    Francis Ogboro lies low

CLOSE watchers of society may have noticed the absence one of the former Lagos Polo captains, Francis Ogboro. The wider CelebWatch has beamed its searchlight, the more elusive the once ubiquitous personality appears to get.

The Ogarra, Edo State-born socialite has not been visible on the social radar in recent times. And while the reason for his obvious absence remains yet uncertain, it is said in some quarters that the multi-millionaire and former close ally of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) has been extremely busy trying to fix a K-leg developed by his business sometime last year.

His last known appearance at a high profile event was made in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in March this year during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Yenagoa Polo Club. At the said event, he exchanged souvenirs with the governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson. He has since recoiled into his shell.

While information about her ordination remains sketchy, she is said to have mastered the art of preaching.

She is one of Nigeria’s well known female technocrats who rose to the pinnacle of the federal civil service as well as public office. She was the Minster of Housing, Land and Urban Development before the cabinet shake-up that led to the removal of ministers suspected to be loyal to the G-7 governors who walked out of the PDP convention in Abuja last year. Her sack was more dramatic in that she was said to have gone to President Jonathan a few days earlier to plead with him to make peace with Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Pepple travelled abroad to take some rest immediately she was sacked and has maintained a low profile lifestyle since she came back. • Faysal Harbs lies low

In Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, Chief Faysal Harbs, a prominent player in the state’s economic and social spheres, is a household name. His wife, Chief (Mrs) Jumoke Harbs, is also a famous socialite who has her hands in many pies. But in recent times, the popular businessman appears to have cut down drastically on socialising. Faysal, who used to be the rallying point of major social functions in Ilorin, now hardly attends social events, no matter the status of the people involved.

While it is difficult to establish the reason for his obvious absence, the rumour mill says his business has fallen on hard times. He is said to be battling with some forces that are bent on seeing him surrender and bid farewell to his chains of business. As such, he has committed himself wholly to pulling back his ailing businesses from the brink.

But while the foregoing rumours are subtly finding their ways into the mainstream media, some people insist he remains as solid as ever financially, if not stronger. This school of thought believes Harbs only chose to withdraw into privacy because of his new found contempt for mundane things. His wife, Jumoke Harbs, remains a regular face in the social circle. Her JMK Salon still hosts top celebrities in Ilorin on a daily basis.
