s something else.

As for the N30,000 which AY claimed sparked off their feud, Basketmouth noted: “But that 30k incident sef, I don forget. But I dey use that one as distraction and smoke screen. Because you know the kind person wey I be, if I dey talk right, I dey talk left. I no dey like make person know my moves.

“So, that matter, no client dey involved o! In actual fact, when this matter come outside, when I first hear the thing, I say, ‘What?!’ Like say na 20% of wetin him talk sef na lie, I for don vex talk say you know what, let me settle this….

“But when 90% of wetin him talk na lie. I still dey in shock. All my men dey laugh me. Because they warned me say guy be careful. And see wetin happen. The one job, na one job o! Hin come make am feel like say there was a tutorship or mentoring thing, never!

“But you know the kind men wey dey around me, funny men. How I go jump them come go dey give this guy shows?

“And when I hear say them never pay am, I told Magnus immediately, ‘Please pay him’. And they paid him. He omitted that information o!

The 44-year-old humour merchant explained AY granted the interview so that he could sell tickets for his show.

He insisted AY did something he quite expected of him however, decided to stay away from him because of that singular deed. Though he refused stating in clear terms what his colleague did.

He said: “I know the move, the guy dey promote shows. He needs to sell tickets. That’s the truth. When I saw the interview, I was like, ‘What the hell?!’ I come dey laugh. Because no client dey involved. Na him, me and Magnus.

“He did something and that thing sef no even vex me because I was expecting him to do it. So, as hin do that one, I say na this one I go use give am space.

“So, we no ever, no be say friendship dey, e come spoil. There was never a time, never. My wedding wey him say….I no invite am. I did no invite him. I no even know say dem invite hin wife. Do you understand?”
