  • Why I sued blogger over viral video at Odunlade father’s burial – Eniola Ajao

Why I sued blogger over viral video at Odunlade father’s burial – Eniola Ajao

Actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has explained why she took legal action against blogger Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, accusing him of manipulating a video to tarnish her image and subject her to ridicule online.

She explained that after attending the burial of Ambassador Odunlade Adekola’s father, the blogger created and circulated a doctored video with malicious intent.

Ajao, who has faced years of online trolling, said she decided to pursue legal action this time.

Adabasioni was arrested and prosecuted under the Nigerian Cybercrime Act for criminal defamation and cyberbullying. After failing to provide evidence to back his claims, he was detained for two weeks.

The blogger later apologised and retracted the defamatory content following pleas from his family and friends.

She stressed that defamation carries serious consequences and urged bloggers to learn from the incident.

Ajao also expressed gratitude to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and human rights activist Aghedo Kehinde Stephen for their support during the ordeal.

Ajao wrote, “Hello everyone, after deep consultations with my media and legal team, it became important for me to publicly address this once and for all.

“I can confirm the arrest and prosecution of Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, a blogger, for criminal defamation and cyberbullying under the Nigerian Cyber Crime Acts. This blogger went online to make derogatory and unfounded claims against my person, following my appearance at the burial of our Late father PA N.A Adekola, the father of my BOSS, Ambassador Odunlade Adekola.

“Over the past few years, I’ve been a target for cheap bloggers and social media trolls. I endured bants even when I labor hard to put my work out there, but God has always shown up to elevate me above these enemies of progress who use social media as a tool against me

“Adabasioni took videos of me, which were made by another party blogger with malicious intentions. Adabasioni manipulated the video to suit his narrative and posted it online to achieve his trolling goal, I became a subject of ridicule, no one questioned the highly-manipulated video, I chose to respond for once by taking legal actions, the said blogger was arrested to produce his evidences as claimed in the video, he had none and I ensured he was detained in prison for two good weeks at the Ikoyi prison, He assassinated my character, he paid for it in full!

“His family and friends, who didn’t caution him when he made the video, joined him to beg me when I responded legally. Of course, Eniola is a gentlewoman. I have forgiven him after he apologized and retracted the report of calumny he posted. I pitied his mother, but this is the way going forward. If you want to drive traffic to your page with defamatory stories, you will pay dearly for your foolishness.

“To party bloggers who go to events to make videos for trolling purposes, I promise you, I will go to the full extent of the law with you. And to those of you bloggers who live abroad and think you’re not within reach, petitions have been raised against you all. I promise you, too, it will shock you that your day of doom will arrive soon. You people forget you have family members here, if they cannot call you to order when you’re trying to destroy people for no just cause, they will help you in paying for your sins. You who enjoy doing silly voice-overs on videos you see just to defame people, your seven-year imprisonment is loading.

“If you think you can defame people online because it’s a free space, you will meet the course of the law. Maybe you don’t know that defamation of character is a grave offense that comes with consequences. We will no longer leave you for God; we will match your energy legally.

“We advise you to learn from the fate of Adabasioni, and if you choose not to, you will learn the hard way. Nobody is above the law. Love and light.

“Special thanks to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi @oluwabusorlami, a wonderful police beacon who stepped in to fight my cause legally in the midst of the cybercrime perpetrated against me by malicious bloggers. I’m also thankful to a spirited human rights activist, Mr. Aghedo Kehinde Stephen @aghedo_c20, who also rose for my cause. I’m grateful for your support and guidance during this difficult time”.

  • Why Asake’s success didn’t surprise me – Olamide

Why Asake’s success didn’t surprise me – Olamide

Rapper and singer Olamide has said that he recognised Asake’s exceptional talent and unique sound from their very first meeting.

Speaking in a recent interview, Olamide admitted that while he knew Asake was gifted, he did not anticipate the massive success his music would later achieve.

“I did not know he was going to go that wild, but I knew Asake was one of one. From the sound and everything. I have never heard anything close to that before. His authenticity and his craftsmanship,” Olamide said.

He further praised Asake’s natural drive and strong work ethic, noting that the singer never needs to be pushed to put in effort.

“Asake is not the dude you try and convince to put in effort because he is already putting effort.

“That is why I respect him so much. And I thought it would be a nice thing for us to partner”, he said.

Olamide attributed his decision to sign Asake to his label, YBNL, to these qualities.

According to Olamide, his approach to mentoring artists involves giving them the freedom to create beautiful music without unnecessary pressure.

“Honestly, I do not put such pressure on my guys. I try as much as possible not to put pressure on them. I just tell them to make beautiful music. If it is awesome, it is going to fly. It might not fly. It might fly in 10 years, 20 years. And we are still seeing that in real life now”, he said.

He opined that good music will eventually stand the test of time, even if it doesn’t gain immediate popularity.

Olamide cited examples of his own songs that didn’t gain traction initially but are now appreciated.

“My songs from 10 years ago probably did not pop then. But we knew it was good music”, he said.

Asake’s journey with YBNL began in February 2022, and he recently parted ways with the label to establish his own label, Giran Republic.

  • My Father’s shadow Nigerian premiere draws star-studded crowd, marks historic milestone for cinema

My Father’s shadow Nigerian premiere draws star-studded crowd, marks historic milestone for cinema

Last night, Lagos hit a new cinematic milestone as My Father’s Shadow premiered in Nigeria ahead of its nationwide release on September 19, 2025 by FilmOne Distributions.

The event, held at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX, drew an audience of filmmakers, actors, cultural leaders, industry executives, exhibitors and media, who celebrated the film’s homecoming after already making history around the world.

My Father’s Shadow was the first Nigerian film to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection (Un Certain Regard) earlier this year, and it received the Caméra d’Or Special Mention for best debut feature.

Set on June 23, 1993, the day Nigeria’s democratic hopes were dashed with the annulment of the June 12 election, the film follows two brothers as they travel around Lagos with their estranged father. Producer Wale Davies originally wrote the script for a short film, but it was later expanded into a feature alongside his brother, acclaimed filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr., culminating in a deeply personal yet universal depiction of fatherhood, identity, and national memory.

At the premiere, director Akinola Davies Jr. said, “I hope that audiences will relate to the same things I love in the film – the family, politics, the spirituality, and the psychology: trying to navigate all of these aspects in a mid-nineties Nigerian period drama is what helps make this film unique. We’ve tried to make something that is accessible, so that when people watch it, they see a reflection of themselves and experiences that they are familiar with.’

Funmbi Ogunbanwo, producer and CEO of Fatherland, added: “I am excited for audiences to see Lagos portrayed in this way. Audiences will enjoy the rich tapestry of Nigeria, our people and our language. They will feel the rhythm and the sound of Lagos – the size of Lagos. The journey of these boys with their father through this city ultimately culminates in this rich experience of family.’

Ladun Awobokun (Chief Content Officer, FilmOne Entertainment) said: “At FilmOne, our priority is to identify and champion content that is both artistically powerful and culturally relevant. My Father’s Shadow is a deeply authentic story that resonates with our collective experience, and bringing it to cinemas across West Africa ensures that audiences at home connect with the same story that has captivated the world.”

Kene Okwuosa (Group CEO, Filmhouse Group) also added: “My Father’s Shadow has received remarkable recognition on the international stage, and we believe it is important that audiences in Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia also share in this landmark achievement. Our decision to distribute the film across these territories reflects our commitment to showcasing African stories at the highest level, not just globally but within our own region.”

The premiere highlighted the film’s remarkable leading performances, including Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù as Folarin. It also introduced audiences to first-time actors Chibuike Marvellous Egbo and Godwin Egbo, who were discovered through a Lagos street casting campaign. The film was shot entirely in Nigeria, with a cast and shooting crew that was over 80% Nigerian, boosting the local creative economy.

Following its Nigerian premiere, My Father’s Shadow will be released nationwide on September 19, 2025, marking the beginning of its global theatrical journey. With its critical acclaim, powerful storytelling, and historical significance, the film is set to excite audiences, empower local creatives, and spur additional investment in the country’s film industry.
