    FLAMBOYANT female clergy, Pastor Siju Iluyomade, is one woman whose nature is as complex as centuries-old mathematical problem. She also knows when to be an activist determined to ensure the betterment of womanhood.

    Unlike other women in privileged positions who think of nothing beyond wining, dining and making merry, Pastor Siju uses her status in the society, especially among the womenfolk, to elevate other women. This was the origin of Arise Women’s Conference, an annual event convened for the betterment of womanhood.

    The eighth edition of the conference took place last Saturday at the RCCG City of David Parish and was themed Grace to Grace. Among the hundreds of women who trooped to the venue in pursuit of empowerment were special guests of honour, including the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo.

    Aigbovbioise is the head, Capital Markets Division of Coronation Bank, who marries a suave demeanour with a gregarious nature. The new song in town now is that the younger Aig will finally get to make his first ever wedding vows a few years shy of 50.

    Funke Fowler on her part had once walked down the aisle with Abbey Kuku, son of Ogbeni Oja Bayo Kuku, but that marriage was dissolved four years ago on grounds of ‘irreconcilable differences.’

More than once, she has been put on the spot because of her fun-loving personality which contrasts sharply with her father’s calling and disposition.

    Rather than turn a new leaf upon her return to the country few years ago, she became a hit on the social scene, throwing money around as if the naira was about to go out of fashion. Her flamboyant lifestyle abated when she hooked up with a one-time darling of the Ibadan social scene, Ayotunde Samuel Omolola a.k.a. Nero. The two even started a business together before they tied the nuptial knot some years back.

    As little was heard of the couple thereafter, many people assumed that they were busy enjoying a happy married life. But there are now insinuations that this may no longer be the case, if ever it was. It is alleged that the two have gone head to head like two angry rams, leaving each other with serious emotional scars.

    They are even said to have waved goodbye to their marriage and relocated to different locations in the USA.

    Given the status of the families involved, there are speculations already that the wedding tagged KENZI2018 will feature grand and lavish displays of the political and financial might of two of Enugu’s elite families.

    After a few days of treatment at an hospital in Abuja, the grandson of the late First Republic politician, Adegoke Adelabu a.k.a. Penkelemesi, is now up and running.

    Just a few months back, Centrespread had signed a pact with one of the world’s top advertising agencies GREY, with the company rebranding as Centrespread GREY. The new development may have played a part in Ayanwale’s decision to quietly ease himself out the door of the agency he founded and nurtured into the local behemoth it is now.

    One of his daughters, Tola Obi nee Ayanwale, was recently made the Chief Operating Officer in the country and now handles its running. Tola is a graduate of Accounting and Economics from the University of Texas. She was head of the group’s Interactive Communications Technology arm before she climbed to her current position.

    While many a well-intentioned programme grinds to a halt for lack of fuel, the Dabira Women Initiative is still going strong 10 years after, fuelled by an inexhaustible supply of passion which flows through the veins of its gorgeous and delectable founder, Lara Odebiyi.

    Since she founded the Lydia Hearts Initiative in 2007, Lara has been giving the middle finger to poverty in the lives of women and girls through her empowerment initiatives and networking programmes, one of which is the Dabira Women Initiative now in its tenth year.

    The title of this year’s edition was “Power of a Woman, Power Your Potentials”. It attracted accomplished women leaders like Dr Kemi Jorge Oyewusai, Lilian Adebola, Dr Ada Ezeka and Dr Elishama Ideh who gave powerful talks at the event to the approving nods of the hundreds of women who trooped to the Muson Centre, Onikan venue to see their role models in action.

    Lara regularly disseminates her powerful message of hope to women through Dabira magazine which she founded. Her main avenue for reaching out to women is her Dabira Business Network, which she uses to discover, train and equip women entrepreneurs in the country.
