BREAKING: Tracy Evicted from Big Brother Naija Season 10

Tracy has become the latest housemate to be evicted from Big Brother Naija Season 10, following a tense week marked by the dramatic search for an immunity card that left 14 housemates up for possible eviction.

Her exit came shortly after Denari’s eviction, making her the second housemate to leave the show tonight.

Kaybobo emerged as the ‘Most Influential’ housemate for week six, securing his safety, while Head of House Thelma Lawson and three fake evictees, Rooboy, Dede, and Joanna, were also spared.

  • Wike, PDP govs in mind game over party positions, presidential ticket

Wike, PDP govs in mind game over party positions, presidential ticket

The battle for key offices in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2027 presidential ticket has entered the mind game phase between governors elected on the platform of the party and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the November national convention.

The two sides, according to sources, have been working hard at getting the best of deals at the Ibadan convention where officers who will run the party’s affairs and more importantly organise the primaries to pick the PDP candidates for the 2027 elections, will be picked.

Of particular interest to them are the positions of national chairman and national secretary.

The PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) had at its last meeting in Abuja adopted the Douye Diri Zoning Committee’s report which recommended that the national chairman be zoned to the north while the south should produce the presidential candidate and national secretary, among others.

Soon after the adoption of the report by the PDP NEC, leaders of the party in the Southeast, South-South and Southwest agreed on a formula to share the 11 party positions allocated to the south.

Under the agreement, Southeast will produce National Financial Secretary (NFS), Deputy National Secretary (DNS), National Women’s Leader (NWL) and Deputy National Youth Leader (DNYL) while the Southwest will have, in addition to the national secretary, National Auditor (NA) and Deputy National Organising Secretary (DNOS).

From the South-South will come Deputy National Chairman-South (DNC-S), National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Deputy National Treasurer (DNT) and Deputy National Legal Adviser (DNLA).

Party sources informed The Nation that interest groups in the three geo political zones with allegiance to the governors and Wike are engaged in intense networking to out manoeuvre one another as they gear up for the national convention.

They are looking at supporters who would not only deliver once elected but would remain loyal and committed to their respective groups.

The race for party offices becomes complex, especially in the south, since it is also expected to produce the presidential candidate.

In effect, the state that produces the next secretary cannot reasonably expect to vie for the presidential ticket.

Sources said party members in the Southwest are waiting for  Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is strongly believed to be eyeing the presidential ticket, to make a move to enable them decide who they would put forward to run for secretary.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is speculated to be interested in staging a return in 2027, has kept the party guessing on his next move.

His aides have consistently rejected suggestions that he would not be joining the race.

Only last week, he met in Abuja with the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, on ‘national issues’.

Details of their discussions are not yet known.

Party sources said Jonathan has not shown any inclination to discuss his speculated interest with PDP leaders even though he is often at his Goodluck Jonathan Foundation office, which is only about 12 minutes’ drive from the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

Some party elders, including the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, are huge fans of Jonathan and even Obi.

However, some party members, including Ogun State PDP chieftain, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, continue to contend that Peter has been too far from the party and that he appears being too clever, to expect a ticket without going through party primaries.

The Southwest bloc, long aggrieved by its limited chances in the PDP hierarchy, is also positioning itself for more impactful inclusion.

In furtherance of its interests, the two PDP governors in the zone – Seyi Makinde and Ademola Adeleke – lobbied for Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, to host the national convention, and feelers indicate that Governor Makinde, who is considering a shot at the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket, got a concession for Oyo State to produce a candidate for the National Secretary position zoned to the South and micro-zoned to the South West.

Some members of the party’s National Executive Committee are said to be making efforts to prevail on the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who remains a staunch ally of Wike, to take the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) being zoned to the South/South East but he does not appear to be too keen.

If the move succeeds, party leaders would have the crucial support of both Wike and Anyanwu who may be quite strong for the PDP Governors’ Forum and other party structures at the national convention.

Ahead of the national convention, some state chapters of PDP conducted their wards congresses yesterday.

    These include Edo and Adamawa.

Reports said the congresses were peaceful.

Dogara, Nnamani, Etteh, others endorse Tinubu for second term

    • Hail President’s economic reforms, ‘purposeful leadership’

    • Say new nation in the making

The Southern Summit of Former Legislators, comprising the likes of ex-Senate President Ken Nnamani and ex-House of Representatives Speaker Patricia Etteh, yesterday adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 election.

The former legislators, who were joined at a summit in Abeokuta by another ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said their decision was informed by the various reforms of President Tinubu, which have, in the last two years, re-engineered the economy, strengthened the currency and set the nation on the path of socio-economic recovery.

They stressed the need for state governments to key into the reforms and support the President in his efforts to birth a new nation.

The former lawmakers, in a communiqué issued at the end of the summit, said the south deserved to complete its eight-year tenure in the leadership of the country.

They particularly hailed the “innovative reforms of government, which include, among others, the establishment of regional development commissions, local government autonomy, student loans scheme and deregulation of the electricity sector, and called for greater collaboration of state governments, and support of citizens alike to be able to harvest the great potentials of these reforms.”

They former lawmakers added: “That as a body, we will always align ourselves to those things that will promote the unity, peace and prosperity of our dear country, Nigeria.

“We commend the patriotic courage of our colleagues of the Northern Caucus in calling for the South to complete their tenure of the leadership of the country.

“We affirm that it is the turn of the South to complete its tenure.

“We posit that it is in the best interest of the South and the nation that the incumbent, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, completes the tenure of the South.

“Accordingly, we adopt him as the sole candidate of the South.

“We call on the South to support the North in 2031 to take up their tenure for the leadership of our dear country.

“We call on all Nigerians to pursue this course to promote national unity and firm the foundation of nation building.”

The communique was signed by Hon. Adeyemi Oluwole; Chairman, Southern Caucus and Hon. Israel Sunny Goli, Secretary South.

At the summit’s formal opening, the Chief of Staff to the President and convener of the summit, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, noted that with the signing into law of the tax reforms, President Tinubu has ushered in a new era of economic justice built on fairness, accountability, and national purpose.

The Chief of Staff, while quoting the World Bank Development Update, said Nigeria’s economy expanded by 4.6 per cent in the final quarter of 2024, pushing annual growth to 3.4 per cent; the fastest pace in a decade.

He further added that the country’s fiscal deficit narrowed from 5.4 per cent of gross domestic product in 2023 to 3 per cent in 2024, driving the federation revenues from N16.8 trillion in 2023 to an estimated N31.9 trillion in 2024.

The former House of Representatives Speaker noted the importance of unity in diversity, adding that without national unity, there could be no national development and that a nation without peace cannot experience progress.

His words:”The country can draw strength and inspiration from culture, music, arts and traditions.

“Nation building is a joint task that goes beyond building roads, bridges, schools and hospitals; it is about forging a sense of common identity and purpose among the citizens.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ensured purposeful leadership through the establishment of development commissions across the six geo-political regions of the country.

“The development commissions will no doubt help channel more federal resources to develop and implement infrastructure and human capital development across the country.

“Nation building is not only the work of the government but also for citizens, both at home and in the diaspora, who have a stake in the Nigerian project to join hands with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to build a nation every citizen will be proud of.”

Also speaking, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun noted that nation building is not the sole responsibility of one region, one party or one institution, but a shared duty that transcends tribal, religious, political and economic divides.

Abiodun added that unity does not mean uniformity, but a celebration of diversity under the framework of justice, equity and respect.

While acknowledging the former legislators as embodiments and essence of representative democracy, Governor Abiodun said that apart from performing legislative duties, they also perform oversight functions and representation through which the voice of the people at the grassroots is brought to the government at the centre.

“You must be committed to a united, secure, and economically vibrant region. You must continue to support policies and programmes that promote inclusive governance, human capital development and inter-regional cooperation,” he said.

Chairman of the occasion, Sen. Ken Nnamani, in his opening remarks, stressed the need for former legislators to come together to deliberate on the challenges confronting the nation and proffer workable solutions to the government.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, who would be remembered for campaigning against Tinubu in 2023 over same faith ticket and even left the APC in protest, urged Nigerians not to allow pretenders in the political space to cause them to lose faith in the Tinubu administration.

He said the agitations of the so-called pretenders do not hinge on patriotism, but more about vengeance and power.

While affirming that the structure of the pretenders was built on mendacity, fury and spectacle, Dogara noted that the country has begun to experience economic recovery.

Speaking in the same vein, former Speaker, House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh, called for cohesion, dialogue and shared purpose to navigate the journey of sustainable development, adding that unity remains an ingredient for peace and democratic progress.

The National Coordinator of the Summit, Hon. Raphael Igbokwe, assured that the meeting would serve as a platform for finding solutions to the nation’s problems, urging the sub-nations to collaborate with the federal government in moving the nation forward.

Others who have already endorsed Tinubu for a second term in office include APC governors and leaders across the six geo-political zones.

Flood displaces 470 children, wrecks 270 homes in Zaria

A torrential downpour on Thursday and Friday unleashed devastating floods in Zaria, Kaduna State, displacing more than 470 children and destroying over 270 households across several communities.

A coordinated assessment team, which included the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and local government officials, confirmed the scale of destruction during a visit to affected areas.

Led by Zaria Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, the team toured Kofar Kuyanbana and other hard-hit communities, including Gangaren Mobil and Bayan Cinema in Tudun Wada Ward, as well as Magume, Bako Zuntu, and Kamacha in Tukur Tukur Ward.

The floods, triggered by heavy early-morning rainfall, swept away foodstuffs, clothing, electronics, and other essentials, leaving hundreds of families stranded and in dire need of assistance.

Despite the widespread devastation, officials confirmed that no lives were lost, describing the outcome as an act of divine mercy considering the scale of the disaster.

In the aftermath, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Zaria Division, has begun distributing relief materials to displaced families while stressing the urgent need for more support.

The humanitarian body appealed to government agencies, philanthropists, and non-governmental organizations to intervene swiftly, warning that victims are facing worsening hardship without immediate assistance.

Authorities assured that further assessments will continue, with plans underway to mobilize more relief to cushion the impact on displaced families.

Refineries scandal: EFCC scales up probe, orders Kyari to report daily

    • Ex-NNPCL boss, others to face trial soon
    • Anti-graft agency secures court order to detain Sujimoto CEO

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has directed the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, to report at its Abuja headquarters daily as the commission prepares to arraign him in court soon.

Also expected to be charged by the commission are some former NNPC top shots and contractors, The Nation gathered yesterday.

Kyari and other suspects first faced EFCC investigators on Wednesday in connection with the more than $2.5 billion allegedly spent on the rehabilitation of the nation’s four refineries.

The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Sijibomi Ogundele, who is also being investigated by the commission, is to remain in its custody pending the conclusion of the  probe of how he allegedly obtained over N5 billion from the Enugu State Government in respect of a contract he failed to deliver.

The commission has obtained a remand order to that effect from a magistrate court.

The commission has already placed restrictions on some of Kyari’s accounts.

Sources said yesterday that the volume of documents being examined by detectives in the course of the investigation is much, hence the need for the former NNPC boss to show up every day to throw light on grey areas.

The sources could not confirm when Kyari’s daily presence would no longer be required by the EFCC. They, however, said all the suspects might be charged to court soon.

“The commission has granted Kyari bail with a clause that he should be reporting daily for interrogation and interaction as the case may be,” one of the sources said.

“We have isolated issues for him to respond to, documents to verify and contractors to confirm or deny their claims.

He said former MDs/GMs of the refineries had been interrogated as well as some ex-officials of NNPC and contractors.

Interrogating Kyari, he said, is the final lap of the investigation.

“He is to fill in some gaps which will help us to prefer charges based on verifiable evidence,” he said.

Responding to a question, the source said that barring last minute evidence or clarifications, the evidence gathered so far indicate that Kyari may face trial with some former top shots of NNPC.

“It is left to them to prove their innocence in court,” the source added.

About $18 billion was said to have been expended since 2010 while the refineries remain in poor conditions.

Among other things, Kyari is to account for the over $2.5 billion voted for turn-around maintenance (TAM) of the refineries during his tenure, including the disbursement of $1.55 billion to the Port Harcourt refinery, $740.6 million (Kaduna refinery) and $656.9 million (Warri refinery).

Kyari’s defence was unknown at press time, but he had earlier said he had nothing to hide.

Turn-around maintenance has been a major money pit of NNPC in the last three years in particular.

On the 24th of June 2022, the Federal Executive Council awarded a Maintenance Services contract for Quick Fix Repairs of Warri Refinery to Daewoo Engineering and Construction Limited at $497,328,500.00.

The deal was different from the 2017 contract given to Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited for Tech Plant Survey of the Warri and Kaduna refineries at 2,025,000.32 Euros.

The Kaduna refinery and Petro-Chemical Company (KRPC) have gulped N2.266 billion for rehabilitation in the last 10 years.

The NNPCL approved a deal with Daewoo Engineering and Construction Limited to renovate the Kaduna refinery in February 2023 with a view to restoring the refinery to production of 110,000 barrels of petrol per day and at least 60 per cent capacity by early 2024.

No immediate reprieve for Sujimoto boss

In the case of Ogundele, the EFCC is asking him to explain how he spent the N5.7 billion he allegedly collected from the Enugu State Government in respect of a contract he failed to execute.

In the alternative, he is asked to refund the money.

There were indications yesterday that the EFCC might seek a court order to seize the funds in his personal and company’s accounts.

From next week, he will interface with top officials of Enugu State Government on the award of contract for 22 Smart Green Schools by the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

An EFCC source said a remand order had been secured from a magistrate court to detain him until the anti-graft agency was able to complete investigation.

Ogundele’s case, he said, is that of N5.7 billion fraud leveled against him by the Enugu State Government.

He said there is proven evidence of the said sum paid to Ogundele, adding that EFCC was in possession of the terms of the contract and the documents showing his failure to comply with the contractual obligation.

Both the personal accounts of Ogundele and that of Sujimoto, he said, had been frozen.

“He is yet to make any concession. He is expected to explain how he spent the N5.7 billion or refund the money,” he said.

The source said Ogundele’s accounts were frozen in case they get to a stage where they would approach the courts for forfeiture of the funds therein.

He said as from next week, the building contractor will interface with top officials of Enugu State Government on the award of the 22 Smart Green Schools to Sujimoto.

“His case looks straightforward,” he added.

The EFCC had declared Ogundele wanted penultimate Friday for alleged money laundering.

Ogundele immediately went on X to blame the Enugu State Government for the EFCC action.

Enugu State responded moments later, alleging that the suspect disappeared after collecting N5.7 billion as 50 per cent mobilization fee for the construction of 22 Smart Green Schools across the state.

Information and Communication Commissioner Malachy Agbo said in a statement that Ogundele was awarded a contract worth N11.4 billion on July 2, 2024, with a six-month completion timeline.

The suspect allegedly resorted to doing a shoddy work, employed quack engineers and eventually abandoned all sites without meeting any structural specifications.

He said in part: “For the avoidance of doubt, on July 2, 2024, the Enugu State Government awarded a contract in the sum of N11,457,930,950.52 to Sujimoto Luxury Construction Ltd for the construction of 22 Smart Schools (buildings only) in six months starting from the date of the acceptance of the award.

“The Enugu State Government paid the sum of N5,762,565,475.25, representing 50 per cent of the contract sum, in order to fast-track the projects at all the sites.

“Rather than play to the rules of the contract to deliver quality projects for furnishing and equipping ahead of September 2025 school resumption, in line with the priority placed on the Smart Green Schools initiative by the government, Mr. Ogundele resorted to shoddy jobs and the use of inexperienced workers and quack engineers.

“None of his sites met the structural integrity of the projects as specified in the structural drawing.

“Worse still, he vanished into thin air with the money. All efforts made by the government to get him to a roundtable to discuss the quality and progress of work proved abortive.

“He equally refused to attend the periodic projects briefing organised by the state government for all contractors or take numerous calls and messages put across to him.

“In fact, he practically abandoned the sites, leaving the Enugu State Government with no other choice but to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to recover the funds paid to him.

“A joint team of officers of the Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the EFCC visited the 22 sites to evaluate the progress of work on May 8 and 9, 2025, where it was clearly established that there had been minimal to no significant work done at the said sites one year after the contract award.

“In some cases, he fraudulently did not do excavation for all the blocks in site.

“It is also on record that he has not shown up at the sites or made himself available to either the state government or the law enforcement agencies even after those site visits.

“It is also pertinent to state that it was discovered in the course of investigation that whereas he presented a bond from Jaiz Bank, he used Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited’s Zenith Bank account number 1312731196 to receive the said payment and draw down the fund without deploying it to the projects.

“This clearly shows a premeditated intent to defraud the state ab initio.

“The government has since retaken and handed over the sites to new firms, which have no choice but to start the construction afresh.

“Tremendous progress has been made to keep the determination of the Mbah Administration to migrate Enugu children to Smart Green Schools by September on track.

“It is equally noteworthy that there were other firms awarded multiple number of Smart Green School projects and they are delivering quality jobs on target.

“Nigerians should therefore disregard his theatrics and crocodile tears, as Enugu State Government is determined to and will surely recover every penny of Ndi Enugu fraudulently obtained by Mr. Olasijibomi Ogundele (Sujimoto).”

The Enugu State Government’s statement was accompanied with pictures of the project sites as abandoned by Sujimoto, which were taken by the joint team of officials of the state and operatives of the EFCC during the May 8 and 9 site visits.

The pictures clearly showed that the project sites were mostly at the levels of foundation and DPC, with a few at the stage of block work.”

Contacted, the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC,  Mr. Dele Oyewale, said “the investigation of the two cases was still ongoing”

    He declined further comments.

  • Dangote, NUPENG, streamline deal at fresh meeting with DSS

Dangote, NUPENG, streamline deal at fresh meeting with DSS

    • Suspension of industrial action sustained

Officials of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) yesterday met afresh with a delegation from the Dangote Refineries to resolve the issues that led to the collapse of the deal reached at their first talks.

Like the Tuesday meeting, yesterday’s was at the instance of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The feuding sides agreed to maintain the status quo pending a two-week window, sources said yesterday.

In attendance at the meeting were the Finance Minister Wale Edun, and representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

During the first meeting, NUPENG had called off the strike it called in protest against alleged refusal of Dangote to allow its drivers participate in labour union activities.

But the Tuesday truce soon took a twist after NUPENG accused Dangote’s management of violating the pact.

NUPENG President Prince Williams Akporeha and the General Secretary Afolabi Olawale described a September 11, 2025 statement by Dangote Petroleum Refinery as a misrepresentation of facts about its relationship with workers and their freedom to join NUPENG.

The union said: “The MoU signed on September 9, 2025 stemmed from the company’s earlier resistance to unionisation — a fact the agreement itself confirms.

“Yet, on September 11, Dangote Refinery ordered the removal of NUPENG stickers from all trucks, replacing them with those of the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association (DTCDA), a body allegedly created by the management.

“Our members have firmly resisted this directive.

“Individuals who have repeatedly lost elections in the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch since 2023 have now become spokespersons for the DTCDA.

“Some of them have been granting interviews to local and international media in support of the company.

“Nigerians should also be aware that some of these individuals are facing criminal charges (Charge No. CR/042/23) at the FCT High Court for violent crimes including an attempt to assassinate elected leaders of the PTD Branch and NUPENG.

“During one of their attacks, NUPENG’s General Secretary was beaten into coma and was only revived in the hospital.

“Nigerians must not be deceived by the company’s offer of free nationwide fuel delivery. This move is aimed at discouraging other employers from hiring tanker drivers so that only Dangote-employed drivers — compelled to join the DTCDA — will remain in the workforce.

“The strategy is clearly to crush NUPENG and its PTD Branch.

“It is also important to note that apart from tanker drivers, the refinery’s operational and administrative staff have been obstructed from exercising their right to unionise.

“It is on record that Dangote Group does not permit unionisation in its cement and sugar plants across Nigeria.

“Nigerians should not support an arrangement that denies drivers and other workers in the Dangote Group their right to freedom of association.”

Read Also: FG revokes license of Oritsemeyin rig

Dangote had denied allegations by NUPENG that it banned tanker drivers from joining the union.

It dismissed claims that it was involved in anti-labour practices, monopolistic behaviour, and planned fuel price hikes.

It said: “The current industrial matter is an internal dispute with NUPENG, specifically involving its Petrol Tanker Drivers (PTD) unit.

“It is therefore misplaced to attribute responsibility to Dangote Petroleum Refinery from the personal choices made by drivers regarding union affiliation.

“All recruitment and contractual processes across our operations, including those under the compressed Natural Gas (CNG) intiative, are voluntary, transparent and complaint with applicable Nigerian laws and International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards.

“Allegations of union suppression are entirely unfounded and appear to be part of a broader narrative aimed at discrediting private sector progress.

“Our organisation remains committed to labour rights, employee welfare, and the highest standards of workplace safety.”

The Nation gathered that yesterday’s meeting was to streamline the agreements reached on Tuesday.

“Yes, the meeting took place this evening between 3 and 5. The decision to suspend the strike was sustained,” a source said.

“The first meeting held about two days ago.

“There was need to work on the agreement entered in the first meeting, so that’s why the meeting was held.

“As far as I can tell, they just fell back to the resolutions of September 9.”

  • I have fulfilled presidential mandate, says Ibas

I have fulfilled presidential mandate, says Ibas

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has declared that the mandate handed to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been “sufficiently achieved,” following the successful restoration of democratic governance at the grassroots level.

Ibas in a statement signed by the Senior Special Adviser, Media, Rivers State Government, Hector Igbikiowubo, made the declaration at Government House Port Harcourt.

He spoke while receiving a report of the recently concluded local government elections from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Ibas said that the peaceful conduct of the poll and the subsequent swearing-in of democratically elected chairmen and councillors across all 23 local government areas marked the direct fulfillment of the presidential directive issued to him on March 18, 2025.

He said: “Mr. President’s mandate to me was clear: to stabilise the state, create an enabling environment for the re-establishment of its institutions, and return Rivers State back to full democratic governance.

“With the successful conduct and swearing-in of local government chairmen and their councils, I believe we have decisively achieved the mandate that we were given.”

He commended RSIEC for organising what he described as a fair, credible, and transparent electoral process, which has been widely praised within and beyond the state.

He said: “For once, an election was conducted where nobody was harassed, where people went out freely to express themselves and to select whom they wanted as their leaders. This is a testament to the peaceful and enabling environment we have collectively fostered”.

The administrator assured that his administration would meticulously review the RSIEC report and issue an official government white paper in due course.

He extended his appreciation to his team, security agencies, and state officials for their collaborative effort and synergy, noting that “this is what it takes to build nations.”

Earlier, while presenting the detailed report, the Chairman of RSIEC, Dr. Mike Odey, described the election as a “historic achievement” for the state and the country.

He revealed that the document provided a full account of the entire process, from the initial notice of election to stakeholder engagements, polling, collation of results, and the final announcement of winners.

“The report highlights our modest achievements, our challenges, and provides key recommendations that will strengthen future elections in Rivers State,” Dr. Odey said

He emphasised that the Commission operated strictly in accordance with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law of 2018, as amended, and credited the election’s success to robust collaboration with political parties, civil society organizations, and security agencies.

Odey also expressed the commission’s gratitude to the administrator for providing “adequate and sufficient” funding, which enabled an unprecedented feat in Nigerian electoral management.

“In the history of election management in Nigeria, be it national or sub-national, no institution has ever organized, coordinated, conducted, and supervised a complete electoral process within a period of 30 days. With all modesty, I have no regrets in stating this fact for the record,” he said.

NUPENG, Dangote in second DSS-brokered meeting, suspension of industrial action sustained

Officials of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday again met with officials of Dangote refineries in meeting brokered again by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.

The parties had met with other relevant stakeholders on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 and the engagement had culminated in calling off the industrial action embarked on by NUPENG.

A source disclosed to The Nation on Friday that the second meeting was to streamline the agreements reached in the first meeting.

“Yes, the meeting held this evening between 3 and 5. The decision to suspend the strike was sustained. The first meeting held about two days ago. There was need to work on the agreement entered in the first meeting, so that’s why the meeting was held. As far as I can tell, they just fell back to the resolutions of September 9,” the source said.

After hours of deliberation on the September 9 meeting, both parties resolved to uphold existing labour laws, with emphasis that employees must not be compelled to join any union, and should retain the freedom to either affiliate with or decline membership of any labour body.

Other outstanding issues of contention were also resolved, culminating in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by all stakeholders.

The agreement led to the immediate suspension of NUPENG’s strike action, which had threatened to disrupt petroleum supply and distribution across the country.
