Why some people are still virgins – Toyo Baby

Actress Juliana Olayode, popularly known as Toyo Baby, an alias she got from starring as Toyosi in the series, Jenifa’s Diary has shed light on why some people are still virgins.

The s3xual purity advocate said some people are not not necessarily because it’s what they desire but simply because they don’t have the opportunity to engage in s3xual relation with others

Olayode stated this on the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast with media personality, Nedu and co-hosts.

She said: “Some people are just virgins because they’ve not had the opportunity to have s3x not because they want to stay that way.

“Some people practice celibacy because they are looking for the right person that they can sleep with.”

Sharing an experience which left him confused, Nedu stated: “I’ve met somebody that said, ‘I’m celibate now. I’ve been celibate for two years now. I don’t need a man in my life. My dildo and vibrator is my man.’

‘So, what is now the celibacy because you are still entering there now.”

  • S3x-for-roles can’t be stopped – Ruby Ojiakor

    S3x-for-roles can’t be stopped – Ruby Ojiakor

Actress Ruby Ojiakor has compared the menace of s3x-for-roles in Nollywood to a cartel, expressing doubt anything could be done to end it.

The Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu graduate in an interview with Punch explained s3x-for-roles in the movie industry has been deeply embedded in the core fabric of the system.

She explained individuals those who attempted to report such cases would simply be wasting their time because the offenders would gang up against them since they’re closely knitted.

Orjiakor recalled how she was yanked off a movie she was already shooting as lead actress with popular Ghana actor, Majid Michel for not obliging the marketer’s s3x-for-role demand.

She noted despite having successfully shot some scenes with Majid, the marketer swiftly replaced her with another actress, deleting all her scenes because of refusal to ‘get down’ with him.

“I remember when I was called for a job in Enugu and we shot it for two days. I was supposed to be the female lead character in the movie. The marketer that owned the job wanted to ‘get down’ with me. But, I told him I could not do such a thing”, she explained.

“I thought that since I had started shooting some scenes in the movie, nothing could be done to me and he cannot cancel my scenes, which I shot with Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel, then.

“I also felt Majid would not want to re-act the scenes he had done before. Those factors made me think that the producer’s decision to change me would be fruitless.

“But to my surprise, I was not called to continue my scenes. When I challenged the production manager, he said I should not be angry because someone else had been called to play the role. I was not given any reason for being removed from that project.

“I asked if Majid agreed to re-shoot those scenes and I was told he was paid extra money to do so. That was how I lost a movie role because I refused to sleep with the owner of the movie. The scenes I had already shot were wiped out from that movie. That was a painful experience, but I have moved on,” she said.

Commenting on s3xual advances from movie makers and how reporting to their fellow offenders would be a futile effort, she advised actresses on what to do to overcome the challenge.

Orjiakor added: “I don’t think anything can be done to stop sexual advances from filmmakers. Some people have tried to report them, but it has not yielded any positive result.

“When an actress reports an offender, she is practically setting herself up for a fall. The offenders know themselves, and if one person reports any of them, they would gang up against that actress in the industry, and she would not be getting movie roles.

“It is just like a cartel. The best thing is to train oneself and be firm that even if others are doing it, one will not do it. That was what I did.”

  • Real Warri Pikin: Marriage failure isn’t determined by celebrity status

Real Warri Pikin: Marriage failure isn’t determined by celebrity status

Unlike the Nigerian film industry, the stand-up comedy industry is not one where many women have been able to break the barrier and make a career out of their passion. However, a female practitioner in the comedy business is smiling to the bank after making a name for herself.  Anita Asuoha, who is widely known as Real Warri Pikin speaks to OLAITAN GANIU on why the industry is dominated by men, her secret of staying relevant, how she manages male admirers among other issues.

You started as a dancer before breaking into stand-up comedy, tell us about this journey?

I started my dancing career many years ago and won several awards. In 2018, I decided to follow the trend of making short videos of things happening around me. The transition came from the space I was in. I needed to let people know what God did for me and I did it in a very funny way and my comedy journey sprang from there.

Dancing, comedy, or acting, which would you say is most rewarding financially, and which one is the most taxing?

Anything content creation is taxing. All the forms of creativity that you just mentioned are all taxing but to me, comedy comes seamlessly because it is kind of part of me. The reason is that an average ‘waffarian’ is a comedian. I do not have to do so much to be funny. Comedy is more financially rewarding.

Stand-up is highly dominated by men, how did you manage to create a niche for yourself?

I have a goldfish mentality. Anywhere I am, inside the water as a goldfish, they must see me. I do not believe the school of thought that women cannot make it in comedy. I worked twice as hard to stand out and create a niche for myself.

So, why are there not more women in the comedy industry?

There are not many women in the comedy industry because of the fear of the unknown. They do not have so much courage to dominate the comedy industry.

What’s the highest you have ever been paid and the lowest you have been paid?

Lol. I’ve been paid well but na wa oh. Make I com talk the amount when dem dey pay me so dem fit way lay me for road. Lol. I go pass this question oh.

As an actress, what determines the role you play?

The script determines the character and the kind of role I play.

You were actively involved in citizen engagement this past election on social media, what are your reasons for this?

Yes. I’m so passionate about my country. I did not publicly support a particular candidate on the internet but I made sure I used all my social media platforms to encourage my fans and everyone to vote.

As a married woman, how do you combine work and family?

I always use work-life balance and integration. I involve my husband in everything I do. It’s not always easy but I try to make it up and balance everything by planning properly.

How do you handle your male admirers?

I easily brotherzone them and with the way I put my husband out there, it’s really difficult for most of them to talk in that light.

How true is the notion that celebrity marriages are doomed to fail?

I do not think so. Most celebrities have amazing marriages. Being a celebrity does not determine failure in any marriage.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous?

Let me start with the disadvantages. Most people feel being a celebrity automatically turns you into a perfect being. Some go dey assume say na solar you dey use, say nor be blood dey your vein. They forget we all make mistakes regardless of our position and they expect so much. You have little or no privacy. On advantages, I would say being able to use my fame to impact people positively, the access that comes with fame and having supportive fans.

What is the focus of RealWarriPikin Foundation (RWP) and how did it all began?

It started five years ago, 2018 to be precise. I started the foundation after my kids were sent out of school because we couldn’t pay their fees. I said to myself that in this life, I will pay other children’s fees as well.

So far, what’s your foundation’s major achievement?

My foundation has been able to pay for more than 100 students’ school fees and also a provision of the basic amenities needed for their schooling. We do not just do the back-to-school project but we also do the Women One million naira challenge in the month of March. We give the sum of one hundred thousand Naira each to ten women who have been in business for a minimum of six months. This has been done for four years. We also reach out to therapists and mental health agencies every month of May regarding mental health awareness.

How do you feel after empowering market women this year in Abuja?

I’m thrilled to support women’s empowerment on International Women’s Day. As a woman in the entertainment industry, I’ve seen the challenges that women face while pursuing their dreams. I believe that investing in women is crucial for creating a more equitable and just world.

Any special words for your fans?

I want to give a special shout-out to my die-hard fans who have been there for me since I started this journey. I appreciate and love them because they have been my inspiration and push me anytime I feel down, I remember how they celebrate and support me. That keeps me going a whole lot. I want to tell all my friends to take life easy. Na who buy a car first, buy old model. Make we dey use our HQ. Whatever you cannot control, leave it. At the end of the day, it’s not a problem but a process. I love you all.

Iyabo Ojo, fan hail Keppy Ekpeyong at 60

Iyabo Ojo has revealed the unforgettable role her senior colleague and film legend Keppy Ekpeyong played in her career as a young actress.

The multiple award winning actress and social media influencer disclosed that the veteran actor played a key role in her life 25 years ago which made her who she is today.

Ojo made this statement while celebrating Ekpeyong’s 60th birthday recently.

“Today, I celebrate a great man, an icon, my God sent Keppy Ekpenyong. That little referral note you gave me 25 years ago to give Uncle’s Matthias (then director) was my starting point to a now beautiful and successful career as an actor,” she began with the eulogy.

She said further, “My success story can never be complete without you. Happy 60th birthday, and may you continue to flourish in God’s grace and blessings. Thank you and your beautiful wife for opening your doors to me, accepting and believing in me, I’m forever grateful, sir.”

In the same vein, an Instagram user testified to Ojo’s claim revealing her encounter with Ekpeyong.

She wrote, “I can actually testify to this act. I met him at the gym in the stadium while training in 2019/2020. I was a corper then, he trained me “intensively because he was brutal” that day. I told him I was a corper then and he gave me two contacts to message that day for a job.  Even though they did not really open arms to me, he made a move that I never expected from a celebrity that does not know me at all and he also gave me his contact to follow up. He is indeed a great man. May doors of opportunities continue to open for you and your family.”

  • Nobert Young: Actors retire only in death

Nobert Young: Actors retire only in death

Veteran Nigerian actor Nobert Young has reiterated that actors only retire when they die as retiring isn’t an option.

“It’s my work and in my work, retiring is not an option. Acting is what I studied in school and it’s what I’m practising. And as far as I’m concerned, you don’t retire from your job, you only retire when you’re dead, he said in a chat with The Nation.

Young, the star of many films, said he doesn’t see himself retiring because he is a very dedicated personality, who is equally disciplined.

“I guess some directors still find me useful and so people still keep using me to do the job. Also, if I do say so myself, I am a very dedicated person as well as disciplined and I also take my job seriously. Those are the things that have kept me going, and also as God wants. But I would say basically, it’s my job and it’s what I love to do and I don’t expect to retire till I am dead.”

The ‘Lahira’ actor also said his next passion after acting is teaching. He went to say he currently teaches acting.

“I studied acting and so I’m expected to be acting. If I wasn’t acting, I probably would be teaching. Maybe teaching about acting or anything because teaching is my next passion. I am currently teaching right now,” he said.
