RHoAbuja: Princess, Tutupie’s bond stands test of time

In the world of reality TV, friendships can often be fleeting, but on Real Housewives of Abuja, the friendship between Princess and Tutupie seems to be standing the test of time.

Despite some minor bumps in the road, the two have remained steadfast in their support for each other on the show.

Their friendship started long before the show, and it’s clear that they have a genuine bond that goes beyond the cameras.

When Tutupie was accused of drinking too much at a party, Princess was quick to defend her, stating that Tutupie was simply having fun and that the other ladies were making a bigger deal out of it than necessary.

However, their friendship hasn’t been without its challenges.

A case was when Princess made a comment about her husband warning her to be careful around Tutupie, Tutupie was understandably hurt and upset. But after Princess explained her reasoning, the two were able to move past it and continue to support each other.

So far on the show, it seems like it’s often the two of them against the other ladies. They defend each other, have each other’s backs, and seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company.

On one hand, they do share some similarities in behaviour. They both have strong personalities and aren’t afraid to speak their minds, even if it means going against the rest of the group. They also both seem to be confident, independent women who don’t need validation from others.

On the other hand, their friendship seems to be based on a deeper level of trust and understanding that goes beyond just superficial similarities. They have a history together and seem to genuinely care about each other’s well-being, even when they don’t always see eye-to-eye.

    Mr Raggamufin faults motivational speakers

Veteran musician, Daniel Wilson aka Mr. Raggamufin has come down hard on motivational speakers on some of their inspirational quotes.

Wilson, who ruled the airways in the late 80s and 90s with popular hit songs like ‘999,’ ‘Omolakeji,’ ‘heartbreaker,’ ‘abortion’ etc, particularly took exception to a general quote about motivational speakers talking about the importance of ideas without money in starting off a business.

The Original Bad Boy (OBB) insisted that there is no business that can start off without money no matter the idea.

He made his observation on his Facebook page saying, “motivational speakers say, don’t worry about money just get started on your business idea first and everything will fall into place and I ask, how does one get started on any idea without money? In my experience in business, capital is everything. Capital is king! Nobody starts anything without capital! You will age and die with your ideas without adequate financing, so go find money abeg.”

  • Victor Okpala speaks on indigenous series, Nwanyi Ike

Victor Okpala speaks on indigenous series, Nwanyi Ike

Nigerian filmmaker, Victor Okpala has opened up on his journey to filming a new indigenous series entitled ‘Nwanyi Ike.’

In a chat with The Nation, Okpala discussed the challenges and other knotty issues he had to examine before finally going on location to make the series.

“My first thought when I saw the script was acceptability. I thought of how people were going to receive this new series in Igbo language. And then I am walking out of Lagos state. How am I going to make it popular among my people in the region, in the southeast region and the south region, where you have Igbos living predominantly, and then in Lagos here, outside the south and southeast, Lagos, Abuja and other cosmopolitan cities, how was I going to make it very received by the people. They’re already used to English channels. They’re used to their other streaming platforms. How do I drive that same eyeball to the Africa Magic Igbo on Dstv?”

Continuing on his challenges, Okpala, who is the executive producer and lead director said, “So it was a huge challenge for me because I didn’t set out to do indigenous series in indigenous language. I wanted to do it in English. In fact, when I pitched the idea, it was English. I pitched it originally down the line as well, having conversation, saying, oh, this story looks like something that will be fit for this channel because of its peculiarity. Can I do it in Busala? I was asking, Can I do it in Igbo language? Yeah, I mean, I’ve done a couple of stuff as an independent producer. I’ve done a couple of series and films in Igbo language for the African Magic Channel. So I say, why not? That’s how the journey started. So I was very sceptical of the reception among the people based on what they are really used to and all that. But I also know that these boards differ. So I know that if we do something good, something very interesting, people will follow. So I had that worry from the beginning.”

On the acceptance of more series in indigenous languages, Okpala said, “In my opinion, I would say that creativity and work of art has no language barrier, has no colour, it has no creed, it has nothing.”

If you do something very good in Igbo language, people will watch it. If you do something very good in Hausa language, people will watch it. If you do something very good in the Indian language, and you give good subtitles, people can follow. People watch. Any examples are bound everywhere, the streaming platform, and even in a local cinema exhibition and local cinema film exhibitions. It doesn’t matter the language. You do a creative work that is properly done with the right ingredients, this story is strong and well told with all the right production values in place, people will watch.

“I think even if you do something nonsense in English, people will not watch. It doesn’t matter whether it’s English or you go or else or you’re done. The opportunity is so long that it is properly done and the story is captivating, and it is something that people can be lit with and follow, people will watch. So I don’t think that there’s any difference between English and indigenous language production.”
