Dapo Abiodun’s guber ambition hit by DJ Olu’s death

For the family of billionaire businessman, Dapo Abiodun, the past few days are like an eclipse on a scene of warmth and sunshine plunging the family into sorrow and deep pains. Since the winds of mortality cruelly blew out the shining candle that was Olugbemiga Abiodun a.k.a. DJ Olu, a few days ago, they have been trying to come to terms with their loss while also dealing with the fallout of the ugly development.

It will be recalled that since DJ Olu, one of popular musician Davido’s official DJs, and a friend were found dead in a car in mysterious circumstances, rumours have been flying around about the possible cause of the tragedy. With the police allegedly recovering some illegal substances from the car, the family of the Hayden Oil boss has come out to appeal that all insinuations be disregarded until the official autopsy is made public.

Before tragedy struck last week, debonair billionaire Dapo Abiodun had set machinery in motion in his plan to become the next governor of Ogun State. It remains to be seen whether DJ Olu’s demise and the controversy surrounding it would hurt or derail his ambition.

  • Olu Fajemirokun returns after 21 yrs in US

Olu Fajemirokun returns after 21 yrs in US

Olu Fajemirokun. Remember him? The juju music maestro many tipped as Ebenezer Obey’s heir apparent when he released his popular song, O L’omori (E Get Cover) in the 1990s. He is back in town after his sojourn in the United States of America (US) for 21 years.

Fajemirokun had left millions of his fans wondering what was amiss when he suddenly departed the country at a time he looked all set to take over the Nigerian music industry with his scintillating albums and stage performances that earned him the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) award in the early 90s.

As it would be expected, his departure to the US immediately sparked various rumours to the effect that he travelled to the US to engage in menial or odd jobs. But one of his spokesmen told Celeb Watch that contrary to the unsubstantiated claims, Fajemirokun was busy with musical performances throughout his sojourn in God’s own country, moving from one state to the other.

The spokesman also said the juju music maestro was back in the country to continue from where he stopped when he jetted out of the country in March 1996. Already, Fajemirokun, who is billed to be conferred with the chieftaincy tittle of Ariyo of Ifewara, Osun State on October 27, is scheduled to perform for former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, in Ogbomoso today.

  • Cultural heritage takes centre stage

Alarmed by the tide of cultural, economic, political and linguistic imperialism which is threatening to sweep our roots into oblivion, a group of professionals and concerned individuals from all over the world have come together to form The Roots and Heritage Renaissance Culture Initiative (RHRCI) with the simple aim of preserving Nigeria’s way of life and fighting the encroachment of alien cultures.

In just over a year since its formation, the group has blossomed with over 1,000 members, each fighting in their own way the eternal battle against cultural extinction. The group is now set to officially launch itself into public consciousness with the #I-AM-IDIA project in commemoration of the unique significance of the Idia Mask which was first unveiled during Festac ’77.

The August event is slated for Sunday October 29 at the Oranmiyan Hall of the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja, the state capital. The event will begin at 2pm and will doubtless feature nostalgic trips down memory lane of Nigeria’s rich history and culture, while also honouring the shining lights who have helped to put the country on the cultural map.

  • Will Patience Jonathan roll out the drums as she clocks 60?

Will Patience Jonathan roll out the drums as she clocks 60?

The 60th birthday of Mrs Patience Jonathan, wife of former Nigerian president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is barely four weeks away. In the days she held sway as the First Lady, the halls of the social and political elites would by now be astir with preparations like effervescent bees buzzing around a hive. Her numerous friends would have literally taken over the social and traditional media with posters and anticipatory messages, while some swanky spots in Abuja would have been booked for a huge birthday shindig.

The reality now is that Patience is no more the First Lady, and the group that used to hang around her like faithful dogs eager to do their master’s bidding has been dispersed by the gale of change that also blew her husband out of  Aso Rock Villa. As her birthday approaches, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is hot on her heels over allegations of financial impropriety, thus provoking genuine curiosity as to what the colourful former first lady would do?

Will she roll out the drums for a high octane birthday bash or will she borrow a leaf from her quiescent husband and make do with a low-key celebration? Only October 25 will tell.

  • Damilola Adegbite reverts to maiden name

Damilola Adegbite reverts to maiden name

Indeed, there is no art to find the mind’s construction in the face like Shakespeare would say. Outward beauty is like a flower which captivates the man or woman with its silvery dance by the moonlight. Once the day breaks, it lies cold, fruitless and forgotten. Without two hearts beating as one, beauty is but a temporary fix for a leaking roof, as Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite and her estranged husband, Chris Attoh, must have found out.

When the going was good, Damilola and handsome Ghanaian actor, Chris, were a hot item. They graced the covers of several magazine issues with hot, racy photos as their transnational romance flourished like well-watered green shoots. Chris proposed to Damilola on an Atlantic boat cruise in Manhattan in August 2014 and the duo tied the nuptial knot at a glittering ceremony on Valentine’s Day in 2015.

However, for some months, there were rumours of a strained relationship between the two. While their fans fasted and prayed like devout Christians on their behalf, Dami and Chris kept mum on the issue until a recent interview where the handsome dude confirmed their divorce.

Although the reason for their separation is not known, Dami has since reverted to her maiden name, at least on the internet. She has also wiped off all images and references to her ex-husband from her social media accounts.

  • Ned Nwoko’s castle headache

    Ned Nwoko’s castle headache

Hon. Ned Nwoko is currently in a dilemma. His “castle in the air” could do with a big boost in patronage and this is giving the Delta whiz man some sleepless nights. He has allegedly been trying to forge a partnership with the tourism corporation all to no avail.

It is no news that Ned built a paradisiac and expansive castle 1000 feet above sea level in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, some years ago. The swanky mansion is home to a myriad of exotic flora and fauna and also has game and relaxation spots. The exotic tourism hot spot even wowed the previous DG of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, Sally Mbanefo, who promised to list it as one of the approved tourism centres in the country.

With Sally’s ouster and the enthronement of Lagos big boy Folorunsho Coker as DG NTDC, however, the story seems to have changed. There are insinuations in some quarters that the new NTDC boss does not see eye to eye with the principal partner at Ned Nwoko Solicitors, while others say it is just a matter of differing views on how best to take tourism forward in the country.

  • Jennifer Obayuwana still in search of real love

Jennifer Obayuwana still in search of real love

In Jennifer Obayuwana, Polo Avenue boss, John Obayuwana, has a beloved daughter in whom he is well pleased. Like a beautiful symphony of pipes and flutes, Jennifer and John flow in harmony. Their relationship is like the coming together of a profound lyric and a deep, mellifluous voice to create a piece of music that would thrive for ages.

So deep is the love John harbours for his daughter that ensuring her happiness has become a life mission. He dotes on her and trusts her so much that he made her the director of Polo, an action tantamount to giving her the keys to his business kingdom.

What the proud father has not been able to give her yet is perhaps the one thing Jennifer craves the most: emotional love. In spite of her links with several high profile men with means and dandy looks, Jennifer remains yet a spinster, an oddity in the sea of socialites who have drunk of the intoxicating wine of marriage at least once.

Not too long ago, she was set to finally walk down the aisle with her latest beau, Peter Saleh, but that relationship seems to have died a quiet, natural death.

  • K1 plans big for retirement

    K1 plans big for retirement

Over the years, not a few disciples of fuji music maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal a.k.a. K1 the Ultimate had wished his music were food so they would sample each course in a mixture like awed subjects invited to a king’s banquet. They will get their wish soon, in a manner of speaking. Come November 1, the legendary fuji crooner will launch a confectionary business, Anjola Bakery.

K1 who rose to enduring fame with his Talazo 84 album many years ago has been somewhat quiet on the music-making front for some time now, even though he remains in hot demand when it comes to performing at events. The husband of beautiful Fathia Opeyemi has started thinking of life after music, having celebrated his 60th birthday earlier this year. Thus he created Brampton Gizalink Group as his ticket into post-music financial security.

The company, which specialises in construction, dredging and sale of music equipment, has been bringing in the bucks. With Anjola Bakery set for launch soon with state of the art facilities and equipment, a confectionary arm has been added to the umbrella group.

Fans and admirers will be hoping the new bakery contains the musical essence of K1. That way, their palates can sing to the taste of delicious bread, while their bodies sway to his music.
