Performing with Kizz Daniel in Qatar a dream come true, says singer Dapo Pelmar

Fast rising singer, Dapo Pelmar, who was among the top six finalists at The Voice Nigeria season 3, has described performing alongside the “Buga” and “Odo” crooner Kizz Daniel at the World Cup in Qatar as a dream come true.

Speaking about his latest Extended Play (EP) titled the “King of Soul,” Dapo described the project as an embodiment of soul using different genres – Afro beat, ballad, funk, alternative, etc.

He said it was because of his understanding that life in itself can never be void of love, choices, disappointments, and ‘breakfast.’

In a chat with The Nation, he said: “Straight up from The Voice Nigeria show, I started to do weddings, corporate events, and worked with different event planners.

“I also hit the studio to begin recording my project titled the King of Soul album. It is actually an EP.

“It was meant to be an album, but I just didn’t want to put out all that sweetness in one piece.

“The sweetness will actually make more sense whilst being spread over an array of projects.

“I really hope it gains a continental and national recognition, even globally, because a lot of work was put into this project.

“It was cooked for over a year. The main Producer is Spirit Vibes, and the Chief Mix Engineer is Gideon. There were also other producers like Gbass, Josh Bowale.

“Working with Kizz Daniel in Qatar for the World Cup was one of the very highlights of my 2022.

“It was a dream come true to perform with the great Kizz Daniel on the same stage. Although we have been working together for more than two years, but that felt like the peak of the whole thing and a glory to behold.

“It is one experience I will never let go of because I know that singing to a mixed race and multiple cultures was a beautiful time.

“I thank my fans for the support so far from the show till present. And I thank them for the future support for the Dapo Pelmar brand.

“My vision and hope for 2023 are quite large. Upon dropping the King of Soul EP, I will want to build on that project.

“I may be following it up with a valentine special song at the end of January and probably by February.

“I am also looking forward to collaborating with way more established artists all over the world.

“My primary influences are James Arthur, Michael Bublé, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Praiz.

“All of these sounds are just coming out of one person, depending on whatever emotions I am trying to represent at a different point in time in the songs.”

Don Jazzy: I might go broke if I continue giving strangers money

Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has said gets a lot of strange calls from people who beg him for money, and most times he gives them.

He said he would go broke if he continues giving.

He appreciated his brother, General, for being his guardian angel and security in helping out with managing and preserving his wealth else he would have gone bankrupt by now.

According to Don Jazzy, people randomly call his line with the flimsiest excuse and are able to get money off him because he’s ‘very bad with money’.

Jazzy also revealed certain people are responsible for the incessant calls he gets from strangers as they willfully sell his phone numbers to these people so that they could call him for no reason.

For that reason, the music executive who recently turned 40 confessed his phone is constantly on ‘do not disturb’ mode.

“My phone is forever on ‘Do Not Disturb’ (DND). I know that some people will think that I am cocky or forming but that’s not the point.

“They sell the number so people will just message me for no reason.

“When I’m in a good mood and I pick the calls and the conversation is getting longer they will tell you that they bought the number but they can’t tell you who sold it to them,” said Don Jazzy.

“You have to set some boundaries. Even if I don’t want to, my brother (General) is like my guardian angel, security, and everything.

“He tries as much as possible to reduce the number of people that get to me because I’m very bad with money.

“You can lie any stupid lie and I will give you the money but if I continue that way I can go broke.”
