How Kano-born social media comedian, Aabdulbk is breaking barriers

When talent is raw and rare, it kicks doors open and pushes boundaries. In Nigeria where over 90 percent of social media comedians, just to be conservative with the figure, are from the south, in a hugely competitive and saturated comedy space,

Aabdulbk, is strongly finding a voice and forceful recognition, circumventing culture.

Aabdulbk, whose real names are Abdulrazak Zango Isiyaka, is already a comedy sensation loved by his die-hard fans across the world. Though a high school graduate from Kano State, North-west Nigeria, the entertainer is punching well beyond his weight in the industry just three years into his foray as a comic character online.

Comedy has no language and one of Aabdulbk’s ingenuities is churning out addictive contents any human being can quite relate with, regardless of culture or language. That is why he boasts 4.6million followers and 41.6million likes in TikTok. On Instagram, he is followed by 378,000 fans and still counting. Three of his videos alone have amassed 160million views on TikTok  alone.

Northerners are gifted in arts and cinematography but only a handful of online comedians have emerged from the region. Aabdulbk recognised his passion early, having been inspite by king of Tiktok, Khaby Lame. While making a name, he is also inadvertently inspiring other talents in the region.

“I decided not to talk in my videos because the people who watch my videos are from different languages and backgrounds all over the world, so using a voice/language in my videos will restrict my viewers to a certain people. Even those with hearing disabilities can watch my videos and understand the message passed,” Aabdulbk said.

“I started comedy in 2022. I got inspired to start comedy because I realised that I got the talent to make people laugh, making people laugh is my hobby. I become happy whenever I make people laugh. I was able to carve out a niche in the saturated comedy space in Nigeria by imploring the natural talent given to me by God. I got inspired by my talent to make people laugh, my role model in comedy is khaby Lame,” Aabdulbk stated.

Aabdulbk, who is known for his charity works, admitted that he is the most popular comedian in the north. He further agreed that though comedy on social media has made him famous, he is “working on the wealth part.”

How God changed my life through Zubby Michael by Nwosu Michael

Nwosu Michael, a Nollywood actor known for playing gangster roles in movies, has revealed how God arrested him and changed his life for good.

Michael, in a recent chat, said he was once a bad boy, who had no fear of God but after his encounter with God in 2020, he became a new creature in Christ.

Michael, also known as Yabkaba, recalled how his debut movie, ‘Return of Shina Rambo,’ directed by Ilochi Olisemeka, exposed him to playing tough roles in movies, leading to his being stereotyped by film producers and directors.

On several occasions, Micheal has starred alongside Zubby Micheal in tough movies such a ‘German Machine,’ ‘Who Killed Abobi,’ ‘Convenient of Money,’ ‘Secret of Zubby,’ ‘Flashback,’ ‘The Assassin,’ and his latest movie, ‘The Clash.’

The rugged actor confirmed that it was his roles in ‘German Machine’ and “Convenience of money” that brought him to the limelight.

He also narrated how he changed his name to Yankaba, the arch angel a.k.a Demon possessed.

“Acting like a bad boy in movies doesn’t mean I am bad. God arrested me because I was once bad,” said the actor.

Interestingly, Michael later switched his roles in movies, playing lover boy, responsible and working class man.

Following the tough roles he plays in movies, Michael became close with Zubby Michael, who advised him to focus on his career and avoid non-beneficial people.

He recalls: “We were at a location and I was standing by my car, when Zubby Micheal walked past me. I was talking to someone on the phone and I spoke in coded language, I never knew he overheard me. While he was coming back, he came straight to my passenger seat and opened the car.

“I was surprised and I greeted him. He said to me that he likes my acting and told me that those people I was talking to on the phone should be avoided as they can’t do me any good. He further said that I am a star and I should focus on my career.

“I was shocked but it touched me. I even thought he was a bad boy due to his roles in movies. Zubby really carried me along and made me flow while acting that day. Thank God for today because I was once a bad boy and thanks to Zubby for advising me. We became friends and even exchanged numbers. People thought he’s my brother because our surnames are the same,” he narrated.

Reflecting on his journey, Michael said he was destined to be a superstar, even though he never imagined that he would go into acting. “All my mind was after graduating from the university, I would pick up a white-collar job and live a normal life,” he said.

Michael, stressed financial independence for budding actors before venturing into the industry. This he reasoned, will enable them to weather storms when the chips are down.

“Coming up as an actor, I was comfortable, I had a car and I could take care of myself. But it wasn’t easy. Assuming I had the support of my family or industry it wouldn’t be that hard.”

Michael described his stardom as “divine”, adding that he never thought he would become a celebrity some day.

  • Reed Armani vows originality over industry trends

Reed Armani vows originality over industry trends

For emerging Afrobeats act Reed Armani, staying original is not just a creative preference—it’s a mission.

Born Chikezie Isaac Chigozie, the Lagos-based artiste said his music is shaped by personal experiences, emotional depth, and a deep-rooted belief in artistic authenticity.

As he eyes the world stage, Armani pledged to be part of a new breed of performers who are determined not to be boxed in, in the rapidly changing Nigerian music industry, where trends come and go.

He said: “Being authentic has to come from within. I’ve always believed every artist has their message to convey, and I’ll do the same with my originality and style.”

“The industry doesn’t have to make me do something else. Rather, it should blend into my sound. There’s always a different artist coming out every day with their unique style, so I’ll stick to mine.”

Originally from Abia State, Armani, well known for his singles ‘Kilofeso’ and ‘In My Head,’ revealed his journey into music began in the most familiar of places—his local church choir.

He said it was there he first discovered the power of melody and harmony, nurturing a passion that would eventually define his career.

The singer describes himself as a “mid-tempo soul-influenced artiste”, whose sound thrives on emotional connectivity.

“I want my listeners to feel the sound and listen to the lyrics. It’ll always be about love, about struggle, about life.”

Like many others, Armani said his upbringing wasn’t without its challenges. Yet, he credits the support of his parents, even in difficult times, as a stabilizing force that helped shape his perspective and creative outlook.

“Growing up wasn’t easy, but I had parents who showed us love. One experience that really shaped me was learning that you must work very hard to show yourself where you belong. That lesson has stuck with me.”

According to Armani, while his music is deeply personal, it is also inspired by some of Nigeria’s finest. He cited Wizkid and Olamide as examples of consistency he strives to emulate, and praised Fireboy DML for his creative range.

“I’ve always loved Wizkid and Olamide’s style of consistency. And I love Fireboy’s sound, especially how he switches his vibes effortlessly. That inspires me,” he noted

But even with those influences, Armani insists on writing his own lyrics and crafting songs from scratch.

“I write all my songs. Sometimes I write based on how I feel in a moment—maybe from my environment, my mood, or just a reflection on past experiences. I try to turn those emotions into music.”

Despite his passion and talent, Armani admitted the road has not been smooth. Like many upcoming artists, he said he continues to grapple with the harsh realities of building a career in a competitive industry.

Still, he is optimistic about the direction of the industry. According to him, platforms and digital tools are increasingly empowering independent voices, allowing new artistes to break through with the right mix of talent and strategy.

“The major challenges are finance—having enough to fund your projects, and also the difficulty in getting attention from big-name artistes. But I keep pushing. I work, I invest in my craft, and I show up every day ready.”

“With a good sound and great promotion, an upcoming artiste can make waves. The industry has evolved a lot. You just have to be prepared,” he explained.

On his latest project, a yet-to-be-released single, leans heavily on Afrobeats rhythms and themes of emotional intimacy. The track, he noted, explores the idea of connection and commitment in a relationship, and he hopes it resonates with listeners.

According to him, the new song also serves as a lead single for an upcoming EP, which he said will further explore his sonic range and lyrical themes.

“It’s about a connection with a girl. Expect a different kind of love vibe. The message is just love—and letting your loved ones know you’ll be there for them, no matter what happens.”

“It’s all coming together gradually. This new release will set the tone for what’s ahead,” he added.

Apart from music, Armani said he is also interested in fashion, which he intends to combine with his music brand in order to stand out in the crowded entertainment industry.

“I want to merge my fashion style with my music to be outstanding. It’s all part of my vision,” he noted.

Beyond his next single, Armani hopes to collaborate with a mix of Nigerian and international talents. Locally, he mentioned Fireboy, Fave, and Ilona as dream collaborators. Internationally, his sights are set on American rapper and singer Dej Loaf, and Canadian artist Tory Lanez.

In the next three to five years, he revealed that he hopes to be touring globally, building an audience that appreciates both his sound and visual identity.

To fans and first-time listeners alike as well as those facing personal or creative setbacks, Armani encouraged noting: “Stay strong through whatever situation you’re in—it won’t last forever. And keep your ears open. I’ll be disturbing your speakers pretty soon.”
