Billionaires take over DJ Cuppy’s Lagos gig

DJ Cuppy, daughter of billionaire oil magnate, Femi Otedola, is no ordinary DJ. Although she operates a terrain dominated by men, her background, social status, hard work and thirst for success have combined to set her apart from other DJs.

That Cuppy is a boss at what she does became apparent when her Lagos event, Cuppy Takes Africa, turned into more or less a get-together for Nigeria’s billionaires and powerful figures.

Cuppy is going on a tour of Africa to promote her art, and she started with Lagos. Expectedly, her ever supportive father pulled all the stops to ensure that her Lagos event sent other Nigerian DJs green with envy.

DJ Cuppy’s first ever Pan-Africa eight-country tour began inside the plush Marquee of Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, and witnessed the presence of oil barons, top politicians, investment giants, banking magnates, media moguls and famous celebrities, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. Also present at the event were Dangote’s younger brother, Sanni; Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole and his pretty wife, Lara; former Cross River and Ekiti states’ governors, Donald Duke and Otunba Niyi Adebayo respectively; the CEO of Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyeama; Tony Elumelu; Wale Tinubu; Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; Herbert Wigwe; Segun Agbaje; Dapo Abiodun; Tayo Ayeni; Dele Momodu; Kunle Bakare and Mo Abudu, among others.

Within a short period of time, the billionaires seized the attention of the people who could not get their eyes off the rare convergence of Nigeria’s powerful men. The elegantly dressed host, alongside other top DJs, dropped some hit songs from local and international music stars.

The sophisticated event was hosted by MTV Base dada boy, VJ Ehiz and top DJs and producers, including seasoned DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Caise, DJ Obi, DJ Xclusive, DJ Olu, DJ Hazan, DJ Nana, Legendary Beatz, Spellz, Studio Magic, Leriq and Young John.

In between the acts, top comedian, Ali Baba, made a cameo appearance to entertain the top notch guests. The next stop of the very ambitious #CuppyTakesAfrica tour, supported by GT Bank plc and Dangote Foundation, will be Dakar, Senegal, on August 5. The train will move to Accra, Ghana on August 7; Nairobi, Kenya on August 10; Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on August 15; Kigali, Rwanda on August 21; Kampala, Uganda on August 22 and the final stop in Johannesburg, South Africa on August 29.

  • Gulf between Yemisi Wada, Mo Abudu widens

Gulf between Yemisi Wada, Mo Abudu widens

FRESH facts have emerged that the friendship between Yemisi Wada, a former wife of Chief Femi Olukayode (formerly Fani-Kayode), and her childhood friend, Mosunmola Abudu, the owner of Ebony TV, may have gone totally sour.

From chummy friends, they are believed to have become sworn enemies in total disregard of the friendship they had nurtured for decades.

So close were the two that during their sojourn in the UK, the streets of London watched in envy the camaraderie spirit they exhibited. But the enmity between them now seems to have become as deep as their friendship was.

Many believe their misunderstanding began when Abudu launched her NGO projects many years ago. According to those in the know, Wada became upset when Abudu began the venture by organising a benefit concert to cater for the destitute on the streets of Lagos.

The idea was alleged to have been Wada’s originally, and she was understandably angry when she found out about Abudu’s moves. The bond between them broke from that point.

Although they tried to curtail the situation at first, feigning solidarity and coming up with amazing stories of their inseparableness, the duo still engaged in a battle of ego and do not show signs of ending their disagreement anytime soon.

It became all too clear that their friendship has indeed gone sour when Abudu celebrated her 50th birthday last year and Wada was noticeably absent. Interestingly, when Wada’s daughter got married some weeks ago, Abudu also did not attend the wedding.

  • Tunde Oshinowo slows down

    Tunde Oshinowo slows down

ONCE upon a time, Tunde Oshinowo was an ubiquitous figure. He graced every party and enjoyed the pleasure that came with attending A-list parties. But it seems he has now taken a break to restrategise or abandon partying altogether.

Gone seem the days when Oshinowo, otherwise called Teddy Shine, was a popular face at parties. The boss of the defunct Tulsa Press was the typical Lagos socialite, gracing shindigs with his bubbly personality.

Although his unexplained absence from the social scene may not have anything to do with his purported quarrel with Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, many cannot help but make a connection. Tunde was highly connected within the Nigerian social establishment until recent times when he decided to embark on a sabbatical from the social scene.

  • Waziri Mohammed’s widow savours new marriage

ZAINAB Waziri-Mohammed, widow of the late former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s confidant, Waziri Mohhamed, has undoubtedly overcome the pain of losing her husband by firmly putting rumour mongers in their place. The whirl of controversy that almost shattered her has finally ceased and she now seems to be living a life she had only imagined in fairy tales.

Until the plane crash that occurred on October 22, 2005 and claimed the lives of many prominent Nigerians, including Waziri Mohammed, Zainab and her late husband were deeply in love and were happy together.

After the death of her husband, Zainab sunk into grief and was inconsolable. At the time, many even thought Zainab would not survive another year without her the love of her life. However, she proved them wrong a few months ago when she discarded her mourning toga and got married to Hon. Sabo Mohammed Nakudu, a House of Representatives member from Jigawa State.

The 65-year old good-looking and handsome Nakudu chaired the House Committee on Customs and Excise then. Zainab and her legislator husband stepped out recently and many could not but comment on how happy they looked in each other’s company.

  • Nike Animashaun bows out

    Nike Animashaun bows out

Few things would leave one more frustrated than plunging from fame to obscurity. Few months after she celebrated her 50th birthday anniversary, Nike Animashaun has been relieved of her appointment as permanent secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology.

Her controversial career seems to have come to a screeching halt after a meteoric rise from the position of Junior Magistrate in the Lagos State judiciary.

Until she was recently relieved of her position, she had relished the perks that accompanied it and metamorphosed into what many had described as aristocratic ogre. But the fickleness of fate appears to have spelt an end for all that.
