  • Akin-Olugbade, Fatayi-Williams families set for children’s wedding

    Akin-Olugbade, Fatayi-Williams families set for children’s wedding

It looks like the season of weddings for children of the elite. The circle of high society is replete with tales of approaching weddings set for the last two months of the year. The latest to be unveiled is the wedding of the second son of Prince Bolu Akin-Olugbade, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Owu Kingdom.

Prince Dademu Adegboyega Akin-Olugbade will be tying the nuptial knot with his heartthrob on November 19, 2016. The handsome prince will finally walk his sweetheart of several years, Lauretta Fatayi-Williams, to the altar for vows of a lasting union. Neither will the traditional wedding lack the attendance of the cremé de la cremé of the South West nobility. While the groom descended from a famed lineage, the bride herself is not bereft of a noble lustre.

Lauretta is the granddaughter of Justice Fatayi-Williams, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria. Her father is Dr Allan Fatayi-Williams, while her mother is Mrs. Marie Fatayi-Williams. She has followed in the footsteps of her grandfather into the legal profession.

With the coming together of two famous lineages, there is no doubt that the event billed for Landmark Centre at Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, will witness massive attendance by eminent persons.

  • Buruji Kashamu, Ladi Adebutu on collision course

Buruji Kashamu, Ladi Adebutu on collision course

Nigeria’s political history is replete with men who rose to the heights of political glory by climbing on the shoulders of godfathers. Ladi Adebutu seems to be toeing the same path, unmindful of the fate of those who had come crashing down after falling out with their godfathers.

On his part, Ladi, a member of the House of Representatives, is banking on the vast wealth of his father, Chief Kessington Adebutu, to actualise his ambition of becoming the next governor of Ogun State. He however faces stiff opposition in the person of Senator Buruji Kashamu whose own ambition is sure to clash with those of the younger Adebutu.

It was gathered that although they both hail from the Ijebu part of the state and both belong to the Peoples Democratic Party, neither of them is ready to sacrifice his ambition for the other.

In the face of the massive threat posed by Kashamu, who is banking on the influence he has garnered through years of service at the grassroots, Ladi has predictably turned to his father’s wealth and political clout as his trump card towards securing his party’s ticket come 2018.

In order not to fall foul of the party’s zoning formula, Ladi, who hails from Iperu Remo, plans to run for office from the Odogbolu Constituency. But be it as it may, political schemers in the state appear set to throw their weight behind him.

  • Toyin Kolade loses mum

    Toyin Kolade loses mum

Death is a necessary end that comes when it wills. We see it in action, wreaking havoc in the families of friends, neighbours and countrymen, yet when it comes for us or ours, we are seldom prepared. Top Lagos businesswoman, Princess Toyin Kolade, has been distraught since the grim reaper stole her mother, Madam Comfort Adejuyigbe.

Mama Alayeere, as she was fondly addressed, departed the world for eternal repose after a long battle with illness. She departed calmly and peacefully, unburdened by the dying’s usual regrets. This was however scant consolation for her daughter, who had the misfortune of missing her mother’s final moments because she was away in Ile-Ife for the Ooni’s 42nd birthday.

Mama was said to have waved the world goodbye at about 7 pm on Monday and her remains have since been deposited at the TOS Funeral Home in Lagos, while funeral arrangements are being made.

As a royal matriarch, late Madam Adejuyigbe will have the honour of a funeral ceremony at her hometown of Ilesha, Osun State. And because she was well known in life, she is sure to be well celebrated.

Femi Kuti, estranged wife shock fans at Felabration

It was a sight for sore eyes at Felabration 2016 a few days ago when afrobeats maestro, Femi Kuti, and his estranged wife, Funke Kuti, set aside lingering animosity to engage each other in series of hugs on the red carpet to the applause of everyone present. As they celebrated together, onlookers were reminded of the days when the going was good between the son of the late afrobeat exponent, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the one-time love of his life.

Femi and Funke were two of the hottest couples in town until their marriage hit the rocks. The two got separated 10 years ago in a much-publicised incident, but the divorce papers did not arrive until a couple years ago. It was reliably gathered that the two have since decided to bury the hatchet for the sake of their son, Made, and are now best of friends. Their fans and admirers have, however, not given up hope that the two will somehow get back together as a couple.

Funke certainly isn’t doing anything to discourage them as she took to posting some pictures of her and Femi together on social media.

  • Lafiaji’s daughter shuns romance after crashed marriage

Lafiaji’s daughter shuns romance after crashed marriage

The test of mettle does not lie in never falling on the slippery slopes of life but in standing up each time one falls. And this assertion is true for beauties as it is for the rest of us.

Salamatu Lafiaji, daughter of Senator Shaaba Lafiaji, a former governor of Kwara State, remains undaunted in the midst of life’s challenges that have made the beautiful woman eschew the allures of romantic entanglement. And this is in spite of the queue of eligible bachelors who have been knocking on the door of her heart without success.

Unlike other women who derive joy from tormenting prospective suitors, Salamatu’s reluctance has to do with her previous unsavoury experience in marriage. She was once married to Nollywood high flier, Ibrahim Chatta, but the union was unable to survive the first few challenges that came its way and it crashed down to earth faster than a malfunctioning rocket, leaving unpleasant memories in the minds of everyone involved.

While Ibrahim has since made another attempt at a happy marriage, Salamatu has turned her back on romance, taking solace in her business endeavours, even as she has gone back to using her maiden name.

  • Taiwo Lakanu proves mettle

    Taiwo Lakanu proves mettle

The strongest man is he who stands most alone. And in the case of Taiwo Lakanu, Ibsen’s word rings true. At a time his fellow officers are losing credibility, sacrificing their integrity on the altar of mouth-watering inducements, the Imo State Commissioner of Police stands apart as a class act unmoved by the corrupting influence of high office.

An incurable hater of corruption and its sister vices, Lakanu, who is also the Akogun of Lagos State, has proved his mettle through the victorious wars he waged on crime in all the places he has been deployed as an officer of the Nigerian Police. A hard-boiled cop with uncommon passion and courage, the Onwa Na Etiri Oha (the moon that shines) of Imo State has been described by Governor Rochas Okorocha as the long-awaited divine messenger sent by providence to rid the state of criminals.

Wherever he finds himself, Lakanu has done his best to restore the battered image of the police force to its former glory. From the time he enlisted as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Nigeria Police Force in 1986, he has risen through the ranks, holding positions in operations, investigation and administration until his relentless dedication to duty landed him the position of Ekiti State Commissioner of Police and Commissioner in charge of Airport Command before his recent deployment to Imo State.

A graduate of Philosophy and Law who was called to the bar in 2000, CP Lakanu was recently recognised for his stellar record in crime fighting at an award ceremony hosted by Security Watch Africa. At the ceremony in Houston, Texas, USA, Lakanu was named Most Outstanding Crime Fighter in West and Sub-Sahara Africa. Such recognition could only bolster his resolve to give his all.

  • Bigwigs relocate families over fears of abduction

Things have fallen apart in the once-secure world of wealthy families. The centre can no longer hold as their hearts are gripped by fear at the exploits of daredevil kidnappers for whom barbed wire gates and sophisticated alarm systems have proved no deterrent. The conscienceless men of the underworld now have no regard for position or status in carrying out their horrendous and dastardly acts.

Consequent on the foregoing, political bigwigs and captains of industry as well as celebrities have begun to troop out of the country with their families in a bid to escape the evil clutches of the ransom traders. The troubled elites are also restricting the movements of their children and family members as they now hire well-trained security experts to tail them and their relatives.

Some of them have had to put their faith in imported state of the art monitoring and alarm systems installed in their palatial homes. But all these have not proved totally successful in checking the incursions of kidnappers who often lie in wait for these big men and their children like wolves patiently waiting for lambs.

  • Shina Peller shuns father’s shadow

    Shina Peller shuns father’s shadow

Greatness is generally seen as a preserve of the wise. Heroes are acclaimed great because they do great deeds and the wise achieve greatness because instead of trying to be as great as heroes, they possess the wisdom to do something different. If the late professor Abiola Peller who dazzled the world with his supernatural feats was a hero, his son, Shina Peller, is great because he employs wisdom.

Having grown up witnessing his father, a renowned magician, perform incredible feats, Shina was wise enough to know that he would never be able to rise above his father’s shadow unless he left the world of tricks and wonders and launched himself into a new field. Thus, the man known as ‘the one with the magical hands’ began his journey to self-made influence. Scorning his father’s fame as a conjurer, Shina Peller delved into the energy and entertainment industries.

The light-complexioned head honcho of Aquila Oil & Gas has ditched trick-making for money-making. Only recently, he floated Quilox, a night club restaurant and all-round entertainment spot on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos. His influence in the social scene has grown to the extent that the launch of the night club about two years ago drew governors and other prominent people around the country.
